  1. By far the worst sports franchise in history. OK maybe hyperbole. But very very close. Didn't the Sixers or somebody win nine games all season back in the day? But still. Cmon, losing streaks of 14 and 20? With some of the clown hirings in modern history?
  2. Sox are lucky the media has changed so much. They rarely get criticized for a record this bad. Plus the team only has a handful of vocal fans, all on this board. Nobody else cares enough to say anything. Looking back, the Sox should have kept LaRussa or hired Leyland during the Hawk era for 30 years and kept Dombroski and with the two of them the Sox woulda been a proud franchise. Looking back, the hiring of Hawk as GM started the agony. In retrospect the '05 title was the fluke people are talking about. Law of averages clicked in and Sox dominated the postseason. Dombroski and LaRussa shoulda been Sox lifers. Thanks Jerry.
  3. Wow will getting out of that jam lead the Sox comeback? Momentum?
  4. He actually has to compete on the Orioles and sometimes effort can bring out raw talent if it's there. It's obvious the Sox culture is not one of competing at a high level and bringing out talent. This notion probably could help trade Vaughn if they wanted to dump him this winter.
  5. Frankly I'd just shut everybody down on the team who has a future in the game. If all the games are meaningless, which they are, just sit everybody of note lest they get hurt. The two things that absolutely drive greg crazy are politics and the state of the Sox. As far as the Sox, from reading posts on Soxtalk I've been convinced our fave team is going to be even worse next year and very very bad again in 2026. Most of the fans on here don't want to start the clock on any of our good prospects til 2026 or 2027. So that means for a 4-year span, the White Sox are going to continue losing games at a record clip. This infuriates greg to no end. ... So yes when I read about Crochet's being shut down, I get upset. Meanwhile in a bad economy the White Sox are apparently raking in mega dollars and will continue to rake in mega dollars and if for some reason the team was sold it would be for billions of dollars. I don't understand all the nonsequitirs. Forgive me for being frustrated and upset and mystified all in one.
  6. I can add a lot more: Koosman, Clemens, Ryan, others said: Give me the ball.
  7. Please comment on my assertion that a team would have been crazy to trade for Crochet considering his limitations on Aug. 1. Also comment on his being totally worthless to the Sox at this stage of the season going 4 innings max. This is silly to even discuss. 2-4 innings in the early portion of the game is not important.
  8. I stand by what I said. Talk to pitchers like Jim Kaat, Fergie Jenkins, Mark Buehrle, Tom Seaver, Bob Gibson, LaMarr Hoyt about inning limits. They got the ball and threw it.
  9. Bullpen today was miserable. Crochet four innings is worthless in modern baseball. He's incredible sure, but the Twins led 1-0 when he left the game. Any team that traded for this version of Crochet would have been idiotic as that team's fans would not have understood his babying of his arm and very little value down the stretch into the playoffs.
  10. By the way, Robert, Julks and Fletcher has to be one of the worst starting lineups for an outfield in a White Sox game since the 60s. That's one horrific outfield hitting wise. I don't even consider Robert elite any more. He's not proven squat.
  11. Funny thing is a lot of these teams the Sox have been manhandled by this year (KC, Minnie, others) actually aren't very good teams. That's how bad the White Sox have been. Minnie leads. We gonna finally rally for a W? ... Whoa, didn't realilze we only have two hits.
  12. Sox had the city after winning it all in 2005. They did nothing with it. Too bad. That was their chance to be highly relevant forever. Think of the money they made that year and the year after.
  13. I think Alice Cooper's I'm 18 and School's Out are two of the great songs ever sang.
  14. Back in the day my friend the flamethrower and I played rubber ball against the wall at Mt Greenwood school every day in the summer. Sometimes he'd play somebody else later and pitch a Little League game at night. He threw fastball, curve from 10 to 12 in Little League, went on to Babe Ruth or whatever we called 13-15 and he pitched. He then went to Brother Rice and was a starter, then before college he blew his arm out and that was that. Think of how many times MLB pitchers threw 150 to 200 pitches in college and Babe Ruth to get their teams meaningless championships. Then in the minors? All those innings. The human arm can't take all this work/stress apparently.
  15. I wonder if Crochet tomorrow is at the stage he'll pitch 2 maybe 3 innings max the final two months. That won't really help the Sox much to end the streak. Should be 0-0 when he exits. ... Like greg said I read something today that no team was willing to trade for Crochet with his demand of no postseason play. No contender wanted a guy who is on some weird inning limit. Contenders aren't dumb. I was mocked for taking this position a few weeks ago on here.
  16. That's cause Beni blew it letting the ball drop. The Twins announcers were flabbergasted at Beni's lousy play there.
  17. Three hits tonight won't cut it. This lineup and that collection of pitchers would lose 10 out of 10 games every set of 10. That's a bad baseball team. ... Robert 0-for-4 with three more Ks. He appears to be very overrated.
  18. Are Schriffen and Stoney ever enjoyable? Haven't heard a game this year, just highlights. Do they have discussions like Stoney and Bennetti used to have? I enjoyed their banter, even when they just joked around and busted each others' chops. Are these 2 ever interesting, etc?
  19. This is not meant to be political at all, just exclamatory. ... To show you the 'remarkableness' of the world, can you imagine a new germ or disease or whatever you want to call it, started in China or wherever, and within a year basically everyone on the entire planet got the illness through the germ. It's scary how one small germ infected somebody somewhere and months later everybody on the planet caught the disease. And there was basically nothing we could do about it. We were gonna get it and most of us multiple times. Shows you how precarious our planet really is. Someday that germ could cause something more nefarious. Peace out and go Sox!
  20. Considering these terms, I'd have just released him. Baltimore coulda paid the 4.5 million that's left. Sox paid almost all of it and half the buyout? Where's the pride? I'd have eaten the chump change remaining money rather than give Baltimore Eloy for nothin basically. Pretty sad, Mr. Getz.
  21. Since the Sox are so horrid and there's nothing to talk about, would somebody open a thread and daily update us on Pham and Fedde and Eloy and DeBong and their daily performances and how they are doing? Thank u.
  22. Sad. Seems like a lot of pitchers get hurt. I wonder if pitching all those innings in Little League, Babe Ruth, high school, college, minors make it impossible to make it as a big league pitcher. Arm just can't take all those stressful heaters combined with sliders.
  23. That would be funny if the boys get the streak up to 20. You'd think Minnie could beat up this current crew in their own park but we'll see. Sox are due to win a game. Probably come on Crochet's start.
  24. This is what is distressing. The Sox basically have 2 good players: Robert and Crochet and Robert has yet to prove anything at the plate this season. Crochet is fabulous but still just a five-inning guy so you gots to go to the pen to ruin most of his starts. DeBong and Pham were productive (this year at least) so you basically have a lineup full of minor leaguers for next season. Hopefully we'll only win 10 more games the rest of this year and check out with 37 wins. That would be very nice in terms of embarrassing Jerry. Keeping it under 40 would be dandy. You could say next year we only win 35, but like Fathom said, it's very difficult for a baseball team to be held to this few wins. I'd bring up that SS phenom of ours and pull a Bobby Witt. Let him play. Sox stink but the question is for how many more years?
  25. What about since the mound was raised?
