It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
I will assert all day long that Renteria would have led the team to a stronger 2021 than TLR. I'm not sure there is anything that could change my mind on that.

- Cleveland claims Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez
Does that reset? I thought that went away (and stayed with the player) once he was traded.- Cleveland claims Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez
I wonder how common this sentiment is: https://www.cleveland.com/tribe/2019/03/ichiro-once-said-hed-punch-himself-in-the-face-if-he-ever-lied-about-wanting-to-go-to-cleveland.html- Fire Rick Hahn
I almost miss Rick Hahn.- Cleveland claims Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez
Yeah somehow Hahn undoubtedly won this trade.- It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
From the press release: Also from the press release: These two quotes remind me of my favorite Gilmore Girls quote of all time: (note: how many times can you all recall someone quoting Gilmore Girls on this board... in context?)- It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
Maybe instead of "kind of," the better choice of words would have been "almost." There's a 99% chance that he's now peaked professionally. Starting today, he's going to be on a downward trajectory. Of course, he's now gone further than 99% of the rest of baseball in terms of front-office roles... but these next few years are going to be rough for him. Again, I ALMOST (edited from "kind of") feel bad for him.- It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
Yeah I kind of feel bad for Getz. Unless he is able to somehow overcome the organizational ineptitude, he's 100% set up to fail. That said.... go Brewers?- Looking for any positives
Hey - that's a positive! At least, maybe!- It’s official - Getz named SVP & GM
Yes. JR is smart enough to understand he only needs to pay for 1 "yes" man. No need to pay 2 people to say "yes" to him separately.- Looking for any positives
As open as ever.- After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP
Assuming they are still the White Sox, yes.- 8/30 GAMETHREAD Gibson v. Cease
I wonder if the offense is energized by the Clevinger DFA. "If you play well, it might not be too late yet to get out of this place!"- Fire Chris Getz
Maybe. At least we all know they’ll suck, so there won’t be any disappointment to deal with.- Sox place Clevinger on waivers
For the Angels, they realized they're hosed, so they're trying to dump salary to get under the Luxury Tax threshold. If they can get under that threshold, their compensation for losing Ohtani as a FA will go from a post-4th pick to a post-2nd pick. I believe someone else posted that info here earlier in the thread (or in the Gio / Lopez thread), so give credit there if the above information is accurate.- 8/29 White Sox at Orioles. 6:05, NBCSN/WMVP1000
Huh. It's almost as if there should be some teams that players play on before they get to the big leagues. On those teams, you can have players learn (and be taught) how to baseball. Maybe our new GM / head of Baseball Ops can bring something like that to life.- Update: 3 (2) fans injured by bullet in Guaranteed Rate field (split from game thread, police investigation underway)
The existence of David Wells?- After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP
Works for RF and 2B. Why not GM?- After an exhaustive search, Getz named GM/VP
Been a Sox fan since the '84 season when my dad took me to a game when I was less than 2 months old. My first-ever gift was a Sox mini bat given to me by a relative. This move would make me reconsider my allegiance. Logically, I want to bail. Emotionally, I know I can't.- GT 8/28: SOX @ BAL, 6:05 pm, If a team wins two in a row . . .
Exactly.- Reinsdorf considers moving White Sox out of Guaranteed Rate Field or selling team
Only if Fred McGriff is manager- Merkin with bittersweet KW/RH memories
No, but it's on my list for one of these next times I head over there. (I haven't been back for work since COVID, but had been going to Nagoya 3~4 times a year for a decade or so) - Cleveland claims Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez
