  1. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:05 PM) this is the wave of the future, cheap, no hitting catchers whose defense may be questionable That's a pretty interesting sentence. Cheap catchers who can't hit or play defense. Mama, teach your kids to be catchers I guess. Make a ton of money for literally no production?
  2. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:02 PM) Do righty/lefty splits mean anything to you? Do you even understand what it means to platoon players? Navarro has always raked against lefties (for a catcher) and Avila has always raked against righties (again for a catcher). What more do you want. Or better yet, who do you want? Go take a look at the list of available catchers and come up with a name please. I want a reason to buy mlb.com again. My team has replaced Flowers/Soto with Avila/Navarro. To me, a reasonable consumer, that is a very very bad tradeoff. Yuck. Tell me the truth people. Would you rather have Flowers/Soto or Soto/Flowers than these two newcomers?
  3. I'm numb to caring about the shooters. All I want to know is if it was an act of terrorism and what group they are affiliated with. The coverage of the killers no longer interests me in these horrible cases of mass murder. I hope those 2 people enjoyed the lives they were given. Let's see they were born and raised to ultimately go into a place and kill more than a dozen innocent people. Nice lives. Bastards.
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) I didn't even realize he as a FA. Nice pick up. Catcher stabilized for next season. Have you looked at his stats? He played in 54 games and hit as badly as Avila did. They both did draw some walks though, improving the catcher spot in ability to take a walk I guess.
  5. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) I personally think this is a perfectly suitable platoon at catcher. I will not miss Flowers one bit. I can honestly say I'd rather have Flowers/Soto than this new platoon. How could anybody think Navarro/Avila is an upgrade? Ugh. At least nobody's going to criticize these two guys as they platoon. Flowers was a true whipping boy here. Hate to be so negative but Sox have asked for it the last 3 years. Lots of negative news.
  6. Good article. I liked reading that I'm not so unusual in your description of the fanbase. I am very very negative after the 3 losing seasons and you pointed out a lot of Sox fans are in similar moods. I'm really down on the team.
  7. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 06:55 AM) I agree with everything except maybe the Garcia thing, not sold on that yet. I love that we are doing something different and the off-season has barely begun. I want proof that we are not just acquiring guys (like Baltimore used to do) and will be out of the race in June. We need to make some moves to acquire real ballplayers. OK we dumped Flowers. Now we need a GOOD catcher and one who can hit .270 with 24 homers and throw out a runner or two.
  8. It's good to get rid of lousy players like Tyler, but ... Is there the slightest chance he might have emerged in his third full season of full playing time? I would guess no other team will make him a regular, so he's probably done. He seemed like a guy with some ability. He hit some mammoth bombs, but mostly he was a strikeout machine. I wonder if it's lack of ability or if he was uncoachable. What I'm trying to say is it seemed like there was a "chance" he could be a .255, 20 HR guy.
  9. Very sad. Bury your head in the sand if you think America is safe. You are in danger at work, at church, at the movies, at sporting events, walking down the street, sitting in your living room or on the porch. Better learn how to duck, as bullets might be coming at any time. Very very sad.
  10. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) 35 year old Zobrist to a 4 year $60+mm deal? Nah I'm good. Pass. Way too much money, but it's the going rate for the teams who spend.
  11. Beckham sure stunk as a White Sox. But he seemed like a likeable guy at least.
  12. QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Dec 2, 2015 -> 10:08 PM) Yes, Hillary is bad choice. Why do you not like Kasich? Haven't studied him at all yet. My bad, I guess.
  13. I'm not blaming Obama, but it sure seems to me we've had sooooooo many of these mass shootings during his 8 years. Gunmen kill many today in California in a building that helps the disabled??? Pretty soon we're going to be in a militaristic state everywhere we go. Nobody's gonna be allowed in any building, any sports arena, cause frankly at any time somebody might come in and blast away. It's just plain sickening. It's Obama's watch. Not saying it's his fault but wow, all the murders, all the destruction. Just think how many people are plotting mass murders as I write this. It has to be thousands of plots being planned right now, which is very very scary. Peace on earth good will toward men.
  14. Trump might as well win the presidency. It's our last-ditch hope for an economic recovery even though he is way too cocky for some old guy. I mean Hilly isn't going to fix the economy. Trump would maybe fix it and at the very least give us a lotta laughs.
  15. David Price 30 mill a year for seven years? Sox better adopt a new bargain basement strategy like the Royals did. Unless we're being lied to ... Sox can't afford that kind of jack, the new going price (no pun intended) for free agents. Raise those hot dog prices now, Red Sox. 20 bucks a hot dog sounds about right; 30 bucks for a beer should do it. Maybe a 17 dollar sale on nachos and 200 dollars to park. Might as well raise parking to a couple hundred per game.
  16. How good is Loyola? Is this one of the best teams in Illinois prep history? They destroyed Cinderella Marist. Any chance Br. Rice could have given them a game?
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 08:25 PM) It was three months and it was 3 years ago. Time flies. It seems like yesterday I got the swift kick in the pants to offseason oblivion.
  18. No brainer. Sign this guy. Sox need a 3B.
  19. The obvious choice was the coach from Memphis.
  20. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) Show me where people are saying this or demanding this. I'm talking about talk radio and stuff I've been hearing. That Mizzou should hire an African American coach and speculation the masses may freak if that does not happen. Because of the the incident with the football team boycotting that week. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) Greg, how do you not know what a citation is? I thought he meant there should be a citation issued against me for stating my opinion. I'm paranoid since the year I got suspended from the board six months.
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 07:03 AM) Citation needed. What does that mean? I won't go off on a tirade until I understand what u meant.
  22. QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 05:37 PM) This is a move I love seeing as a White Sox fan. Let Detoliet sign an older overpriced overrated NL SP from a team that stole theirs, a real AL SP Stud in Scherzer. If they had this $$$ to throw at a guy who to me is an AL #3 or #4 SP at his best, why not splurge and keep Max? Enjoy this deal Tigers fans. You're paying Verlander, Sanchez & Zimmerman a combined $66 million to pitch in 2016. Their 2 best SPs may end up being Norris and Boyd, 2 guys that don't combine for $2 million in 2016! If the Tigers want to add that 2nd #2 Tier Free Agent SP like Cueto, be my guest. Maybe they can spend $90 million a year on 4 overrated starting pitchers that best fit in the National League? I agree. However, with this new explosion in $$$ going to free agents, makes you wonder if the Sox are hoarding $$$s. How can some teams afford to pay these outlandish contracts? Just makes you wonder if the Sox and all teams still would make money with 200 to 300 million dollar payrolls. I mean before too long somebody's gonna have a billion dollar payroll. This salary escalation is showing no signs of stopping.
  23. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 10:10 AM) So who do you suggest the Sox should have picked up that's actually available? It's not like the league is full of catchers that can hit and play defense. I have no idea. I'm not Hahn/Kenny. I'm just saying expect a lot of outs when this guy steps to the plate. I realize baseball is full of horrible hitters nowadays. Not completely hating, just saying Avila is a joke of a hitter, though I'll give him credit for drawing some walks.
  24. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 04:24 AM) The Sox have been banking on the emergence of Flowers since the Sox parted ways with AJ and handed the full time catching duties to Flowers. Flowers wouldn't need a platoon partner if he could hit. We better hope beyond hope Flowers can hit cause Avila is hopelessly bad at the plate. He draws a few walks. Big deal. He cannot hit. Arguably even worse than Tyler.
