  1. The way the defense was playing, Saladino with a smart at bat. Not enough of that in baseball today.
  2. I didn't want to start a new, negative thread but I got to thinking that this may be my least favorite White Sox season in the last 20 years. Do you guys agree? Has it been that bad for you? Sox got swept in the opening series and played generally bad baseball all year. Except for Saladino's quick start and Trayce's performance there's been nothing good to happen offensively. The new guys Melky and LaRoche were so bad right out of the gate it really made me mad. The defense and baserunning was so bad most of the season, not to mention the awful decisions by the first and third base coaches that it truly made this my least favorite season in 20 years. Now the only way to cap it off and make it truly abysmal? Stagger in and continue playing like total s*** against the divisional teams this final month. A 10-20 record the final month would be icing on the cake and par for the course. Do u all agree with me about how much this team blows and has been so so painful to follow more than other Sox teams?
  3. QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 04:43 AM) And like I said, more power to you.. but soon the most important thing that will happen on Sundays for me is having the right fantasy football lineup set and watching the Dolphins hoping they finally get their s*** together.. Life is short, believe what you want to believe and do what you want to do, as long as youre happy I couldn't give two f***s about what you believe in I will. I just tried to be nice after your insulting statement: "it doesn't exist but if it helps you get through your day then more power to you.. I don't know how we got here or why we are here, but I have more important things to think about and deal with in my short time on this earth and id rather not waste it believing there's some mystical being that I need to follow his rules or I go to a bad place when I die.." I also have important things to do, believe me.
  4. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 27, 2015 -> 01:49 PM) At this point, if you're rooting for the best pick available or a protected pick, just root for 5th in the division. Division games are 80% of the schedule after this week. Don't have to "root" for fifth in division. Those losses will take care of themselves. Sox aren't going to suddenly play well in divisional games the final four weeks. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 04:11 AM) 10-15 in the final 25 division games. 4-4 against the Yankees and A's. Win tomorrow. 75-87. 9th pick. I think they could go 7-15 in the division games and 2-6 vs the Yankees and A's. Where would that put them closing out the season 9-21?
  5. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 03:56 AM) Melky competes and gives effort start in and out as well. Perhaps Danks isn't the biggest issue on the team, I suppose some of my picking on him was because I was replying to you, but Melky isn't the biggest problem either. Melky is really a bad baseball player any way u slice it. He's another guy who should be a utility player. Sox roster is full of those guys.
  6. Where do the Sox rank if you pencil in a minimum of 1-5 in the final six versus KC? Sox figure to go 0-6 or 1-5 vs KC. I think we have the worst team in the league to tell you the truth and it will probably come to fruition with our record in September.
  7. QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 03:17 AM) I would say this is completely false as there have been plenty of times where a tragedy has happened and the response has been that was gods plan for them.. I lost twins to a miscarriage 2 years ago, I had people tell me they were in a better place now and that god has a plan.. I would rather have my two kids I never got to meet than to be subjected to whatever gods plan was.. Of course, this is just one personal example but its absolutely something that has been said before.. I don't believe in god, I am not an atheist, I am a realist.. To me believing in god is like believing in magic or aliens.. it doesn't exist but if it helps you get through your day then more power to you.. I don't know how we got here or why we are here, but I have more important things to think about and deal with in my short time on this earth and id rather not waste it believing there's some mystical being that I need to follow his rules or I go to a bad place when I die.. Sorry about the loss of your twins. Truly sorry. I don't know why people would tell you that, but I would just say I'm sorry and ask if you needed anything. You said: "I have more important things to think about and deal with in my short time on this earth and id rather not waste it believing there's some mystical being that I need to follow his rules or I go to a bad place when I die." That's cool. That's your prerogative. In my case, I also have "more important" things to do than go to church on Sunday as I'm pretty much tied to my job as most workers are nowadays. But in my case the best hour I spend all week is the one I get to spend in church every Sunday; sometimes I go during the week as well, but not that often. I find it inspiring to see a packed church and enjoy inspirational music and readings with all these people praising God. I think it's great. I don't think I'm "wasting" precious time "believing there's some mystical being." I know where you are coming from though. My family members are the same way. They wouldn't be caught dead wasting an hour of their weeks at Mass. They will go on Xmas Eve though which is always nice. I don't push it on them but I do enjoy my time spent in church and don't think I'm wasting my hour.
  8. Is this a wraparound four game series where we can get swept? Or just three losses? Aren't we getting close to season-worst in terms of games below .500?? Good job Robin. Good job Coop. Good job hitting coach; I won't dignify using your name cause I forgot it.
  9. Geez, what is Sanchez doing there? Guessing fastball and waving at two balls in the dirt? Ridiculously bad at bat. Sox lose again. Wretched baseball team. Horrid season.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 03:51 AM) Eaton walked to bring tying run to the plate and you would have never known by his tone Fair nuff. But he went wild on Saladino's hit.
  11. Nice hit Abreu! Not to be an utter dick, but the rally stops here, right now. (good job, Abreu though).
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 03:44 AM) Feel free to show the slightest bit of excitement Chuck. How come u guys don't like Swirsk? Glad Saladino got that hit. He'd been struggling.
  13. Eaton got lucky there. The ump should have rung him on that letters high strike. It wasn't a ball. Sox need some heroics like a rare long ball.
  14. QUOTE (TRU @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 01:20 AM) When someone tries to sell me that a child getting murdered was "gods plan" for them, that's about enough for me to turn my head at that nonsense. Whoever says that has an incorrect stance on the matter. Nobody ever says that. God is the rock that helps people through those tragedies. He's going nowhere except to be a steadfast rock for people. Someone has told you a death of a kid is God's plan? When? Where? QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 01:33 AM) Religion has simply been an attempt to control the middle class and poor throughout history and keep them relatively passive/obedient. I don't know about that. Like I was saying, some ultra intelligent people (JIMMY CARTER) believe in the whole entire shebang. God as master of the universe; sitting on a throne, etc. You can't deny some INTELLIGENT people believe and are not believing to be controlled.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 08:28 PM) Please just stop. The police officer had 2 young kids and a wife. Yes I'm upset.
  16. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 08:45 PM) If anyone on this team is a "big-time problem", it's John Danks, not Melky. Cmon. I can start listing guys WAY worse than Danks on this team. Danks has at least competed and given effort start in and out. Some of these everyday players are stealing money (again) this season.
  17. QUOTE (harkness @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 01:36 AM) Chuck is a nice guy.. But all those people earlier this year praising his skill.. I'm not sure what you are smoking but its some good stuff. Some of you guys expect a lot out of your announcers. I like Swirsk tonight. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 02:06 AM) Stone does seem awfully sarcastic Just now he seemed to be enjoying telling that story to Swirsk. Seemed like he was OK with him. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Aug 30, 2015 -> 03:26 AM) No he won't. Mark Robin seems like an outstanding guy. He has to know the team has no chance with him in charge. If he is manager in April and loses the first 3 vs. KC again (which will happen, unless it's Detroit or Cleveland or Minnie we open with this time and lose 3 to them) it'll be the same ol s***ty season starting all over again. I think he'll agree to step down. He knows his teams are disgracefully bad and have no chance again vs. the Central Division teams.
  18. Robin has pride. He'll resign after this season. You can't save your job directing a team this s***ty. Bye Robin. You tried but the team is one of the worst in baseball again with a relatively decent payroll. Bye bye.
  19. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 09:28 PM) It's all ridiculous mantras and pointless rituals given way too much supernatural qualities. Catholics believe Jesus is actually present in the communion wafer and the wine, instead of just treating it as symbolism like it should be. But we make a big deal out of the fact it is real, not symbolism. In fact it is the whole reason we have Catholicism and Mass.
  20. On a police related note, some lowlife piece of s*** gunned down a police officer Friday night while he was walking out of a gas station's convenience store in Texas. This is unacceptable as a society ... again. I would think we are going to look back at 2015 as the year things started to spiral out of control violence wise and never ever get better. The poor kids being brought into this violent pathetic world. http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/29/us/texas-she...tion/index.html
  21. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 07:01 PM) I don't think anybody on this Earth has any actual concept of God. So I doubt any form of religion would even come close to getting it right, if there is a God. Christians, especially in the south, basically go against the basic tenets of their religious beliefs by the way they treat people who aren't like them. Jesus would accept everyone, southern Christians wouldn't dare. Living down here, you'd think Obama, Caitlyn Jenner and any openly gay person were the most evil people on the planet. It makes me sick. I was raised Catholic, I realized it was a joke when I was 13. I work at a global Catholic television network, good job security. Why did you realize it was a "joke" at 13. I don't think it's a joke at all. I believe in Communion and most things in the Catholic faith.
  22. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 01:20 PM) I find Jimmy John's boring...there is really nothing unique about their sandwiches at all. You can go to ANY grocery store and make a Jimmy John's sub. Potbelly, Snarf's, places like that...you can't just replicate their food at home without really trying. I agree. Jimmy John's is not a great sandwich.
  23. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 04:53 PM) Vegas certainly isn't buying into this Cubs team. Odds to win the series are worse now than they were before the season started. That's good news then. Think of all the Chicagoans out in Vegas betting 1000 or so bucks on the Cubs winning it all. Vegas knows so I'm glad we're safe this first postseason of their upcoming dominance. No Cub title this year!
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 05:10 PM) Someone wil be glad to take Laroche. He has a good hitting history before 2015 and has a gold glove defense. We took a chance on him and I am sure someone else would too. Now saying that if we keep him that's fine with me too No team will take on LaRoche, elrockin. There's age to consider and it's obvious he's done. There's no reason to give him 500 at bats and get about 10 home runs. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) Going to be lots of disappointed people in here. Do you know what team you root for? They aren't doing a full rebuild. Not happening. They will add somehow in the offseason, roll with great pitching, and try to win in 2016. Just the way this org does things. Afraid you are right. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 06:35 PM) I'm really surprised by the size of the Melky Cabrera apologist society. He didn't strike me as the type of player so many would make excuses for. Excellent post. Melky is a big-time problem. Got to somehow get rid of him.
  25. QUOTE (daa84 @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) In general, I try to stay pretty level headed on this board, but I Gotta get this off my chest..... . If you root for the sox and also like to watch the Cubs, that's cool. Certainly not gonna criticize anyone for that. I get that they are exciting and good and are a Chicago team. I have tons of friends and in-laws that are Cubs fans, and plenty who root for both. Not everyone gets caught up in the Cubs vs sox stuff, and I get that. However, for a select segment of sox fans, rooting against the Cubs is part of being a sox fan. Growing up in the SW burbs, I fall into this category. And I'll be goddamned if I'm gonna catch flack for hating on the Cubs. Do the Cubs have great young talent and a super bright future with a great front office? Of course they do. But why do I have to all of a sudden change my feelings for that team based on their success? Rooting against them is part of my identity as a sports fan, just as they have fans who will root against the sox for their lifetime. If you wanna hate on me and b**** at me for that, I guess that's your right. You can think it's childish, but it's my opinion (and part of my sports ethos) that rivalries in sports are a great thing. And I would never expect a Michigan man to root for the Buckeyes, an Midshipman to root for the Cadets, etc. Cubs vs sox may not be as big of a rivalry as those others, but if you don't think the rivalry exists, you clearly didn't grow up in the same neighborhoods as I did. And when it comes to me hating on the Cubs, I'm gonna keep watching and hoping they lose every single goddamn day. I am getting sick and tired of people (and not just on this board) trying to tell me who I can and can't root for and why. Great post. It sucks that we blew our 10 year window. Sox should have built on the WS title not sucked after winning it all. Now the Cubs finally have caught the sox and it could get really ugly the next 10 years. Sox appear to be all pitching, nothing else. Cubs look like they are going to dominate in the Bryant era. Very very sad. f*** the Cubs but they are probably gonna win 2-3 WS and we have a lot of work to do to be a WC contender again. Sox seem very far off. f*** the Cubs though. Hope they lose early in playoffs. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 08:57 PM) Because the White Sox are really, really bad. The Cubs are over 20 games over .500. What team are you watching?! Yep. They are way way better. I think their manager has helped them, too. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Aug 28, 2015 -> 11:14 PM) The national media thinks of us as a bunch of Cub hating, umpire attacking losers who become relevant once a decade. That probably is true. The White Sox are recognized more for wearing shorts in 76 and attacking the ump than the 05 title. That turned out to be a glorious fluke if you will. So glad Oz and the boys took advantage that year and won it all. If they "only" made the ALDS or the WS only to lose that woulda sucked as it turned out. Cause now the Cubs appear primed to steal a couple WS minimum.
