  1. That's a start. Finally a gesture for the fans. I've always wondered why a team this bad wouldn't simply have a deal buy tickets for two games, get one game free for a total of 3 games. There's no reason a team this bad doesn't have a deal like that. Or buy tickets for two games in April and the first two weeks of May and get two games free during the summer. Free should not be a four letter word to these money grubbing lousy franchises. ... Also have some more food deals. And have buy tickets for two games, parking is free for a third game you buy.
  2. This is a start and it makes sense to me. So all of you folks who think greg is so baseball dumb! ... I've said for a few years now it is disgraceful that the starting pitcher position now is set up in which there will be NO future Hall of Famers, no compelling pitcher outings/stories. Yanking them before going through a lineup a third time, or yanking them after 4-5 innings to me constitutes one of the major reasons baseball has self imploded. Again, you are taking away discussion of what used to be COMPELLING. The starter going 9 or even 10 innings where applicable. The starter's won/loss record being CRUCIAL in discussing a pitcher's success and ultimately his Hall of Fame consideration. 300 wins has long been the standard for automatic Hall inclusion. Now the W/L record means ZERO. Baseball has been very smart to have the pitch clock. Baseball has been dumb to have the new extra innings rule. Baseball has been dumb in deciding it's home run derby. A hitter should strike out or walk with nothing in between. The shift? Disgraceful that players refuse to bunt when even a good Little League coach would order his players to bunt to beat a stupid shift. Folks, give me my due. I am the average fan and starting pitching now means nothing. There are no future Hall of Famers taking the mound under the current system. How about cutting pitchers' workload in Little League, Babe Ruth, American Legion, high school, college. Starters in MLB should throw 120 pitches in that area and go 7 full or 7 1/3 or 7 2/3. -- and for all the new age stat lovers. You tell me how it's healthy for baseball to have wiped off the map the importance of starting pitcher!? When a guy's only going four or five innings he ain't making no Halls of Fame! Bob Gibson, Fergie Jenkins, Joel Horlen, Gary Peters, Nolan Ryan, Steve Stone, LaMarr Hoyt, real starting pitchers now rendered as nothings. Oh sorry, strike out totals are so important now. A good starter will have a minimum of eight in 4-5 innings. Boring baby! Bring back the starting pitcher.
  3. I do not think that's a very good rotation. Potentially one of the worst in baseball. Why? Martin and Cannon are cannon fodder IMO. Make them relievers. Crochet is great even though some teams have pummeled him. Thorpe verdict is out. Hitters don't fear his heater at all so will he thrive as a junk baller or not?
  4. Is Baldwin good? I've not followed it close nuff.
  5. Hey whitesox2023 can I sit next to u at a home game this year? I haven't come back for a game in a while. I did stop by the school last year and was amazed to see the baseball field was unchanged from when I tried out for the team many moons ago. I tried to get in the school but it was locked. Give me an honest take on the upcoming season please. Is Rice expected to be good again or are we reverting back to rebuilding mode? Is coach Q beloved by the kids and fans? Is his system good or bad? I think he's from the west coast as I recall. Are the Crusaders young or experienced? What about the QB? Is the league the same as always with Mt. Carmel and Loyola the bullies? Thanks in advance. p.s. Tell your son we are proud of the boys and as always we appreciate their hard work.
  6. AJ would be a disaster cause he'd be like Ozzie in terms of blasting players, etc. Generally when the manager is the story every day it's not a good clubhouse. Sure we'd enjoy AJP assessing blame and calling out these stiffs publicly, but the problem there is most is not the players' fault. They can't help being some of the worst players in the league. And AJP wouldn't be able to call out Jerry and GM and that won't work. Can't blame the players when it's mainly Jerry's fault. ... If you are going to go with "the mouth that roared" as skipper, just bring back Ozzie. He's fine strategy wise except for the Sunday lineups. Of course now and for years to come every lineup is a Sunday lineup in terms of talent for the Sox.
  7. Sox pretty much didn't do anything? Bad performance all around. Five hits.
  8. Remember the days people actually complained about Abreu's defense?
  9. All we can do as Sox fans is point out the organization's blunders. We're left with that. They gave us this embarrassing record and management has not yet apologized. "Crying?" That's hilarious. I don't forgive this organization for becoming the laughingstock of all sports teams. So we should cry some more about Burger and Jerry and the rest of these sports laughingstocks. Can you believe the Sox have not formally apologized for what is here and to come the next several seasons?
  10. Burger woulda been a good DH for 10 years or so. Fielding is unreliable. No range and like TA will boot the routine play occasionally. Love him though. His presence woulda helped this lineup a lot this year. A lot.
  11. I was just gonna say, KC is doomed the rest of the year. The Sox have come along at the right time each time they've played and KC has used the doormat Sox each series to get their season back on track. They are done with the Sox and back to playing bad baseball and will soon be toast. Meanwhile, Minnie is doing what the Sox should have been doing since the 2005 title: dominating the division. Minnie has beaten up the Sox and KC this season and still has a shot at playoffs as a result. Sox have been so bad against the Central historically it's hilarious. But back to KC .. ha ha Royals, no more games against the Sox to get you going again.
  12. Is Baldwin our second baseman of the future? Is he showing enuf?
  13. Bad loss. Soto with the big night. Fairly typical Sox offense: five hits.
  14. Vaughn and Sheets got four hits vs. the Yankees. I'm happy for them. Vaughn creeping close to .250. No matter how disappointing they've been they deserve credit for hitting tonight. Congrats to them. Sheets went the other way. Gavin ... might consider doing that a lot more. You pelted three shots to left for doubles I believe. It's OK to go the other way and get some multi hit games. Nice win. Yankees got bludgeoned really.

Man. Alex Rios looks like Babe Ruth compared to our current players. If I knew how bad it was going to get I never could have been that hard on Rios. Sox have reached the stage it's hard to remember when the team had any good MLB players. I must have been down on Rios for what he did in 09. His stats were not that bad the other years. These current Sox trash teams have made me forget why I hated certain players in the past who look like all time Sox greats now.
  16. Did anybody play All-Star Baseball as a kid, the game with the player discs? It was one for home run, 9 for strikeout, 7 for a single I think. Anyway the discs came with the game (which you could play alone) but I as a kid found some where you could order discs. I sent away for some discs (no internet back then) and when they arrived in the mail it was an early Christmas. Disks of Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Hack Wilson and all the modern players as well. Pitchers had to hit back then so there were indeed disks of pitchers' too. They were accurate or tried to be as guys like Bob Gibson could hit a little bit and some other guys could never get a hit. This may have been my favorite game as a kid. You could play with friends as well but for some reason it was more fun to play alone. https://www.ebay.com/itm/285971872212?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-166974-028196-7&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=285971872212&targetid=2357078962517&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9023847&poi=&campaignid=20903471692&mkgroupid=161081173195&rlsatarget=pla-2357078962517&abcId=9362635&merchantid=6296724&geoid=9023847&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw5ea1BhC6ARIsAEOG5pxnms8Y-Q19kCq8Raw-15qZ5mxtzCeTeT0NY9oKzhv-0LYP9Zr4hq0aAnp7EALw_wcB
  17. .211 batting average and 40 RBI kind of reeks if anybody's using the old stats. You know what's funny? People that love the old time stats for hitters BA HR RBI SBs get mocked by the advanced-stat people. Yet all the baseball announcers use BA HR RBI SBs, even pitcher wins and losses and ERA during their telecasts. Hilarious. And quite the non sequitir. Did anybody see Bill James, the original Sabes guy write earlier this season that advanced stats have ruined the game? I enjoyed reading that. But to conclude Beni reeks despite his 13 homers or however many he's hit. .211 doesn't cut it.

At least "Stand up Southsiders" could be proud of an expansion team. This thing they are throwing out there is a joke. Cue the no throw home by our shortstop yesterday. Or just flip flop it and let our AAA and AA teams merge and play out the rest of the 2024 MLB season. That'd be fun and the AA/AAA team probably would win 5-10 games. They can regroup in February/March.
  19. Embarrassing. Not a major league product Jerry is putting out there. In a Cubs Sox game there's no throw home, what a joke.

From my perspective he's a very good fielder. He is a .198 hitter. That's not elite.

We've got players checked out despite being paid a good dolalr, just a distastrous future looking we fans in the face and yet we can calm some of our fans by acting like we are building a team via some ridiculous trades. Just dump or release Moncada and Robert, sell the team and get us an expansion team in here. Sox have jumped the shark, likely forever. There is virtually no hope of turning this around with Jerry in charge. Baseball needs to step in.
  22. Do you at least agree that only in sports can a team be this historically awful and still be worth unlimited amounts of money? This would be like owning a restaurant and having the food be undercooked and the service awful and yet have waiting lists of two hours to get in the place. Inexplicable.
  23. No offense to Grady but wouldn't it be funny if he went 0-10 or so to start out? Sox still have the abymal players and pitchers that got em to this record. Would be neat if they went 0-10 under Grady.
  24. The economics of sports/baseball riddle me. The Sox can't be selling ANY merchandise anymore. I mean none. You'd have to be embarrased to wear Sox stuff outside GRate. ... The parking lots have to be empty. ... There can't be any lines for concessions cept when they play the Cubs, Bosox or Yanks. ... Yet the team is worth a gazillion dollars in a bad economy. Nobody can explain to me how TV can afford to fund these sports franchises with the golden deals. What advertiser would want to advertise with these low ratings?
  25. 0-5 with 4 strikeouts. ... Are people on the board ready to deem Robert a huge bust or are we supposed to be drooling in love with his defense? He's hitting .198 for those who like old-time stat categories.
