QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) I tried Googling this, no luck... anyone know where I could find a list of what NL teams the Sox have played, and how many times? Are there any NL teams we haven't played yet? http://www.baseball-reference.com/games/head2head.shtml

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 02:22 PM) I might have to make a trip to DC. Ya i'm definitely gonna be down there for that series. I'll prolly take a few days off before that and head out to Pittsburgh first too. Would have liked to play the Mets due to being able to get tix and seeing them, but I'd rather trade the win potential with PIT/WSH

I am however, opposed to this: The University has very close ties the Seminole Nation and I feel if they felt 'The Chop' was degrading, they wouldn't be so supportive of the University's use of their namesake. -

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) If they ever try to change the Blackhawks I'll kill someone. It's meant to honor him. That's the thing. There are some groups who do support the use of their heritage, but there are also a lot more vocal groups who are against it. Being a Seminole and Chiefs fan, I hope they never change a thing. I do feel the PC crap of today just goes way over the top far too often. -

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 12:58 PM) Before I had a fresh install, when I had a lot of programs installed, it used to take forever to boot up and shut down. Granted XP did too, it always does when you're loaded with programs, but Vista was ridiculous. I really don't get the anti-Vista bandwagon either though. Then again I have a quad-core CPU and 8 GB of RAM so Vista has no problems with it. That's exactly what I have as well, so maybe the processor speed is why I've been fine.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) It's a memory hog, things hang up, it takes forever to load. Anything else? Havent had any problems so far, and it loads faster than XP did.

American Indians look to Supreme Court So the old issue of Native Americans suing the Redskins for an offensive name is back in the news again. Many teams have names that some groups (mostly Native Americans) find offensive. Redskins, Seminoles, Red Hawks, Chiefs, Indians, Fighting Sioux, Fighting Irish, etc... IIRC, North Dakota has actually already changed their name b/c of such a suit. Also, Cleveland has been using their famous Indian logo less and less in recent years. So I ask, what do you feel about professional/college teams using such nicknames/logos/mascots?

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 09:53 AM) I hated it with a passion when I got it on a new computer, a year or two ago. It was utter garbage. Fortunately, they've fixed a lot, but more importantly, I followed about a dozen steps recommended out there on some MS Windows user sites to make it work better. Thats what I hear people say, but honestly, I've been using it now for a couple months and I really don't see what the big deal is.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 15, 2009 -> 01:13 AM) President Obama calls Kanye West a jackass. lol at the comments from Fox viewers too, along the lines of "finally we agree on something" http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/09/15...e-west-jackass/ Good for him. How long before Kanye says that Barack Obama hates black people now???

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 05:44 PM) I can totally see why everyone hated Vista. Wow. Meh, it came on my new computer and I havent really hated it yet.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 04:28 PM) He threw a shutout yesterday; Now 5-0. Does anybody know if Kenny tried to get Pedro, or was it a matter of choosing Bartolo over Pedro? Pedro wasn't even healthy is April IIRC

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 03:50 PM) I would disagree with your assertion. The right wing fringe is getting hours of televised publicity constantly, in the form of teabaggers and town hall disruptors. Although it isn't all sympathetic, it certainly creates the impression that there is a sizable population doing this, even though it is most certainly fringe elements. Look at the some of the things that they have manage to win in the past few weeks, such as removing end of life care, ending the public option (most likely), denying health-care to illegal immigrants (how they plan on doing this without a national ID program, I don't know), Van Jones resigning. Now compare that to the massive world wide Iraq protests, how much coverage they got, and what impact they had. Van Jones caused his own resignation.

QUOTE (b-Rye @ Sep 13, 2009 -> 11:55 PM) Probably not but we need a power/high avg hitter who can drive in 100+ runs. That's another hole in this team. Vlad Guerrero/Abreau/Matsui will all be free agents next year too. No, no, and no thank you.

Kinda pathetic to be so proud of pulling off a douchey move, actually.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 12:43 PM) It's not just the uninsured who are unhappy with their current health care situation. It's an awful lot of the insured too. And it would be even more if they actually had an understanding of how much of their salary was actually going to pay for health care costs under the current system as well. If you believe that salaries will rise then you're going to be sorely mistaken.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) Injuries would have forced Swisher to become more of a regular player had we kept him, but that means we wouldn't have picked up Pods, and Pods' bat has helped us a ton. I can't say I'd expect Swisher to do the same since Pods makes contact with the baseball and finds holes while Swisher stands there like an asshole. Not that I disagree, but i've never seen/heard it put that way. Hahaha

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) So, Charlotte's season is over, but I was thinking, their rotation next year should be interesting to watch. Assuming Freddy gets the #5 slot, which I think is likely, and that they like Hudson as a starter (also likely), it would probably look something like this... Hudson/Torres (I figure one of them is in the pen in Chicago, and Torres may go away) Ely Shirek Omogrosso Harrell If Omogrosso is converted to a reliever, which seems possible, then Matt Long or some reclamation project slides in there. Could be a pretty good AAA rotation right there. They could give Justin Cassell another look too. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) to be fair... it's in wite's sig. i think that was the reference he was trying to make. I saw that. But it's also a trend.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 11, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) Definitely worse than booing, yes, IMO. But not as bad as shouting down the President and calling him a liar. The booing thing, and the stupid one-sided uber appluase thing, are both annoying and very prevalent on both sides. It is? But how is walking out worse than booing? If anything it's a passive way of disagreeing. Of course he should have just sat his ass down and shut up like an adult rather than walk out, but IMO it is no way worse than audibly booing.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) They're playing a 5 game series. Those league championships matter to the fans of the teams. It is insulting to me and everyone who lives in a minor league town to say it doesn't matter. If you want to be a elitist a$$hole about it, then fine. But I'm proud of my minor league team and their 92 wins, I don't live in Chicago or in a major city. But I'm damn sure happy to pay less than $1,000 a year to take in 70 baseball games, with the possibility of comped tickets to more games if they reach the playoffs. And I'm certainly proud to see all 13 of those championship flags flying in the breeze beyond the outfield walls. *Sigh* I'll guess I'll go repeat myself once again. I know they matter to the fans, and for the 8th time i never said it did not matter. In no way was I being "an elitist asshole" (look who's calling people names now by the way). I was simply saying it like it is. And i'll reiterate; I grew up in an AHL city and we were often pilfered by the NHL team. So I know what it's like. Sometimes it sucks. But it's just the way the game is. Just last year, for example, the Pens sent down Miro Satan to Wilkes Barre half way through the year so they didn't lose him and although he did not play, the Bruins placed Milan Lucic on Providence's playoff roster to get him experience if they got knocked out early. Point being, I know how much it matters to fans of those minor league cities. I do. And I would have loved to win one when we made the playoffs. I'd routinely spend $500 a year at games. But that still doesn't make it wrong though. And I'm willing to bet if it was Peavy making a rehab start for our top remaining farm club as we were in a playoff hunt hoping to get him back no one (or very few) would say a word about it Like it or not, it really isn't. If the Red Sox felt this was best for Dice-K and thus best for the Red Sox, they have every right to do what they want with him. But, if you'd rather think Epstein & Co. were sitting around a table a few days ago and said to themselves "What could we do to be real assholes? Oh, I know, let's start Dice-K in the A ball playoff game!", then by all means go think that. It's just not practical. If the Red Sox honestly thought that was best for their club, who am I, or you, or anyone, to tell them how to run their team? QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 05:32 PM) You watch too much ESPN if you think the Red Sox are not capable of being classless. You like putting words in people's mouths eh? Cuz I never said that. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 05:38 PM) The players on those teams care, you obviously haven't been to a minor league game and seen how much they care. If the minors are about development, then how does it help development to have to face someone like Matsuzaka in a playoff scenario in the Carolina League. Boston does not care about the White Sox players' development, just as the White Sox don't care about the Red Sox players' development. It's all about what is best for each individual ML franchise. It's just how it works.

Rockies board says it is a strained quad after he tried running out a bobbled ground ball to the 1B. No one can ever say Jose doesn't (didn't) care.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) I don’t think you could have contradicted yourself more if you made a conscious effort, ChiSox. What’s your point? That it is a b**** move, but it’s not a b**** move, because you say it isn’t a b**** move? Ok that's not at all like anything I said but whatever. I never said it was a b**** move. Ever. There are no contradictions anywhere in my post. So i don't really know what your point is or where you're getting that. They aren't even close to the same thing. Facing live hitters in an actual game situation is just a tad better than throwing BP to Papi. If it was the same thing, why do teams send guys down during the regular season? Didn't say they didn't matter. Not arguing it's uneven either. Even said earlier that it sucks. But it's the way of the game and the hierarchy. It's what happens. If the Red Sox feel this is the best for Dice K, and thus best for the Red Sox, so be it. Without the Red Sox there wouldnt be a Salem, pawtucket, or whoever. The timing sucks, but the Red Sox want to make sure he's ready as they prepare to bring him back and try to hold off the Rangers. You can't fault them for that. If it was a team like Arizona or the Mets then it is a totally different story. But the Sawx are still in it, and they're doing what they feel is the best for their team.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 03:49 PM) They're already being punished. I know I could certainly use the extra $3000 or so that we're paying a year in added health care costs for our current system compared with the rest of the world. Yup, that's how it's gonna work too. $3000 of extra spending money for everyone!!!
