That had to be the highlight of McKinney's career. He was no JC Martin that's for sure.

Especially when it rained and the turf was wet. So ugly. ... at least the fans could count Melton's homers. And wonder how Luis Alvarado had a job in the bigs.

Cubs Thread 2024
Trust me I'm not. True I'm losing interest in all teams but I cannot name one Cub starting pitcher. I've heard of Darby. I can pretty much name all the Sox except some of these woebegone relievers they bring up. ... However I now see no reason the Cub shouldn't make the playoffs. It has no effect on the Sox since our team is gonna stink for years to come. It used to be Cub success would pressure the Sox into getting off their butts and start winning. No longer. Nothing matters except Jerry's wallet. I know that's always been the case but we've had some good Sox teams throughout history til the Double Tank. So yes I welcome a Cub playoff berth. Why not? Anything to embarrass JR if it's possible.

At least fans of that team could discuss why in the world the owner had an astroturf infield and grass outfield. Not so aesthetically beautiful.

Yeah, I just wanted to dedicate today's lifeless effort to the day's of "Ozzie Sunday."

That's be a fun activity; 107th Street establishments, then 108th st, then 109th. Or what's located on those blocks anyway.

I'd love to see a stat from the advanced metrics lovers if they could get it for me. I've noticed the Sox really go down quickly in the 9th inning of games. I'd like average amount of seconds, or minutes, and amount of pitches it's taken to dispose of the Sox in the 9th. I guarantee you they are amazing stat figures. It doesn't take long to finish off the Sox in the 9th.

Holy bleep. We get shutout in tribute to Ozzie's old Sunday lineups. Ozzie's only flaw as skipper in my book. The Sunday lineup. Mets have to be going: 'My gosh we heard about how lifeless that ballclub is ... that sweep was so easy." I can't believe we've lost 10 in a row again. I forget how high the other losing streaks reached. Would be neat to go 18 in a row this time.

I can't help it. My anger toward Sox ownership and leadership is such that I no longer totally despise the Cubs even though I still can't name any players.

We all knew the record would be legendary when we saw the final roster. I coulda sworn I picked us to win in the 40s.

9/1 GT - Mets at Sox (1:10pm CT)
Wow the Mets had a pitcher go 7 innings. Holy bleep. That's unheard of in modern baseball. I see we have two hits and Vaughn is an oh-fer so far again. What is wrong with Vaughn? He had climbed to close to .250. Now he's cascading downward.

Iriarte up tomorrow
I was in the car tonight and got the postgame show on Sirius. The announcer (McKnight maybe?) was saying, get this, the plan is to have him pitch one inning in relief every 3-5 days. He'll start and finish the inning. He won't inherit any baserunners. The announcer stressed all season he's been a starter. So I don't get this. Why make him a reliever now?? As much as I hate openers if he HAS to pitch just one inning, make him the damn opener. He better not get hurt suddenly becoming a reliever. The announcer on postgame said he's had problems 'some games' walking people. Other games he's hardly walked any. He was in the Cease deal I think so he better be good! Anybody else disagree with how the Sox are handling his role? One inning max, a clean inning in relief at some point in the game.

I hope they make the playoffs. Why not? It's not like our Sox are even trying as Tank Two continues to develop.

8/31 Sox vs. Metropolitans 6:10PM
Are you kidding me?? Have we really lost 9 in a row again?? And we might have an 0-10 homestand? This is beyond belief. The entire season a total Ripley Believe it Or Not episode.

Jerry made a good buck off those fans. Not a bad idea, fly in for a weekend holiday series.

8/31 Sox vs. Metropolitans 6:10PM
You know, our Sox are so bad I hope the Cubs make the playoffs. Anything to try to embarrass Reinsdorf. He probably won't be embarrassed and the media is pretty much ignoring the awfulness of the team so I hope the Cubs make it. This season and last and the current state of a double tank has changed my mindset so much as a Sox fan. I sort of hate the team and whole organization now while recognizing I was born a Sox fan and will never divorce completely.

Aren't they five back of the WC? That's too many to make up. They stunk for too long to make the playoff.

8/30/24 Gamethread Miracle Mets at Miracle Max' White Sox 7:10 Central
I know it doesn't matter cause of tv contracts and all that, but how in the hell can they sell even 1000 season tickets for next season? And how could any corporations waste time advertising for Jerry's clowns. It just makes no sense that this team makes billions of dollars.

Thanks 2023. How was the crowd? I saw Phillips stands were about half full or more than that. Not bad. What about your side of the field? Were the people having fun? Glad your kid is 1-0.

Boy that was a bad game. Pathetic again. That record is beyond belief. I know we've said it before but loss after loss. It's just unbelievable. Reinsdorf is lucky the media is dead. If this were the era with real columnists at the papers he'd be blasted daily. Like the Mariotti era. I bet even Royko woulda went after JR even tho he loves the Cubs.

Thank u. I actually watched the first 2 1/2 quarters on BR TV. My comments: Wow. I did not know we got two transfers in the running back from Marian Catholic (sorry I don't know names don't mean to offend) and the tall receiver I think they said was from St. Rita or somewhere. Or maybe another RB was from Rita. My observations: Can't tell much cause poor Phillips had nothing BUT Rice looked bigger than past years to me which is a good sign and also the QB (is he only a junior?) played a much better game than anybody I've seen at Rice in a long time. The early play where he rolled out and found the tall receiver for a score (called back for penalty) was pretty special. No. 9 on defense resembles some of the stud defenders Rice seems to have every year. That kid took the ball from the Phillips QB and scored I think. Hearing that we got all these transfers makes me feel good that we might be able to play with the big boys. I have to reserve all judgments because of the competition, but I thought the boys played great albeit against a miserable team. The offensive line seemed good to me and the defense was outstanding all around. What did u think of the game 2023? Is that Marian Catholic RB the real deal or not? Seemed like the QB has good vision and has a lot of tools for a h.s. QB. Congrats to Q and the players. Running clock in second half musta got u out of stadium earlier than normal.

Chet Lemon in bad shape from multiple strokes
So sad. He could cover so much ground. One time in Comiskey somebody hit a shot to right center. Chet started out so far away from the ball. He wasn't in the camera shot at all. Then suddenly he dives and gets it. I was at an event once that Chet was at and got to visit with him. I actually asked him about that play and he described it and remembered it. He modestly admitted he made some great catches in his career. Of course he hit the ball as anybody on the Hitmen in 77. I remember imitating not only hit batting stance but the way he pounded his mitt on his thigh waiting for high flies to come land in his mitt. Favorite player by far. Very sad story. Best wishes.

Big, tough kids I bet. Hopefully Rice will set the tone with a nice win over Phillips.

Vaughn is struggling again, average down to .240 after a 'fair' month or so.

8/29 vs Rangers 1:10
4-37? That's really bad. That has to be an all time futility record for a 41 game stretch. I mean it proves (again) this is not a big league team/franchise.
