QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) Overreact much? Honestly, unless you're a serious minor league lover, does anyone even know who won the Southern league title last year? How about the Kanny League? Who won it in 2007? 2006? Who won the 2001 International league title? The minor leagues are for player development. Wins and losses are a DISTANT second in order of importance. It's not going to damage these kids for life to have to face a ML caliber pitcher in a playoff series that quite honestly doesn't mean a thing. Ding ding ding. And before anyone says it, no I am not out of touch. I grew up with an AHL franchise that constantly got screwed over, so I'm aware of how much it sucks when it happens to you. But, the fact of the matter is that minor league franchises #1 purpose is to improve the major league parent club. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) Now, who’s being over the top, Jordan? I’m well aware of just how much minor league championships matter in the greater scheme of things, I’m simply making the case that it was a bit low on the Red Sox parts to use the 1st game of a playoff series involving twenty year olds kid, as a rehab start for a mid-30’s international superstar pitcher. The Red Sox AAA and AA teams are done. Who's next on the food chain? Well, that'd be High-A Salem. The Sawx want him to rejoin the rotation next week so they needed to see if he could get through a game with a 90-100 pitch workload (he was under 70 the last time out). This was the best move for the Boston Red Sox to evaluate where he was at. A side session or simulated game is not even comparable. Bottom line, is that it is not a b**** move and it's the way baseball operates. Does it suck sometimes? Of course, but it's reality. Teams do this whenever necessary. Imagine this situation: -We're 2 games back of Detroit -Peavy is where he's at right now -We don't send him down to Birmingham or wherever to get a rehab start b/c "it just isn't right" -We instead send him to a simulated game at extended ST -Peavy proceeds to get shelled in his first game back. Can you even imagine what kind of outcry this board would have?

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 10:43 AM) Detroit will be better than 9-15. Not if we go 6-0 against them. /half-green

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 03:41 PM) Rios and Swisher are young ball players in their prime. Dye is an aging, veteran who is having a miserable second-half. He just feels a need to bash Rios in one form or another in as many threads as possible, whether the thread concerns him or not.

QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 12:37 AM) I voted for "I hate the Beatles" on both polls. I guess I don't really "hate" them, but nothing else really fit. Not my type of music, prolly cuz I wasn't around then. Same thing. I definitely don't hate them, I just don't listen to them. If they are playing on the radio or in someone's car/house I don't care and wouldn't complain, but I wouldn't ever seek them out.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) That's not inverse proportion, its direct proportion. Ironic.

Terrible showing by the US. Great game by Donovan though. And Clark had a tremendous shot to give us the win. Some interesting results elsewhere as well, including weaklings Faroe Islands picking up a win and Liechtenstein a draw. Cameroon beat Gabon again to go ahead in their group. I really hope they advance. I'd love to see Eto'o, Song, Geremi, Makoun, M'bia et al in the WC. Serbia and Slovakia appear primed to go to their first ever WC. Meanwhile, Portugal, Turkey and Czech Republic are in a whole lotta trouble. In South America, Chile appears ready to advance for the first time in many years and Argentina has put themselves in a tough situation with their loss to Paraguay. Imagine if they did not qualify. That'd be strange having a WC without them there. Oh and did anyone see the finish to Saudi Arabia-Bahrain? Wow. Tied 1-1 in stoppage time, Bahrain appeared ready to advance (playoff with NZ to determine the WC spot) on away goals. Then SA scores about a minute and half into stoppage time. The Bahraini bench was shocked and the Saudi crowd (what was with the masks?) went nuts. Then a minute later with probably only seconds left, Bahrain wins a corner kick and heads the ball in to make it 2-2. The complete change in fortunes twice in less than 5 minutes was ridiculous. If Bahrain is able to beat NZ that would be there first appearance in the WC too. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I'm starting to think Peavy needs a rehab start. I get that it frustrates you, but let it go. This happens somewhat frequently, just since it's against one of our farm teams people are freaking out. Does it suck? Of course. And yes, it is not fair that they have to face someone of his caliber. However, things are rarely "fair" in the ranks of minor league baseball (or hockey). But, it is legal and Boston is not doing it just "to be dicks". Come on. In the world of Major League Baseball the ML team is #1 by the longest of measures. If that means having a player you want to help youre team in the playoffs make a rehab start that's what will happen. And if the regular seasons over, guess where/when they'll be making said start.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 01:58 PM) I'm with you on this one. Utterly ridiculous to point out sex scandals of one party only. It's an apolitical issue. Kinda like the tax thing isn't a dem issue, it just has more of them recently. It's a people issue.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 12:02 PM) And the Republican Sex Scandals Continue: *Yawn* Yep, it's only republicans. Sorry, keep on cheerleading.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 12:48 PM) In terms of history and how fans perceive the team, Indiana basketball would be the most dead-on comparison. I honestly can't think of any comparison other than the Yankees that makes any sense.

QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) How'd this work out? It was awesome. 11 hour drive kinda sucked but on the way out there we gained an hour back. Didn't realize Mich City was in CTZ. Went to the casino friday night (won $150), ND game on saturday and White Sox game sunday. The band at the casino was from the Southside and they played the Sox theme song from a couple years back at one point. ND experience was awesome. What a beautiful campus. Also very cool to see the Sox, even though they lost. Went to the Bullpen Sports bar for a few innings too, that was a fun time. Beer/food prices there were much better than what I expected. Got some free shots from a bartender cuz she felt bad about forgetting our bill for so long. Afterwards we walked around parts of Chicago and also Navy Pier. Had a local beer at the pier (Goos Island) that I thought was really good. Didn't get to spend a ton of time there but it seemed like a great city. The whole weekend it was just such a nice and refreshing experience to see people in White Sox gear. Totally not used to seeing that.

I drove out to South Bend from NY this weekend. I'm not a ND fan (Florida State) but my friends are and since it is ND and has all those traditions I went with them. I used to hate ND for many reasons, but after experiencing the game, the campus, the rituals leading up to the game, the stadium, and the aura surrounding it I got a new perspective. They have maintained pre-game traditions and rituals from the time of Knute Rockne and after witnessing it and being there I really gained a new respect for them. I'm not going to start rooting for them, but I will probably quit rooting for them to lose. That being said, I voted I hate how the media protrays them b/c that still is really annoying.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 07:34 PM) I still want MB pitching opening day next year. Not for strategic reasons, but entirely for emotional ones. Peavy can have MB's spot on opening day when he earns a place in my adoring heart. MB should be our #4 starter next year, but he should get his choice of Opening Day/Home Opener every year he remains with this ball club.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) Yeah I see it was a joke now, but who said its fine the other way around? Do you see me screaming about "ANTI-HEALTHERZ!!!!!!!!!!" or whatever? No, and you won't. And I love the "Typical" add-on there, which is doing the exact same thing. You apparently think I'm a "typical" liberal, which is particularly funny since I'm not a liberal at all. No I know you aren't a liberal. But calling posters out for that crap tends to only happen in to certain posters.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 05:12 PM) He's got a Mike Piazza like stance. Real old school. He looked very patient up there. That's it. When I saw him it looked soooo familiar but I couldn't quite place it.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) Oh come on - the Democrats? Idiots are idiots. Please. It's fine when posts are made like that the other way around though. Typical. Not to mention it was obviously a joke because of the way statements from the "other side" have gone.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 04:48 PM) CQ needs work hitting as much as anyone right now. More time off isnt going to help him. Well what's the status with his foot? Did that ever truly heal? Cuz with him and Dye right now it's brutal to watch. And at least with Q it could potentially be lingering effects from his foot.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) Swisher was getting paid a ton more than Kotsay, and is rumored to have a bad attitude. (probably wouldnt translate well to bench player.) Kotsay seems like a good guy, has a decent swing and understands his role. At this stage in his career Kotsay is what a 25th man realistically would/should be.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) He looks to be a good one. I'd really be fine with essentially shutting Quentin down and letting AJ and Flowers split catching/DH duties.

Terrible swing by Quentin. Lucky result.
