  1. QUOTE (Deadpool @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) TWTW is complete garbage. The team just isn't good enough and management goes in every year setting them up for failure. The end. Glad Jose isn't blind, but he also overvalues TWTW apparently. I kind of agree. You need talent to win. But ... there's no question the Sox look flat against teams from the Central. I do think the other teams are more alert, more savvy and do "want it more." The emotional part of baseball can be crap like you say, but I do think what Jose said is true.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) Chicago White Sox 27 mins · Yesterday Jose Abreu hit his 25th home run of the season, marking the first time a White Sox player has hit 25+ home runs in each of his first 3 MLB seasons. http://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/…/sox-look-to-bounce-back…/ That's pretty neat. No need to be anything but pleased with Abreu.

  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 20, 2016 -> 02:19 AM) So Abreu states the Sox don't want it as much as the Royals do. Finally somebody said it. Sox don't want it most times they take the field. For some reason they seem to play hard against the AL East and the Cubs get their attention UNTIL we assure ourselves at least a split in the series. Sox played so passively after winning those 2 in the Cell. The other teams in the Central care about beating the Sox; the Sox could give a s*** about beating those teams in the Central. They mail in those games effort wise. You guys despised Ozzie but he wouldn't have put up with this s*** without calling out these bums.
  6. I haven't studied WHY they honored Joe on Saturday at all so I may be way off base. Was it some kind of anniversary? My take, however, is brutal. Look ... Penn State should be distancing itself from Joe P. Just not EVER talking about him, mentioning his name, etc. What need was there to honor Joe Saturday? Why?? To please his relatives? Just no need to honor Joe Pa. Ridiculous. PSU officials should be ashamed of themselves. The most recent news about Joe was some report not too long ago that he knew about Sandusky's behavior. Disgusting and no school should be honoring Joe right now. Maybe in 20 years or something if it's been proven Joe didn't know.
  7. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 09:03 PM) Is it too much to ask for .500 ball in that area? I'm sure the front office doesn't see this as a problem. It's scouting. It's our team not responding to the challenge. Other teams treat the games more importantly than the Sox. They realize uh, these games matter more! It's going to take a while to get over this ineptitude vs. the Central. We need a good manager first of all. I don't know if just adding Renteria is going to matter much.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 19, 2016 -> 03:23 AM) One thing they both have in common is trouble staying healthy. Saladino has had several injuries, and is currently out after hearing a pop in his calf Friday night. Might need them both around to make it through a season. I didn't realize Tyler was injury prone. Not good obviously.
  9. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Sep 18, 2016 -> 10:48 PM) Last night Hillary gets interviewed about the attacks in NY/NJ/MIN, calls them bombings. Less than a minute later criticizes Trump for calling them bombings before the details come out. CNN realizes her mistake and covers for her by editing her use of the word bombings from the interview. Like I said, it's disgraceful, but media members just have to have a Democrat in the oval office. Hillary is pure despicable yet we've got to have her eight years, followed by eight more of you know who. I don't get it. Why cover for her?? Trump's not going to win.
  10. Do a google on Eleanor Mondale and you see some racy stuff. I won't address the allegations unless you tell me they were true.
  11. QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 18, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) No one seems to mention the "eye test". The more I've watch both Lawrie and Saladino, the more I favor the latter. Perhaps it's that terrible hitch in Lawrie's swing and all of the accompanying strike outs. Whatever it is, Tyler just looks like a more fundamentally solid player. It's a shame because Lawrie has talent. Some guys just seem to have that baseball acumen and Saladino strikes me as one of those guys. When Lawrie broke into the Big Leagues, he was young, even for a rookie. He began his career with a world of promise, but has not developed, in fact, he has regressed. He should now be in his prime, but has not translated his physical tools into performance. Maybe that's something that requires good baseball acumen. Put another way; the better the baseball acumen, the better a player is able to use his experience, in order to improve his performance. Saladino gives one the impression that he is that kind of player. Do others here get the same impression? Yes. Yes. Yes. I always use the eye test even though it angers the stat-niks. Just get rid of Lawrie and try to get a serviceable bullpen guy for him and insert Tyler at 2B. That's a helluva infield in theory: Frazier, Anderson, Saladino and Abreu.
  12. Even when KC is going bad we usually find a way to lose the series. Weird. They'd lost five straight before yesterday.

Jim Brown on Syracuse.com says about what I've been saying about Colin's stance insulting the military and there being better ways to protest. SYRACUSE.com link for those who again think I'm trolling http://www.syracuse.com/orangefootball/ind...al_activis.html Brown, however, cautioned that police shootings and cases of police brutality can't be lumped together and protested against in bulk. "The things he's pointing to are things that should be evaluated and handled by those in a superior position to him," Brown said. "When you talk about police killing people and brutality, that is not something you can just march in the streets and protest against because every case is a different case and should be adjudicated. We have people in position in the political arena that should be spearheading those types of things. That issue is above football players." He also questioned the wisdom of using the national anthem to boost the visibility of the protest. "You can point it out but you don't necessarily want to disrespect the national anthem or the flag," Brown said. "There are outside entities that are trying to bring this country down. We have to go back to the memories of 9-11. If that memory doesn't do anything to you as an American, then you're not really that sensitive a human being. When you think of the sacrifices our firefighters make, think about the service of soldiers in foreign lands and listen to their lives, you have to be careful that whatever you do, don't cast a shadow on what these great people do. They make sure you have the right so speak out without retaliation, or at least no retaliation other than other people criticizing you."
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 18, 2016 -> 12:59 PM) Would a Republican try to control pharmaceutical prices? Even for the Epipen (worth noting a Democratic senator's daughteris the one responsible for unchecked avarice there, Manchin.) Let's not forget you'd have lost all the Detroit automakers' jobs (let them fail, Romney famously said) and Bush is the one who created the unfunded mandate in Medicare Part B which blew up the budget by another $1-2 trillion. Another $3-5 trillion was defense spending on multiple wars in the Middle East which clearly have't made the world any safer from terrorism, as you pointed out. Well I did vote for Obama, so I didn't want Romney to do anything in the oval office. Obama cemented Hillary's victory today by imploring black voters to vote for her. He said it would be a personal insult if they don't. Look for her numbers to rise dramatically starting now. This is about when the media will start pushing hard for Hillary too. Maybe let one week of October pass then the blitz begins. Hillary will win in a landslide. It's like Donald says. It's fixed. Hillary is going to have a very fun next six weeks as she gets the boost the Democratic candidate usually receives come election time. https://www.yahoo.com/news/obama-black-vote...-152203956.html
  15. I always enter 3 leagues. I usually win one of them and usually make the playoffs in 2 of the three.
  16. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 09:54 PM) I don't cheer against them, but I will be happy when (please) they lose. Most,if not all, of my friends who root for the Cubs are good fans. It's not them I worry about. It's more the collective douchiness of their fans and the media slurping that sickens me. I hate that their fans are so proud that they are the majority of the crowd at some away games. it just seems that a good number of their fans care more about being part of the fan group than they care about the actual team. It's like the people who are on social media who only care about how many friends or followers they have. Yeah the Bartman series I was resigned to the fact they were going to the WS. I was in the "wishing them well" mode. Then when they blew it I found I was pretty happy they blew it.
  17. Sports fans are amazing. The Royals fans booed Soria mercilessly this week when he pitched. And Yost for putting him in there. Fans always think they are the best. Then they pull s*** like that. Fans are all the same. A bunch of them are morons. One of the reasons I'm so loyal to the guys from the 05 Sox for years after they won it is ... they f***ing won it! I'm not going to blast them after giving me nirvana.

  19. QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 18, 2016 -> 03:05 AM) Obama has been extremely effective. I'm not sure what more you could've asked for given the monumental obstructionism. The country is unequivocally better off now than it was 8 years ago. But unfortunately people have very short memories where politics are concerned. OM gosh. The world of participation trophies. The world is WAY WORSE now than when Barack Obama took over. The economy in the USA is horrible for the middle classes. health care is AWFUL. Costs are astronomical. There is no leadership. If I were president I'd kick some ass to the pharm companies and tell them to get real. 800 dollars for a prescription unless you have insurance??? You guys are easy graders. Barack's America is a DISASTER! Chaos in cities. Violence. Horrific relations between cops and the people. Gridlock in trying to get any cooperation from Congress. Obama gets a D or D-plus! That said I do like the man personally. Great sense of humor and a Sox fan! But as a president ... please! He's not a leader. p.s. I VOTED for the man.
  20. Bad game for the Sox. We still haven't beaten KC in a series this year. This one is 1-1.
  21. Those Dakota schools are not bad in football. Tough loss for Iowa.
  22. I have players I despise, too, who have put up good numbers like Lawrie and Melky, but your hatred of Tyler Saladino is weird. I probably shouldn't hate Melky as he gets hits but I'm not a huge fan. I'd be OK with Tyler starting every day at second. On paper our new manager has a not bad infield of Frazier, Anderson, Saladino and Abreu. That's a playoff infield. Our catching is a huge problem. It's the catching situation of a last place team. Our outfield? Melky, Eaton and Avi doesn't cut it at all. Can't win with that outfield. DH is Morneau. He's a playoff team DH. Bullpen blows. Starting rotation is playoff worthy. Get to work, Mr. Hahn. Team isn't going to playoffs next year as it stands.
  23. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) Saladino has had an 18 game hot streak (OPS of .935 in that span). Before that, he was at a .674 OPS. That puts him dead last among qualified MLB 2Bs. Now at .738, there are only five MLB two-baggers below him (Phillips, Gennett, Panik, Utley and Harrison). Let's not act like Saladino is some proven hitter who can only be prevented from starting at second next year by the acquisition of Moncada or better. He's had a nice 18 games, but he's been BAD for most of his career. If regular Tyler (as in the player we've seen for 88% of his career) shows up and he's a starter, we are going to sink hard. We have a team full of underachievers, at least it appears that way. Saladino and Anderson are breaths of fresh air. Play them.
  24. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 04:16 AM) The younger guys we have on the team have a lot of fun playing the game. It really sucks we can't put everything together because a lot of the roster is very likeable and are pretty good players (Sale, Q, Eaton, Abreu, Melky, Saladino, Frazier, Anderson, Robertson, Jones, Rodon). Saladino and Anderson look like great team guys. Your post seems pretty accurate to me though I've never been crazy about Melky.
  25. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Sep 17, 2016 -> 05:10 AM) I don't know if it saves him or not, but it's pretty obvious that's what Ventura is trying to do. Development is usually the priority for non contenders in September. It's not even an afterthought for this organization. And Hahn hasn't done a thing to change it, so he obviously sanctions this behavior. It's not just Sale going 119 (he's throwing Q and Rodon like that too). As for tantrums, who's running this operation? Sale? And they're going to reach .500 - probably a little above. Great post. If we finish over .500 Robin is not gonna be fired. That is scary. Jerry will say that Robin has learned and now is ready to excel and why should we be the team that put up with his learning curve only to let some other team benefit? I say our performance in Central Div. games should be the deciding factor as well as the fragile-ness of the squad. Next year when we have a heartbreaking loss it'll again end our season like the one we had in May this year to send us reeling from 23-10 to oblivion. Robin is incapable of a.) beating the Central. b.) overcoming tough losses. If Buddy Bell is hired I'll probably finally stop being a Sox fan. If Robin comes back it will be very tough to continue being a Sox fan. I could take Renteria I guess. But you know who I want: LaRussa or Leyland, 2 year contracts with a coach in waiting next to them.
