Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:19 AM) From what we've read, all relievers have sketchy track records. You can't have it every which way. Robertson had a fantastic track record and he was worth s*** because he made some money. Kahnle had control, but his control was worthless because relievers are erratic and he will eventually turn into suck, no doubt, anyway. Swarzak has no money committed to him, has been dominant, has outstanding stuff, but is worth nothing because he has no control. These are all horses*** justifications for getting s*** value out of our relievers a week ahead of the deadline. I should probably send you this via pm instead of out here. But what you are saying is this board has a lot of people praising Hahn for EVERY single move he's made when quite frankly the verdict is still out on this rebuild as it is with anything dependent on PROSPECTS. You called them sheep, not me, but ... That said I want the prospects to win as you do since the Sox have gone this route. I feel like shack was fed up with the seemingly 100 percent love of everything Hahn is doing and like me couldn't take it any more thus erupted in this thread. Some of us want PROOF. And my grade of the rebuild hinges on results, baby. Not prospect lists. Though I am hopeful and love the Sox.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 04:00 AM) Bats are worth nothing, relief pitchers are worth nothing, and like 3 SP have been traded. The whole league has gone bats*** crazy about prospects. It a joke. Not me, brother. I am not a prospects guy. I'm also not a sabes guy. And I'm definitley not a Robin or Renteria guy. Or a Buddy Bell guy. Robin was a buffoon. Renteria's bunting drives me crazy and I DO NOT buy the fact he's having them learn how to do it in games that mean nothing. If he were an anti bunt guy he wouldn't be bunting so much.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 02:48 AM) We heard yesterday the likely value was a top 150ish guy or so... We basically got someone closer to top 350-400. But the whole goddamned board wants to keep rationalizing and justifying that guys with good stuff that have eras in the low 2's in a year where we're seeing the most home runs basically EVER are worth NOTHING. Bulls***. I like your style, brother. I didn't know I was a shack fan til tonight. I know I'm an El Rockin fan and a couple others. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:19 AM) Stop acting like there is some infinite number of baseball lineups the White Sox need to fill. They have one team. We have an actual mlb organization, you know. We have lots of guys that "can make the major leagues." Do you know that Anthony Swarzak was "in" the major leagues already? And dominating? But we'll keep trading good "actual" major league players for guys that can "make" the major leagues, with "ceilings" that are really high! I love guys who go against the grain. Preach on, shack. You da man IMO. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 26, 2017 -> 03:39 AM) I get bent out of shape because people are sheep. They go on record as saying they expect X return for a player, and then they justify Y * s*** return with a bunch of nonsensical justifications. I may certainly be wrong, but at least I have a mind of my own. Ditto me. I'm not a sheep either. For some reason (my gut feeling which has not won me a lotta money in Vegas) I do like the fact this latest fourth outfielder candidate has hit some home runs in the past few years and is supposed to be fast. I kind of like this type of prospct more than, a Tito Polo type, per se. Hopefully some of these outfielder guys will be good. The board should be a little scared that I'm intrigued by Cordell a bit. I'm usually wrong. Tito will probably be the star since I'm not high on him. This has nothing to do with you, shack. I love your speaking your heart in this thread! It ain't easy being the poster who has the contrary opinion to the masses! I do think we all agree at least with this comment: GO SOX!!

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 25, 2017 -> 08:00 PM) In the Sox current position, looking towards today is the wrong mentality. Be happy if they win, but be happy if they lose too. Losing can actually be a really good thing. You really see the mental capacity and the character of players during losing seasons like this. If guys can't get past it and can't improve, then they aren't good enough to be on the team moving forward. If they can look beyond the losing and continue to improve and play as well as they can, they're worthwhile in the long run. They are going to be bad for at least the next 8 months, and it is not unreasonable to think that they'll be bad in 2019 too. It will be OK. I'm not trying to argue, just thinking out loud. I wonder if incessant losing affects some young guys negatively, like perhaps TA or even a Moncada. Let's say you are a bulldog so to speak and really love competing and getting hits for the greater good of the ol team. The fact your at bats in theory in August and September mean nothing ... could that affect 'some' prospects negatively. In other words, s*** try to hit it out every time since really each at bat means nothing. Probably doesn't matter at all. Each hitter probably wants to get a hit just cause he wants to personally succeed, but when a team is this bad I know it'd be easy to just go take ones hacks rather than maybe work the count, etc., like u might do if the games meant something. Don't take this as a negative post. It's just a thought that occurred to me in reading your post. You were making a good point in that you can see what a player is made of during a losing season. I was just wondering if my scenario could occur as well. A hitter saying, "s*** i might get lucky and hit 3-4 homers tonight if i go up there hacking.' Rather than trying to do the little things like whack a single with a two strike count and nobody on base trying to get a rally going when down 8-0.

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell
This Cordell guy will be intriguing to watch if he can clear up the back issues. His stats include some power numbers and he's MLB ready at 25. Like somebody said bring him up when Melky gets traded and give him a month of at bats.

07/25 GT: Sox @ Cubs game 2, 1:20 PM
Poor Avi. Like you guys wrote, .303 now. This game of baseball is unforgiving. Now he appears to be lousy after being an all star earlier. 3 for his last 24 plate appearances. Only 17 hitters in the AL are hitting .300 or above. At 54 RBI, Avi's been in an RBI drought as well. He has 3 RBI in July. Only 3 BB all month. Hitting .239 for the month by far his worst month. I loved it when he was hitting .340. Wonder what's changed. Probably just the game of baseball. It is unforgiving. The marathon of the season ultimately gets almost everybody.

A Swarzak + Melky package to a contender
QUOTE (Tony @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 09:32 PM) Someone will give Melky Cabrera a multi-year contract worth 8 figures. Stop. He's that good? At his age?

07/24 GT: Cubs vs. Sox game 1, 1:20 PM
Great game. Sox certainly came to play ball. Shows what a good starting pitching performance can do and a good close job by Anthony. The stuff in between was great, but in this day and age u ain't winning squat without good starting pitching, good closer and good defense baby! Sox can go enjoy a nice steak dinner now or get drunk, whichever they choose! Nice to beat the Cub in their arena!

2017 Cubs Catch-all thread
What are Cub fans like this season? Do they just assume they will repeat? Now that they have a WS title are they like most fans and are yawning through the regular season assuming this is another eventual WS title team?

A Swarzak + Melky package to a contender
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 10:21 PM) Anybody else surprised by the general attitude towards Melky's trade value in the media? I'm not suggesting he has a ton of value and should net us a top 100 prospect, but I keep reading that he has pretty much 0 value. Mlbtraderumors had an article about tradeable Of'ers and suggested we'd have to pay all of Melky's contract just to be able to get rid of him. Am I missing something? He's top 14 in OPS among AL Of'ers (and that's including a slow 1st 100 ab's) and isn't THAT bad in the field. I definitely wouldnt call him good in the field, but he's not an absolute butcher in the field that hurts the team either. He's a flat out professional hitter that can give really good AB's to most contenders for the rest of the season in my opinion. Or am I wrong on this? And I'm usually more pesimistic about sox players than most. He's had a good year for him no doubt about it. He'd probably be good to sign on a minimum deal for next season since Sox are still in midst of rebuild. Nobody's going to sign him for real money. Give him MLB veteran minimum and let him patrol left one more year as Sox lose. I now love the Melkster ever since he continued playing after taking that ball in the face, but nobody else is gonna pay him either. What's the MLB minimum anyway? One year, $2 mill contract?

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 07:05 PM) Time to accept reality, Greg. Winning games at this point does no good. The White Sox are not making the 2017 playoffs. I love the thrill of victory, though, and watching the walk off celebrations and seeing guys like TA or Davidson win games via the walk off or stellar overall play. Also I don't like some of the opponents much such as the Royals, Twins, Cubs.

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 11:28 AM) I'd say he's worth his contract if he gets us from the #3/4 pick to the #1 pick. Why are these kind of troll posts acceptable when mine aren't? A post like this is worth nothing except to make me so mad that I want to respond. But I won't take the bait this time. We get it. You want us to lose every game. I want to win every game, so there's a difference of opinion. That's all. p.s. You didn't need Clippard's contract to lose. There are plenty of stiffs in the minors you could bring up to accomplish the same thing as Clippard BTW. Plenty of bodies who will lose you games on the cheap.

A Swarzak + Melky package to a contender
QUOTE (zisk @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 06:48 PM) Melky,Swarzak and Saladino for Jorge Soler. Royals need a bat a reliever and a shortstop. Alcides is really bad at the plate. If Soler does OK in left for the Sox he could help a bit. I'd hate to lose Tyler but his back probably will get worse with age. If you are trading those three to the Royals, get Bubba Starling and call it a day, not Soler. Royals would probably throw in Soler as they desperately want to get rid of him, if you must have Soler for some reason. Saladino is a way better hitter than Soler and Saladino is no good.

Four Game Series with Cubs
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 11:52 PM) I want the Sox to get the highest pick possible next year, but for the next four days, I hope the White Sox win each and every game with four quality starts and Yoan Moncada raking doubles and homers. Bless you flavum! QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 12:08 AM) A four game win streak would be really nice right about now. Bless u Black Sox! QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 01:59 AM) Followed by a 12 game losing streak to balance it out. Well, I disagree with that part but you want us to win these games so bless u Dam! QUOTE (InTheDriversSeat @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 02:45 AM) If the White Sox and Cubs split the series, White Sox get to keep the Crosstown Cup because a tie goes to the winner of the previous year. That's all I care about: keeping the Crosstown Cup! Awesome, Drivers Seat! You rock! QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 03:51 AM) The Cubs need to lose 3 of their next 4. Love it, son of a roach! You da man! Go Sox!

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 09:19 PM) Infante just turned into scrambled eggs. Two runners on and no outs. Here comes Tyler Clippard. Strangely I do not feel good about our chances We should start threads for just the two of us and anybody else who wants to win games now. Seriously. Think how cool it'd be. We could discuss the current team's chances of winning games; and the others wouldn't have to see our posts about wanting to win games. I love El Rockin!! The best fan in the history of the White Sox, or one of 'em!

Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
QUOTE (Superstar Lamar @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 06:10 PM) I wouldn't be surprised if the Sox were able to move him for something, even salary relief over the next few weeks. The eye test the last 2 games in Kansas City suggest otherwise. My gosh he's a bad pitcher.

How do you rate the rebuild so far?
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 05:44 AM) Glad to see the "new" Greg lasted a whole week. Once a troll, always a troll... For the life of me I can't understand why some people can't accept a difference of opinion. I've praised the s*** out of the prospects we got and the direction of the team. I will never acquiesce and say I think the draft is so imporant there's a big difference between the 2nd and 10th pick. Nobody even tries to understand my points. Just because I don't agree with you or the masses shouldn't make me evil, but it does. As u know I'm not a big rebuild guy, yet I can name our optimal hopefully WS lineup LF - Eloy. CF - Robert. RF - Rutherford. DH - Avi. C - Collins 3B - Burger/Davidson. SS - TA. 2B - Moncada. 1B - Abreu. Backup OF the sparkplug guy we got from the Yankees, Tito Polo. I believe there's the guy we got from the Red Sox as well, Basabe. P-Rodon, Fulmer, Cease, Kopech, the plethora of guys we got from Nats. I'm excited. What more do you want from me? I can't agree with every single point people make. I need some results, too. Just because I chose to answer this question the way I did makes me evil. I don't understand why praising the prospects yet needing to see the improvement makes me evil. Nobody seems to agree this losing bulls*** has to be considered as a bad part of the process. Will this current bad part of the process be forgotten at some point? Sure, if everything works out. Why do I have to do handstands right now? Why does questioning it a bit make me a bad fan or troll? There are some fans who can't take losing at all (me). But it's almost like my hatred of losing is not considered logical or at all acceptable. Why is that? Not all people are the same. Some people DESPISE losing. That's me. Losing to the Royals makes me explode. Will that angst be worth it if we rattle off three WS titles because of this? Of course. I wish you would try to consider my points rather than assume because they are polar opposite of yours I must be a troll. I'm trying to be a better poster but I despise the Royals so much. Please mods close this thread. It is the only one that reverts me back to insanity!

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 05:20 AM) I feel bad for our pitching staff. They can't get the job done and you can tell they want so badly to win I love you as a fan but don't understand this post. How can u tell they want to win badly? That lefty just got torched on the homers and Pelfrey threw a good game but didn't exactly find a rhythm late. Working so slow he let the storms roll in.

How do you rate the rebuild so far?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 07:21 PM) If "half" the prospects make it, the Sox are going to be the best team in the majors in 2020 and 2021. Good. Bring it on. I want wins.

How do you rate the rebuild so far?
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 01:12 PM) Moncada is pretty much must-see TV though right? Lopez coming up will be cool as s*** too. To me it's a different kind of fun with the Sox right now. Yeah I'll agree with that. I wouldn't call it 'fun' though to see those hacks serve up three gopher balls in a row to the Royals tonight after seeing Pelfrey slow the game down to a crawl seemingly afraid to deliver a pitch in his final inning of work. Albeit he did put up zeros so kudos for that, but ... QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 06:41 PM) Actually I agreed with Greg to an extent. Trading our guys for the best possible return is one thing ,like the first step in a rebuild. and for that first step,we all seem pretty pleased. But the coming steps are all just as important if not more so. The talent acquired has to pan out and to high degree for the plan to progress to the next stage which is supplementing it with any missing pieces. Then comes sustaining success for as long as you can. Yes sir. I can buy that post. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 07:15 PM) All this really says is you don't understand the concept of a rebuild. The only way to completely judge this rebuild is after the majority of the 15+ guys acquired since the team picked + draft picks from a couple bad years a direction pan out, which won't be until at least 2019. All we're able to judge right now is the deals that were made, which look great on paper which is all you can really ask for at this stage. I do understand the concept of a rebuild The topic is: "How do you rate the rebuild so far?" I agree with what you said, everything you said. I'm just saying to rate the rebuild so far, you can't give it more than a 2 3 or 4. Why? It's a process and right now we are in the s*** part of the process. The only thing we have next to the prospects' names are expert rankings, which mean NOTHING. I told everybody to no avail that I applaud the prospects we got and the rankings next to their names. Fantastic. Probably couldn't do better in that regard. But to rate the rebuild so far??? Well, you have to take this as a process. At this stage of the process the rebuild is nothing but horses*** baseball at this time and prospects either doing their thing in the minors or getting ready to rake. Relax, folks. My grade of 2 is the CURRENT GRADE, how I rate the rebuild so far. I told everybody that as we start winning, if we start winning, the grade goes up and up. Could it someday be an 8 9 or 10, I said sure it could be. Am I 'happy' with the prospects we got? Sure, on paper of course. But again, all seasons matter. Why is that so hard to understand? And at this stage of the rebuild this season is horrific. Until the Sox start winning, my rebuild grade is very low. I DO understand the rebuild. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) Your point doesn't make any sense. The whole point of this is to be really bad at the major league level while accumulating a s***load of high upside prospects. There is zero reason to be winning games right now because it's counterproductive to what they are trying to do. If you're gonna win 75 games then you might as well win 65 games and pick really high in the draft to accumulate more high upside controllable talent. You're extremely ignorant about the draft though. Ignorant about the draft? Hmmm. Pedro Alvarez second; where was Trout drafted? Rodon? Fulmer? Look I have the right to not give a s*** if we pick third or 13th. I happen to think you get a good player at either slot. I understand why you guys think losses are part of the rebuild. I happen to think that is a horrific way of rebuilding. You are talking a few draft slots here or there in a draft where there are no guarantees. None. Why can't you humor me on this and say you understand my position. You DISAGREE with it, but my position is completely logical. And I will gladly increase my rating of the rebuild if and when we start winning. If we win a division and WS or two or three because of this rebuild, fantastic. I will be first to watch the parade on TV and buy the WS T-shirts and hats again. But as of now ... I want proof. My grade for the rebuild is tied to upcoming success and right now it's abysmal failure (in terms of this year's team). You guys can say getting the No. 1 or 2 draft pick means everything to a rebuild and that losing is the way to go. To me? No. 3 pick vs 10 MEANS NOTHING. That doesn't make me the dumbest fan alive. You all think I am a dunce.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 03:00 AM) you have to play for the big inning even if Moncada actually had a clue how to bunt. That bunt on the first pitch was hilarious. Looked like he never tried one for sure. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 03:01 AM) I legit feel bad for fellow Sox fans that want them to win this year Thank u. That's me. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 02:35 AM) I agree with you 100% and I think many here are too. Even DA who has a sarcasm with posters who want every manager/coach fired, hated the bunt call with Moncada. Thanks, Ace. The lightning and rain has hit Lawrence. Will this game be completed?

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 02:32 AM) Holmberg.. can't even get lefties out. Feel bad for him. I feel badly for any one of our pitchers, who are putting their health on the line when they take the mound. Did you see how hard hit those homers were? A ball hit that hard can do some real damage. I'd recommend a majority of our pitchers wearing some sort of hockey helmet in the future.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 02:30 AM) Giants won today I don't want to argue with you, because you are a good person obviously, but your position saddens me. I thought you were a White Sox 'win at all costs' guy before. Sad. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 02:31 AM) Even one one the few joys, Moncada at the plate they have him try to bunt. Amen. I mean again, why bunt? This game means nothing. Now, he may be trying to lose, so that would be a different story obviously as 'wink wink' they want to win games. If Ricky is purposely trying to lose, fine. His bosses could forgive that.
