New York vs. Chicago
Poor Avi. Another 0h-fer. He's gonna be under .300 pretty soon.

Quintana
QUOTE (FT35 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 06:25 PM) Pitchers basically have to throw the ball through a thimble to get a called strike and to hitters...that translates to more offense. And it sickens me. They haven't called a strike a strike for so many years now. All because of the umps' union. The umps laugh at baseball year after year as they ump the game the way they want to.

2017 AL Central Catch all thread
QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 02:38 AM) Verlander, 7 innings, 3 runs Impressive Baseball is such a crazy game. KC had bases loaded three runs in and nobody out, Verlander got out of it and KC finished the game with 3 runs and lost.

Quintana
QUOTE (miracleon35th @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 07:05 PM) My 2 cents - I do not think Quintana will be traded during this season. My first reason in thinking that is that I doubt that teams will offer what Hahn wants, which might be a high value prospect, perhaps in the top 25 in baseball, plus one or two other prospects. No team , in my estimation, will offer that. Secondly, I read a few reports that indicate that Quintana has a comfort level with the WS staff, players and a City where the fans love him, and does not want to be thrown into a play-off race with an unfamiliar team. Of course, Q would not have a choice without a no-trade clause, but the WS might honor his wishes, especially if what is being offered for him is not compelling. I think the rebuild ha fizzled. I'm just glad they signed Luis Robert to at least keep some hope alive. Good post, miracle. You could be right. We shall see.

White Sox decline to tender Tyler Flowers and Jacob Turner
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 07:10 PM) I never said implied it was easy, but shuffling around veterans hoping to catch lightning in a bottle in age 30-34 seasons isn't a good strategy. It's not surprising sox get burned. Moving forward, I would hope they have the organization with enough depth that they can fill below average production internally, because "I'm glad we sort of reverse that trend this year with several young guys having breakout years." Is not surprising to me in the least. And those years would have never happened because we'd have austin jackson in center and brandon phillips or some s*** at 2b. If we are going to the market, relievers and sp 5-6-7 depth aside, let's use it to get something we can't get within our system. Pretty confident we will be able to create negative WAR catchers for the foreseeable future. Leaving this horses*** organization certainly has helped Tyler. It did not help Beckham, however. I am of the suspicion Tyler is happy he's not a member of the White Sox any more. I'm sure he does miss this great city though. Chicago is paradise compared to Atlanta cept for the brutal winters.

President Donald Trump: The Thread
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 01:38 PM) He's very angry about WaPo exposing the fact that he has FAKE NEWS Time magazine covers at at least 5 of his properties yesterday, and now Time has asked him to remove these photoshopped covers. Good way for Time to get in the news. Isn't Time failing as well as most print media outlets? Its Web presence isn't that well known. Isn't Time being petty? There are a lot of fake covers of Time in movies, etc., like Gump and the like. The fake Time cover is kind of well known. Not that it isn't amazing Trump is a.) dumb enough to think it's real. b.) so full of ego he has to see his face on a cover like that every day. Man ... we can only hope to be as rich as Trump in our next lives. To be wealthy ... it's so different an experience. I know a third generation guy who has never worked a day in his life and he's middle aged. Daddy has worked it out that he and his family have had overflowing amounts of money. I wonder how the exchange of money works. The kid has a title at daddy's company so daddy could fork him over a huge salary, but I'd think there would be a way to just hand over the cash to keep taxes out of it. Trump is a 1 percenter and so rich I can't believe he fooled anybody into voting for him for president. I know many of us despised Hillary and simply could not vote for her and would not vote for her under any conditions, but to vote for Trump, a rich 1 percenter with an ego as big as the ocean ... WOW. Rich people like him are so selfish they cannot be president. It seems like Bill Gates has it right. Everything I've read about him is he gives gives gives money to society. But Trump? He's pretty much everything that's wrong with the world (the 1 percent $$$$ only caring about pampering themselves).

OBAMA/TRUMPCARE MEGATHREAD
Any momentum to get the bill killed of late? I did read Trump said he wouldn't be that bummed if it doesn't pass. How can the politicians do this to the people. We need to stall this out for 3 years and wait for Bernie to take over (if he stays healthy it's Bernie time in 2020 baby) and get the socialism thing going (in some areas like healthcare).

Red Sox Targeting Frazier?
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) I'm going to be fine with whatever they get for Frazier, especially because I doubt they'll eat any salary. I won't be complaining about the return in the Frazier trade. I am convinced he's worth one very very low level prospect if that. Nobody wanted Adam Dunn; nobody in their right mind would want Frazier though he is a decent fielder.

How do you rate the rebuild so far?
QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 01:17 PM) You give it a 2 - Makes me all the more confident in my 8. They got the best prospect in baseball for Sale. They signed the best player from Cuba. 2? This is a bit, right? I like the Robert signing. That's not really rebuilding however. I consider it more free agency. You see a guy. You sign a guy. That to me is great. However it was alarming to read the ESPN.com Magazine article on the Cuban players and so so many are busts. I don't consider a signing of a Cuban player as part of any rebuild. This losing and tanking for draft picks and trades are the crucial rebuild mechanisms. We've signed Cuban players before and didn't call it part of any rebuild. So far this rebuild has given us a horrible season this season and a GM who for some reason didn't complete his blockbuster trades of Q and Robertson last winter. He has two trades to make this season as this so called rebuild continues. Let's see who he gets for Q and Robertson. I am glad four of us gave the rebuild a 2 thus far. I guess I could start patting Hahn on the back if Moncada comes up and looks like the superstar he supposedly is. I also was high high high on Anderson at one time, but everybody has limits. I finally got sick of low on base percentage and inability to take a walk. He did have a few walks in June and now has nine which is lending some hope. He did have a good on base percentage his last year of AA so maybe ...

White Sox decline to tender Tyler Flowers and Jacob Turner
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 02:47 PM) I know there is some hard core hindsight going on here, but there was literally not a single person who wanted the Sox to keep Tyler Flowers. None. He definitely was a Soxtalk whipping boy. People despised him. Glad for him that he's doing well. He'd go into horrendous 1 for 40ish type slumps (Avi is halfway through a doozy now) but he was a likeable player cause of the occasional bombs he'd hit. With the advance of the framing stat for the advanced statniks, he'd be very popular now if he was still with the Sox. Pitch framing had not yet become a big deal until his final year with the Sox. Now he'd be proclaimed acceptable to good by the stat people if he was just starting his Sox career.

What's up with Saladino?
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 02:53 PM) I don't think anyone thought he was a "start on a WS contender". But he is a nice player that couldn't easy man 2B and bat 8th on a playoff team. He is not elite by any means, but he plays great D and has flexibility. Winning teams need guys like that. I don't think many people thought he was more than that. I thought he was a definite starter. I thought he showed good power for a second baseman and had a clue at the plate and could actually hit .300 in the big leagues with excellent production. This year convinced me I was wrong. He was pathetic before he got hurt.

Quintana
QUOTE (bmags @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 03:48 PM) I still think Quintana has been screwed by the unannounced raising of the strike zone (low strikes getting called less frequently) that has caused him to experiment with other areas (high and inside). He seems to have corrected this by including the changeup more low? Not to sound like a stodgy traditonalist (I'm all in favor of a clock on pitchers and rules against stepping out of the batters box and rules to speed up the game) but the old old strike zone worked -- the one in the rule book. Knees to letters. Its f***ing ridiculous the umps have held baseball hostage the only way they can, with a boycott of the real strike zone. They have refused to call a fastball above the belt a strike for years now. Too bad they can't fire umps who won't call a strike a strike, but their union is too powerful. The current umps have ruined baseball with their version of the strike zone and unwillingness to keep the game moving.

Update: Tilson BACK IN walking boot
Is Tilson any good or another bust? Does he project to be Eaton-ish? That would be good enough.
-
How do you rate the rebuild so far?
How anybody could give the rebuild a 10 is beyond me. Until the guys we got in the Sale deal prove they are good major leaguers I'll stick with a grade of 2. Ditto the guys in the Eaton deal.

Quintana
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 05:02 AM) You are absolutely correct, Comrade Greg. Ozzieink Guillenski vould have led them to many, many rings large enough in size to kill a man. It's ridiculous to trade a guy as dominant as Sale. Sale and Q are quite a potent 1-2 and Robin could do nothing with that combo. Ridiculous.

New York @ Chicago
Awesome. Suck it Yankees. Suck it.

New York @ Chicago
QUOTE (Insp @ Jun 28, 2017 -> 03:35 AM) According to you nobody is ever any good unless they are on the other team. Jose is good even if he chokes here.

New York @ Chicago
I love Melky for his toughness but he also blows. Two outs.
-
New York @ Chicago
Bases loaded. This pitcher blows. They should trade for Robertson tonight. David woulda mowed us down 1-2-3.
-
New York @ Chicago
Good thing he took that pitch. Ball four. two on one out. Until I see otherwise I predict DP to end game. One hopper somewhere, easy DP.
-
New York @ Chicago
This Hanson guy isn't very good IMO.
-
New York @ Chicago
Boy that 3-0 pitch looked like a letter high strike. Ball four. One on one out. DP coming?
-
New York @ Chicago
Sickening at bat. one out.

What's up with Saladino?
I had a love affair for Saladino but I'm over him. I do feel sorry for him having a bad back, don't wish that on anybody. But I've given up on him being a good major leaguer. I thought he could hit .315 in his sleep over 500 at bats. I was wrong.

New York @ Chicago
Anderson needs to get on base here, not try to jack a HR. The question is ... can he get on base here?
