8/2/24 White Sox @ Twins 7:10 Central........gently rocking.....gently rocking.....gently rocking
Sox had the city after winning it all in 2005. They did nothing with it. Too bad. That was their chance to be highly relevant forever. Think of the money they made that year and the year after.

I think Alice Cooper's I'm 18 and School's Out are two of the great songs ever sang.

Thorpe to IL with flexor strain
Back in the day my friend the flamethrower and I played rubber ball against the wall at Mt Greenwood school every day in the summer. Sometimes he'd play somebody else later and pitch a Little League game at night. He threw fastball, curve from 10 to 12 in Little League, went on to Babe Ruth or whatever we called 13-15 and he pitched. He then went to Brother Rice and was a starter, then before college he blew his arm out and that was that. Think of how many times MLB pitchers threw 150 to 200 pitches in college and Babe Ruth to get their teams meaningless championships. Then in the minors? All those innings. The human arm can't take all this work/stress apparently.

I wonder if Crochet tomorrow is at the stage he'll pitch 2 maybe 3 innings max the final two months. That won't really help the Sox much to end the streak. Should be 0-0 when he exits. ... Like greg said I read something today that no team was willing to trade for Crochet with his demand of no postseason play. No contender wanted a guy who is on some weird inning limit. Contenders aren't dumb. I was mocked for taking this position a few weeks ago on here.

That's cause Beni blew it letting the ball drop. The Twins announcers were flabbergasted at Beni's lousy play there.

Three hits tonight won't cut it. This lineup and that collection of pitchers would lose 10 out of 10 games every set of 10. That's a bad baseball team. ... Robert 0-for-4 with three more Ks. He appears to be very overrated.

Are Schriffen and Stoney ever enjoyable? Haven't heard a game this year, just highlights. Do they have discussions like Stoney and Bennetti used to have? I enjoyed their banter, even when they just joked around and busted each others' chops. Are these 2 ever interesting, etc?

Eloy to Baltimore
This is not meant to be political at all, just exclamatory. ... To show you the 'remarkableness' of the world, can you imagine a new germ or disease or whatever you want to call it, started in China or wherever, and within a year basically everyone on the entire planet got the illness through the germ. It's scary how one small germ infected somebody somewhere and months later everybody on the planet caught the disease. And there was basically nothing we could do about it. We were gonna get it and most of us multiple times. Shows you how precarious our planet really is. Someday that germ could cause something more nefarious. Peace out and go Sox!

Eloy to Baltimore
Considering these terms, I'd have just released him. Baltimore coulda paid the 4.5 million that's left. Sox paid almost all of it and half the buyout? Where's the pride? I'd have eaten the chump change remaining money rather than give Baltimore Eloy for nothin basically. Pretty sad, Mr. Getz.

Eloy to Baltimore
Since the Sox are so horrid and there's nothing to talk about, would somebody open a thread and daily update us on Pham and Fedde and Eloy and DeBong and their daily performances and how they are doing? Thank u.

Thorpe to IL with flexor strain
Sad. Seems like a lot of pitchers get hurt. I wonder if pitching all those innings in Little League, Babe Ruth, high school, college, minors make it impossible to make it as a big league pitcher. Arm just can't take all those stressful heaters combined with sliders.

The Rest of the Season
That would be funny if the boys get the streak up to 20. You'd think Minnie could beat up this current crew in their own park but we'll see. Sox are due to win a game. Probably come on Crochet's start.

The Rest of the Season
This is what is distressing. The Sox basically have 2 good players: Robert and Crochet and Robert has yet to prove anything at the plate this season. Crochet is fabulous but still just a five-inning guy so you gots to go to the pen to ruin most of his starts. DeBong and Pham were productive (this year at least) so you basically have a lineup full of minor leaguers for next season. Hopefully we'll only win 10 more games the rest of this year and check out with 37 wins. That would be very nice in terms of embarrassing Jerry. Keeping it under 40 would be dandy. You could say next year we only win 35, but like Fathom said, it's very difficult for a baseball team to be held to this few wins. I'd bring up that SS phenom of ours and pull a Bobby Witt. Let him play. Sox stink but the question is for how many more years?

The Rest of the Season
What about since the mound was raised?

The Rest of the Season
Now that the Sox have traded DeBong who had surprising power this year and Eloy and Vaughn has only 10 homers, I was wondering ... is this the least amount of homers on a Sox team ever? Or since the mound was raised in the 60s? Let's face facts. Sox are not gonna win many games the rest of the way with this lack of hitting and especially inability to knock a ball over the fense. I'd love to know where our home run totals (especially on the road) rank in baseball this year and rank in Sox history. I'd imagine our team is the worst hitting team and worst HR hitting team in Sox history or definitely since the 60s. The current roster has to be last in all of baseball in HRs and possibly one of the worst in modern history in all of baseball. Peace.

Poor Stoney. Goes from working with a special young announcer who he had great chemistry with to this current guy who did that weird sound after Robert's home run. What a season. Notice how quiet Stoney has been? He's to his credit just doing his job commenting while working with a lesser talent. I've heard some of the Sox on the radio while driving. Great job as far as I can tell as always by true pros Jackson and Kaspar. I'm sure they are all well paid and there are much worse jobs out there like the poor construction workers in 100 degree heat.

Interim Manager
Let Hawk Harrelson be interim for grins. He'd at least tell it like it is on a daily basis.

Royals @ Sox, 7/31, 1:10 PM
Maybe Thorpe's low velocity will foil his career. He certainly threw some fat slow meatballs up there vs. KC.

Royals @ Sox, 7/31, 1:10 PM
Fathom, we all knew it was a perfect storm when we saw the final roster in mid January. We were going into the season weak in all facets of the modern game, facets that on a given night would cost us the game. Hitting: We knew it was bad and we knew during stretches it could be horrendous. Pitching: We knew the bullpen would cost us many many games. The starters albeit OK for a while also would not be reliable. And the defense? With a SS/2B combo of Lopez and DeBong and Mandy at catcher, cmon. So as you said: 'something is seriously wrong,' and that is the constructed roster arguably is the worst in modern baseball history, maybe THE worst active roster in big league history. Thanks Jerry.

Royals @ Sox, 7/31, 1:10 PM
So the Royals get four in the ninth to flip the final finger at the woebegone White Sox. I assume the season series is over mercilessly. Sox awaken another team that's been blah for a month or so. This is high comedy. Think of all the ignominy this season. This is as bad as anything before. KC on getaway day says 'We're in no hurry to get out of here. We'll score four more against these bums.' Everybody kicks dirt in the Sox faces. At some point Jerry has to have some pride (no he doesn't; he has the all important buck nestled in his wallet. I know we're immune to losing now. It's changed me as a Sox fan. First season some weird part of my brain wants us to lose now. Thanks Sox (sarcasm) for changing me for the worst. It truly is stealing money from the fans only because the one attraction, the food in the park, is expensive, not cheap. Boo White Sox. Boo.

Vaughn and Sheets are so mediocre to lousy. How could the Sox devote so much time to both without dumping them? Boy they stink as they say. Vaughn seems like a frustrated batter so often. I have a gut feeling he's a good worker and good guy. Just trade him for his own benefit. Geez he is such a lousy hitter.

We can't get swept by another team at home can we? Sox rally hats? This is bizarre.

TA as catcher? Well, now we get C Chuck Robinson in CF and hitting third
I still think he should be a catcher. He reminds me of Manny Sanguillen and he has a good arm. Sanguillen was 6-0; Anderson 6-1. Anderson was not a reliable SS. Oh yeah he made his share of spectacular plays but he was the Sox worst shortstop on making random errors since Alan Bannister. I would love for a scout to comment on my Tim Anderson to catcher demands. Just do it, Timmy.

We might win this one. Hey Blanco count the fans for us in the third inning. It shouldn't take long. I wanna hear if there are less than 1,500 or so. Thanx. I predict we win the day game. Royals can't possibly be interested in beating us one more. I'd let DeJong play if the trade is finalized if I were them. They may need some extra incentive and he might lift and pull 2-3 homers. Otherwise I think the Sox beat the Witts, 7-3.

Tanner Banks to Philly
Doesn't Tanner Banks stink? Looks like Sox got a guy who is not as short as Harry Chappas but not real tall or beefy in this lift and pull era. Will he stink or make it?
