  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) My girl has been on and off birth control for the last couple months and changed from very relaxed to up my ass. I am writing it off as just hormonal s*** but I'm annoyed but we've been fighting more than I'd like. I got yelled at for going to the bar and not telling her last week. I sent her a picture of my buddy when we were at the bar and she's like "why didn't you tell me you were there?" And it didn't end there. Birth control is just a bag of pros and cons. I am slow, but why is she off birth control? Did she tell you to use condoms? I think if she's getting on your case, that's a big time red flag. But then in another post you said she cleans your place all the time. That is pretty cool. So I'm torn.
  2. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 13, 2015 -> 11:48 PM) I loved Coopers quote and I love every bit of how Buehrle pitched. He is one of my all time favorite pitchers to watch for the way he did things. Maybe that is just something that stat people can't appreciate but he was awesome to watch pitch. He was and is extremely unique on the mound. Amen! Of course he'll deserve the Hall but he won't get in. The Hall of Fame will be ignoring starting pitchers in the future. Not enough wins over a long enough period of time because of injuries and starters getting pulled early too. Mark Buehrle won't have to feel badly for not getting the honor he deserves. Cause no starters will be getting in the Hall. Their numbers just won't compare to the golden oldie guys who defined the high high standard of hall of Fame pitcher. But is Mark a Hall of Famer? Of course.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 07:53 PM) You are one of my favorite posters. Not kidding. If nothing else, you keep it interesting around here. Thanks. I hope all these moves the Sox made all work out. It does seem like there are a lot of good players on the South Side at this time.
  4. Soxtalk is a true delight. I think I'm the best poster. Kidding.
  5. QUOTE (Douglas Rome @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) for some reason when I think of Jordan Danks, I think of Jimmy Landis. About the same build. Jimmy was the better hitter but not by much. When I think of Viviedo I think of thick between the ears, no basis for fact, but I suspect his IQ is not very high. thanks, douglas I think my Brian Anderson comparison is the true one. Wasn't Jim Landis a damn good hitter/player? I don't know about Viciedo being dumb. That's a new one. It's pretty annoying that he's not more selective at the plate. When he connects he hits them so hard and far, but he rarely connects.
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 5, 2015 -> 08:19 PM) Yes, but was all on him? i'm looking at the whole career not just a couple of years. You can look at the few, if you wish. I'm partially jaded in that he was a fun person the few times I had the chance to hang out with him and most everyone likes him as a person. Everyone can have their own opinion, I just happen to think that he did an awful lot for this team and was a key component in the success of the team for a number of years. He's like most ballplayers in that he's all about the buck. Big deal. It ended badly. You can't tell me, though, that Ozzie Guillen doesn't care about Jerry and the White Sox. I mean sure Guillen is a spoiled-rotten ex-ballplayer. But in the big picture, he bleeds White Sox black. You can't convince me otherwise of that. The bottom line is it was a Kenny-Ozzie war and Kenny won the war. Kenny won decisively cause Ozzie doesn't figure to manage ever again. Will he work in baseball again in any capacity?? Not so sure except in broadcasting. Kenny does deserve credit, for lauding Ozzie publicly in the press all the time, when he clearly could rub it in after winning the war. As much as I worship Ozzie, I think if he'd have won the war, he'd probably still be needling Kenny in the press.
  7. This didn't surprise me about Danks. Doesn't look like he's going to make it. I hope some lousy team gives him a chance to play every day one season to see if he's a major leaguer or just Brian Anderson.
  8. I would have passed on Melky and signed Ioki. And I'd sign one more great starter like Shields. We're going to be good though on paper with Sale, Smardj, Q and Danks. Who's our fifth starter?

I still can't believe the lousy Christmas I had and how selfish the people I was with in Chicago happened to be. Two of the three days I was home I had to hear and try to calm down my grown sister who was screaming at the top of her lungs. And I still can't believe I heard one of my close relatives scream "Merry f***ing Christmas" at my mom as they settled their issues. I thought only these dysfunctional families appeared on Springer and only appeared on there to earn a buck. My family is suburbia all the way (after they moved from Mt. Greenwood many moonsa ago), with my close relatives all making big bucks and my mom sitting on a fortune (knock on wood for her, you could always lose your fortune). I mean, WTF. I hadn't been in Chicago in a year and I'm still shaking my head over the behavior I witnessed. I'll get over it, but geezus. Happy f***ing New Year (I had to say it before my relative did, I guess). Glad I'm in my safe haven in Kansas where I worked and went to church twice today (once during day for Holy Day) and midnight celebration.
  10. The pressure definitely is on Robin/Coop this year. With the improved roster (no excuses, these new bullpen pieces should be so much better than last year) I'm sure Soxtalk will be aflame against Robin if the Sox fall out of contention early. This team has bonafide stars in Sale, Abreu, Melky and our new closer. The lineup is good enough to contend (on paper), the starting pitching is definitely good enough to contend (on paper), the bullpen is good enough to contend (on paper). The only huge weakness remains defense. If the Sox stink after all these moves, I would think Hahn would be very pissed at Robin (assuming he thinks managers mean anything).
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 10:21 PM) ^Least shocking post ever. At least I'm not going into all the reasons I love Ozzie, etc., and inflaming people because as some know, I have many reasons I still love ozzer-oo.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 07:56 PM) Welcome to the life of a cop. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Or the life of a teacher, or the life of a lawyer, or the life of a ....
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 31, 2014 -> 05:15 PM) Ventura in a landslide. It's really not even close. I beg to differ.
  14. After reading every word of that article, I am now a big fan of Robin and Kenny Williams. Read their words closely. They praise Ozzie incessantly. Class acts of them to praise Ozzie. I wonder if Maddon would bring in Ozzie as Cubs 3B coach or if he has a problem with Ozzie. I think Robin would do it but can't because of his mouth. Just the chance he might do even one interview is too risky. His words obviously would come out as second-guessing Robin even if he didn't mean that. 3B coaches rarely get interviewed once the season starts, but it'd happen with Ozzie occasionally and one interview would be too many. I loved Ozzie's quotes about the Marlins ruining his career. It's amazing how that owner quickly soured on Oz. Man, when Ozzie made those comments about the owner, that was that. I do worship Ozzie and I say that knowing if I ever met him, he might offfend me or get in my face. He's that unpredictable.
  15. No. It should be shelved forever. The man managed the White Sox to a WS title for gawd sakes. Sometimes I think people think that's an easy accomplishment on the South Side. It's almost impossible, folks, and he did it!
  16. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 07:35 PM) The only "crack" going on here is you cracking me up by continuing to suggest the location at 35th and Shields is the "best spot" for this franchise. I don't know why you keep saying this. It. Is. Not. The decades of poor attendance records proves that beyond a doubt. Not to mention, but the current location wasn't even in the current ownership's top three choices back in the 80s when they were looking for a place to build the new park. As has been mentioned ad nauseum, the area lacks the surrounding nightlife options that so many other ballparks have, and there remains a carryover stigma from many years ago that the area around the ballpark isn't the safest. You combine those two considerable factors, and you can have the best rail service, the most amazing traffic patterns, and all the parking in the world, and it won't matter. As long as the destination itself remains as it is today - uninspiring with no attractions - no one is going to go there unless there is a bona fide winner on the field. That hardly defines the current location as the "best spot" for the Sox. Good post. It's time for suburbia, folks. Build a palace. We're talking Jerry Jones/Dallas Cowboys-like palace. Obviously will never happen, but I thought I'd throw that out there. Sox will never move out of the Cell cause it will take government money to build the new stadium and that will never be approved again. They'll let the Sox move next time.
  17. I think his bullpen management was great. He would pick a closer and go with them until it was obvious they had to be replaced. Not crazy of all the situational lefty/righty crap, but it's not Robin. All managers do it way too early in games. I was incensed that game he ran out of pitchers. Hope that never happens again. But Robin's bullpen management was fine. He had one of the worst collection of pitchers to work with, expecially the few lefty hacks he was provided.
  18. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) His ZIPS went from like 9 WAR over the next 3 years (2014-17) to like 4 because of his injury last year. People need to give this guy a chance to string together 500 or more PA in a season. I think he's going to impress this year. He's a hard worker. If he's a hard worker that puts me even more in his corner. I always despised Rios cause I perceived him as a loafer.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 22, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) Andrew Marchand ‏@AndrewMarchand 16m16 minutes ago The Yankees will play for the education for the son of the slain NYPD officers http://es.pn/13RUpT5 via @ESPNNewYork Such a classy gesture. This is important stuff to have one's education paid for when dad is gone.

I haven't followed Ferguson in weeks. Are the protests over? Back to normal completely?
  21. I was the lowest seeded team in playoffs and made the championship game only to get massacred something like 160 to 85. Aaron Rodgers did me no favors the last 2 weeks of the season. Somehow I won in the semis despite his pedestrian numbers. He stunk last week and did me no good in the final. I'm sure the favored teams that lost to me in rounds one and two of the playoffs are very pissed. I win second place money; big deal.
  22. Is Kevin Love a superstar? Are the Cavs a serious threat to winning it all? I am thinking no, and no.
  23. What do you think of the state of college basketball, specifically Kentucky with the 9 McDonald's All-Americans? What are the odds UK wins it all? I'd say probably 92 percent, the other 8 percent the field. Living in a pro town as many of you do (Chicago) do you think college basketball is a total joke now in this era of one and done? I'm starting to think college basketball is a very weak feeder system to the big, bad, all-everything NBA. For example, I can almost guarantee you Cliff Alexander and Kelly Oubre are one and done at Kansas, yet as freshmen they are contributing like freshmen have done throughout history, meaning, not very much. Wiggins last year also exhibited traits of a freshman and by no means was dominant. Even Durant won one NCAA tournament game at Texas before moving on after his freshman season. Do you think college basketball has become very passe (shouldn't we just crown Kentucky and get it over with?) or do you think the college game is outstanding basketball? My take is this one and done thing has not helped the college game much and that currently when you talk about basketball you are only talking about the NBA, whereas you talk football and college is equally entertaining to the NFL.

Merry Christmas. Happy Holidays. Happy New Year. I really think it's the best time of year WHEN Chicago and KC area have the weather we had this Christmas. A little snow flurry shower would be nice, but you can't beat a bright sunny 45 to 50 degree day so travelers are fine and it's not so damn cold. Kudos to Chicago weather on Christmas Day. Merry Xmas.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 27, 2014 -> 05:39 AM) She absolutely could have some mental issues, the hard part will be to get her to admit it and want to do anything about it. At least the kids are out of the house. Yeah, it would be very difficult to get her to admit it. Very sad. To me, family life is pretty simple. a.) At all times, put yourself in the shoes of other people and b.) treat people with respect. You can't just say anything because you are familiar with people. Words are hurtful. Why wouldn't her daughter in law be hurt deeply by the words/actions? In this instance, baby is crying, parents have made conscious decision to let baby cry. Baby is not in imminent danger. Baby is not being abused. These two modern parents are raising child the way they want. Mother in law has no power in such situation nor should she. If mother in law doesn't like it, as long as baby is in no danger, remove yourself from the situation. I just wondered if I was out of line finally telling her to "knock it off."
