  1. Glad to see Moncada get the hero treatment after his first walkoff hit.
  2. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 04:14 AM) If the sox lose this one, it's what we call a good loss. We? Go Sox!
  3. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 03:09 PM) Hope everyone that didn't vote Hillary is happy now, because we now have good ole calm, cool, collected Donald to deal with this mess. If NK were to do this (which I doubt), I don't see how Trump doesn't respond with force. Not a great post. The Democrats could have given us a good candidate to vote for. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) That's the exact problem. The lack of impulse control was my greatest fear with him to begin. If NK strikes within distance of Guam action would be needed, but such action must be planned out and throughly vetted by a broader team. I just don't see Trump waiting to respond after such an event, in his mind it would make him look like a p****. And impulsive action would likely lead to much greater consequences for the entire world. Look, if they strike Guam it's all over. That's a direct attack on our bases and our people. If Jong Un is dumb enough to attack Guam there's nothing we can do but execute thermonuclear war. And yes the world will never be the same.
  4. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 04:50 AM) Why would Caulfield want to come back to the US if we're just going to get blown off the map? I forgot about that. He's pretty safe if he's in China. Now if he were in Japan, maybe not so much. Although if China and Russia decide to nuke us in response to us annihilating N. Korea they might take prisoner Americans living in China. I won't start a new thread, but I'd love to hear if people have any plans as what they'd do if they hear some morning that nukes are on the way about to hit Chicago. For some reason Chicago usually gets mentioned.
  5. Caulfield are u thinking of getting out of there soon and returning to mainland? Do the Chinese people hate us as much as North Koreans do? p.s.: Not meant for you caulfield, but Thanks, Democrats for giving us such a bad presidential candidate that we have Trump in charge during possibly the most dangerous time in the history of the world, likely the most dangerous time in the history of the world. We could use a Biden in office right now for sure!!!
  6. It might be time for anybody who wants to continue living to get out of Guam. Korea says it will attack soon. Well, the war to end all wars is indeed coming. N. Korea deserves what it's about to get. Now, will China and Russia nuke the USA in response to what we do to Korea? Maybe. Wouldn't it be smart for those 2 to combine forces and blow us off the map after we blow the Koreas off the map? I would think a combined Russia/China team could indeed end civilized life in the USA as we know it. Nobody knows how China and Korea are going to react to us dropping nukes on N. Korea. Think about it, though. N. Korea just today said they will bomb our bases in Guam. How can we not react? We can't just sit back and let thousands of Americans in Guam die. Korea says they are going to do it. I'm almost positive Trump will act on this and baby, the last war is about to begin. Who would have thought during the petty election cycle that true crisis that threatens the future of the world was about to hit? http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/09/politics/nor...rike/index.html
  7. Tim Anderson had a great game. Has he come of age? Miguel G. is horrific most nights but does have a few outings like this. I'd say he could be a 5 starter on the team next year.
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) So yeah, I honestly do hope that the people in the DPRK's chain of command for launching nuclear weapons have more power than the people in the US's chain of command. That doesn't mean I think they do, just that I hope they do. e: for reference: https://www.washingtonpost.com/posteverythi...hats-by-design/ There is no chain of command. He tells somebody to fire the nuke at Guam and they fire a nuke at Guam. He tells them to fire a nuke at mainland USA, they fire a nuke at USA. If they don't, bullet to the head.
  9. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) Good players do not have an on base % of .278 given the amount of playing time he has received. Davidson is what he is, a replacement level player. I hope you judge all our players as quickly as you judged Davidson and deemed him incapable of improving on some good performances his rookie season. Like I said on to the next guy. I don't know why we'd waste any more time on Davidson if we know he's a replacement level player. Put somebody else in there to hold the fort for Burger. Will you judge Burger in the same amount of at bats?
  10. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) I don't know why you keep referencing "advanced stats", all of his stats are bad, even the very basic ones with the exception of homeruns, it's literally the only thing he does well and there are 37 players in Major League Baseball with as many HR's as him and 56 with at least 20 and 55 players with at least 300 PA's and a SLG% greater than or equal to Davidson's. You guys win. I thought his rookie season showed promise, but I'm obviously wrong. So on to the next guy. Put Delmonico there.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) Because he's shown no real signs of progress. He is who he is, a dude who hits some dingers but also strikes out too much and doesn't walk nearly enough to be a full time player. He is a bench player or a AAAA player on a good team. Remember Josh Fields. I give up. You guys are looking for a certain type of ballplayer and Davidson doesn't fit the bill. I wish we'd just release him now so I don't have to hear what a non prospect he is. Fields hit 23 home runs in 2007, then 10 homers the rest of his career. So that is a perfect comparison if Davidson is done producing at age 26.
  12. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 07:09 PM) .278 on base % is NOT good for any mlb player, regardless of home runs. My point is he's young enough that he just, uh, might improve? We're assuming TA might improve. My point is anybody who can hit 30 home runs in his first season and is still young(ish) has a chance. And I'd currently rather support that guy than dream about prospects. His defense I realize is regarded as s***, but I don't think he's been embarrassingly bad yet at 3B. Correct me if I'm wrong. Nobody's been able to explain to me why his performance hasn't dictated any excitement at all. He's a bum and that's that. I guess 26 is considered too old to get anybody excited nowadays. That's the bottom line. Answer this though: Why is it that Davidson's advanced stats have doomed him to being a boring non prospect when he showed promise in terms of hitting mammoth home runs (actually winning one game with a single up the middle)? At what point do you guys decide the advanced stats cannot be improved upon and a guy has no chance of improving? Is it simply his age? 26 is blah now. The cliche says he's too old to build a solid career.
  13. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) This report and video from 2014 provides a good insight into just how highly he was regarded, back then: http://m.mlb.com/news/article/80378086/sea...shot-at-majors/ Let's just hope that most of our current top prospects don't suffer a similar fate. That's why I don't care about prospects and why I get excited when a guy like Davidson actually shows promise on a big league diamond. I'm totally outnumbered though, as prospects and the mystery of the future are sexy. And even though a guy like Davidson had some incredible moments this season and was headed for 30 home runs before he got hurt, he's considered a bum because his advanced stats suck. No mention of the fact he might improve and be able to build on a 30 home run season. I truly hope you rebuild people are correct and our organization dominates the AL for years to come.
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:34 PM) My solution is to open diplomatic relations with another country. Work out a peace agreement. This idea that American has had an "anti-war policy" towards NK is totally wrong. Like I said, the only hope is to actually let China and Russia solve this issue and there's no reason to believe they care. They'll just wait and see what happens and respond in whatever is in their best interests to take over the world. Scary. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) Dude, North Korea isn't just another country. It's run a pyscopathic dictator. This idea of negotiated peace is absurd. They want to become a serious nuclear power and will do so until they have the nuclear capabilities to hit mainland US. No amount of aid or sanctions will change that. Exactly and this dictator may want to go out in a blaze of glory. Why wouldn't he? If things start getting toasty for him ever, instead of shooting himself in the head he blows up Guam, blows up South Korea and blows up the US Mainland. We either need China's help in this escalating situation fast or somehow develop a defense system in which we can blow the nukes out of the sky. We're f***ed. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:51 PM) So your answer is to be held hostage by a madman forever? And put the mainland US at risk? Is that really what you're saying? I don't think you're taking this threat seriously. The day Kim feels his days are numbered, whether driven by us, or China, or another vested party, who is to say he doesn't launch some nukes at the US assuming he has the capability? This guy is not a rationale human being living in a rationale world. He kills on the regular to retain his grip on power and he just may want to go out in a blaze of glory assuming he knows that power will soon be lost. Under no circumstance should we allow him to further develop his nuclear capabilities. This is a real fear of mine. But there is no way the USA can solve this problem. Jong Un hates America and you can bet his ultimate goal is to hit us with nukes. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 04:05 PM) I haven't read the ENTIRE thread so I don't know if the answer is in there somewhere but here's my question... Does anyone know what North Korea ultimately WANTS? Do they want to rule the world? Cuz that ain't happening. Do they want to be accepted as a major power? Cuz that ain't happening either. Or do they just want the entire Korean peninsula? Cuz that ain't happening either. Good questions. I think they simply want to be on the same plane as countries with nukes. The ability to hit the USA with nukes. The problem is with a madman like Jong Un, at any point he can say, 'f*** it; I'm launching some nukes at America' just for the hell of it.
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) Hopefully cooler heads can prevail and loss of life can be prevented More than loss of life, but the end of life as we know it. Once nukes start falling you are talking millions upon millions of people dying and many countries/locales unable to sustain life any more because of nuclear fallout. Again, the question is, does Russia or China care. If they do not care about this new world about to be thrust upon us, it truly could be the end of the world as we know it. Trump and Jong Un have the power to get it started.
  16. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) I don't have any more problem with NK having a nuclear bomb than any other country. Nobody else is threatening to use them. NK is telling us to our face they will bomb Guam, they will bomb us. Hawaii is getting prepared for a nuke being thrown at them in which they'll have 20 minutes to respond. This is a whole new ballgame. The tone of the NY Times article pissed me off today. It said Trump's comments led to NK issuing a threat toward Guam. Trump sucks we all know that, but if some media are going to imply N. Korea is reasonable at all in this area, this is almost treasonous. It's also scary to think NK not only will lob nukes at us, Hawaii and Guam but you can bet sell the nukes to somebody who will immediately use them on us.
  17. That's our rare winning formula say once out of every 7 games. I fully expect us to lose 6 of 7 the rest of the season. The formula is to once every seven games hit the s*** out of the ball and survive like tonight, 8-5. Only hope for regular wins is Rodon or Friday's starter dominating a game. Right now here's how I'd rate our team. Starting pitching: D-minus. Bullpen: F. Lineup: D to D-minus. Defense: D to D-minus. Baserunning: F. Managing: D to D-minus.
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 06:23 AM) Nuclear fallout is 100x more likely to impact China, Eastern Russia and Japan than the USA. Then I wish during a summit they'd explain that and get China on board. And Russia on board. Though Russia hates us even more now and China doesn't give a flip about the USA. I wonder what the odds are that within 3 years at least 2 countries are completely destroyed by human beings and inhabitable. My guess is N and S Korea will be wiped off the map and we can only hope the USA is unscathed. But if there's any fallout affecting Russia or China they'd most assuredly send nukes our way as well. Not a pretty picture.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:04 AM) This will keep up until finally the inevitable happens. Whether it is this year, next year, 10 years or longer it is going to happen soon enough. In my opinion, the tipping point is long since gone. They have the nukes. It is already way too late. But what we really need now is the partisan blame in place so we all have our political marching orders, because THAT is all that matters here. This is very very astute and very scary. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 03:20 AM) 3. Negotiate. In good faith this time. Make a deal where they give up some things, perhaps a portion of their missile technology, in exchange for aid. Then actually keep up that deal. I don't think they want to negotiate anything involving their nukes. Jong Un doesn't care about sanctions as long as he is comfy. These crazy leaders only want personal gratification. He doesn't care about his people. That's why it's in China and Russia's hands. And they seem to be enjoying the fracas, figuring the USA is a sitting duck for nukes.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 03:32 AM) So. What's your solution. Guys, you consider greg a moron but please tell me I'm wrong here. You can't. The solution... The only solution (and it won't happen). TRUMP: Pleads with Russia and China to have an emergency summit in which we will tell them our plans of blowing N. Korea off the map unless this can be resolved. On the final day of the summit, invite Kim Jong Un to attend. I would think he'd come and not think we simply were using it as an excuse to assassinate him. At the Summit, get China and Russia to negotiate a solution. It's up to them this time. Do they care or do they secretly want USA and N. Korea to take part in thermonuclear war in which they hope nuclear fallout does not affect their countries at all, just the USA and the Koreas. Without the help of China and Russia, N. Korea is going to escalate and fire some nukes our way and at that point, it's all over.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:34 AM) All of their rhetoric, their positions, their desire to not be dead. The regular citizens have no say and I think Kim Jong Un knows he's not going to be living a long life so might as well go out with a bang and kill millions of Americans and South Koreans. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 01:38 AM) But the one guy calling the shots is a bit unpredictable. He may think nuking the US is a pretty big trophy he wouldn't mind taking with him on his way to meet his maker. Exactly. And I firmly believe one morning we're gonna wake up to reports several nukes are on the way to the USA. It's going to be mass panic and I think could be the end of the world as we know it. If those nukes hit US soil, WTF are we gonna do? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 02:04 AM) Now they have an estimated 60 warheads and are quickly working towards the easiest parts which is delivering them to where they need to go. They are flat out telling us what they plan to do with the missiles, and still we pretend it isn't real, and instead roll over for them as if they were a child throwing a temper tantrum. Even if they aren't the ones pushing the button to launch, they will be selling the missiles and technology to those who will, assuming they haven't done so already. Millions of people will die because of the situation the United States has actively allowed to happen. This is a great post. We are in deep deep s***, folks. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 03:23 AM) Somehow, cooler heads have to prevail from those three entities, along with the new South Korean government, that has been caught in the middle on THAAD since Ms. Park was impeached. You say "somehow." I pray there is a way. For the first time ever I see an end of the world scenario here. It's all set up too perfectly. A moron president of the USA in Trump; a psycho in Jong Un, and two powers, China and Russia, who have no interest in cleaning this up for some reason. To the pacifistic people ... what would China do if N. Korea was uttering this s*** to them about how they ARE GOING TO attack? What would Russia do? We are in trouble folks.
  22. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 07:47 PM) Trump gets a folder full of positive news about himself twice a day It’s known as the “propaganda document" s*** like this is why I'm much more concerned about Trump actually having unilateral control over thousands of nuclear warheads than NK potentially having a nuclear weapon at some point in the future. I'm a lot more worried about the North Korean leader. He is a powerderkeg just dying to flick some nukes at the USA and South Korea. All he has to do to be remembered forever is start the war that begins the end of humanity as we know it. He's nutty enough to do it. If he sends a nuke our way, we will literally blow that country off the map and that means S. Korea will be blown off the map too. At that point China and Russia decide what to do. If the North Korean nukes cause a lot of damage in the USA ... wow.
  23. How embarrasing for the Stros. We actually won. Good to see Anderson go 2-5; Delmonico get a hit and walk; Moncada get a hit and two walks; Avi goes 2-5 and is still just above .300 at .304. Smith continuing to look like a big leaguer at least with two hits 4 RBI and a homer. Engel with the defense. Horrible pitching as usual. These are the kind of games we'll win once every 5 or 6 games. Where our bats click and we outscore somebody. About the only way we can win unless Rodon is on or the new guy who'll pitch Friday.
  24. QUOTE (Sonik22 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 08:48 PM) This has gone from being a "yeah it'll never happen though" situation to "this is f***ing scary" rather quickly... I must pat myself on the back here since everybody thinks I am never spot on any issue. I've been worried about this a long time and expressed my worries on this board. This is the powerderkeg, folks. This is the issue that figures to start the end of the world as we know it. Only solution believe it or not, is China and Russia and they don't seem too concerned at all.
  25. This probably would be best in another thread, but it's scary how quickly things could change ... in a blink of an eye the world could change forever as we know it. This is not the best matchup either: the ultra aggressive, ruthless businessman, make quick forceful decisions Donald Trump against the aggressive, ruthless, morally corrupt Kim Jong Un. Cooler heads prevail here? Dunno bout that.
