QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 22, 2013 -> 09:02 AM) Based on previous assessments, he should be ready for baseball around June 1st or so. Will be interesting to see what level they put him at. I could easily see them assigning him to Kanny and justifying it as "rehab" so as to spare Hawkins from a true demotion.

2012-2013 NCAA Basketball thread

UConn's getting 5th year transfer Lansah Kromah from GW. Don't really know much about him, but the Huskies should probably have one of the best back courts in the country -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 22, 2013 -> 12:08 AM) Yet Michael Johnson has an OPS nearly 100 points higher and I can't recall more than a few mentions of him. Probably because he is 24 years old and in his second year at Low-A

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 21, 2013 -> 11:55 AM) Well we're all just giving our ideal opinions on how Axelrod can improve as a pitcher so I'm not sure why I can't compare the two. Because it's a terrible comparison
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 21, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) Semantics. Quintana increased his fastball speed in the off season. He was around 88 last year and it's up to 90-92 now. Quintana is also 3.5 years younger. Not sure why you're trying to compare the two at all.

Well, the first trade Peavy to the Dodgers article is here
ChiSox_Sonix replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ May 17, 2013 -> 01:06 PM) Orioles seem like a great fit since they've publicly claimed they seek a frontline starter. There's not a ton in that system behind Bundy and Gausman, however, and they stated those two are untouchable. I'd have no objection building a package around Schroop! -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ May 17, 2013 -> 11:36 AM) There is no reason for this team to be considering trading Peavy. Plus to the Dodgers? They are in far worse shape in the standings then we are so maybe they become sellers instead Except for the fact that there's a pretty decent chance that we'll be out of it by the deadline and if he keeps it up we could potentially get a ton of value in return for him. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 17, 2013 -> 09:49 AM) I'm trying to come up with a mascot for a project - I need an animal species that's known for sharing or working together. Anyone have any ideas? Dolphins work together to fend off sharks, go after other dolphins, help each other etc...

QUOTE (Brian @ May 16, 2013 -> 04:28 PM) Have not. Wouldn't even attempt. Not into fantasy stuff. I'm not either but something made me start the books a couple years ago. It's more of a medieval political thriller with a huge and remarkably well developed world (with history) that it made it impossible to put down. There are fantasy and sci-fi elements to the series, but it seriously accounts for maybe 10-20% of the story.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ May 16, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) But the boobs just make the show even better! We need more of Margaery's boobs, they want to pop out of those dresses so bad. Watch the Tudors. She has some of those scenes in there (Season 1/2)

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 16, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) Four beers over a two hour time period is probably still getting close in some states isn't it? Are you willing to take the risk on some broken breathalizer? QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 16, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) For an average adult male, one drink (one beer, one glass of wine, or one shot of 80 proof liquor) raises your BAC by about .02. Your body can metabolize at a rate of about .015 per hour. So 4 drinks in 2 hours would put you around .05. You should be good. The more you weigh, the less your BAC goes up with every drink. I weigh around 240 and if I drink at a rate of 1 drink per hour, my BAC will not keep escalating. I'm 6'1" 230 so I'm not exactly small. I know at what amount I should be ok to drive both legally and in actuality. The one beer an hour philosophy is good as well. Everybody is different, but once you've grown up some, you should really start knowing how you handle it as well.

Slow pitch softball thread
ChiSox_Sonix replied to ChiliIrishHammock24's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
We lost our opener last night to the defending champs 16-15. Were cruising along until the 5th when we literally made 5 or 6 errors and let them score 9 runs. Can't give up free outs in softball -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 17, 2013 -> 09:05 AM) Not really that....just the fact a guy predicted to be a sure-fire top 10-15 draft pick and top of the rotation major leaguer one year can quite easily go to questionable the next. There's no sport like that, not the NFL, not the NBA...the line between success and failure is so delicate. Baseball, unlike the other two sports, it still take 2-3 years for most collegiate pitchers to make it to the big leagues. I can't think of more than 5 players that were considered sure-fire major leaguers going in to the MLB draft in recent memory. The baseball draft is nothing like any other draft. The only valid comparison is with the NHL but even that is a stretch

The team definitely had TBTW last night

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 16, 2013 -> 07:54 PM) Just goes to show you the danger of those at one time "elite" pitchers whose names are thrown out a year before the draft. It does? Really? Because a pitcher had a bad inning? He has a 2.80 ERA on the year... QUOTE (bighurt4life @ May 17, 2013 -> 01:59 AM) I hate to be the guy to bring it up, but whenever someone completely breaks out I always have to wonder if he's maybe artificially augmenting his performance if you know what I mean. I obviously hope that he's just finally gotten healthy but still... you never know. I doubt it. He's hot right now. His bat was never in question. He's finally healthy and has been for a significant amount of time now. He's probably not as good as he's been lately but there's no reason to not believe in his bat. His bat was his strength when we drafted him and he's always had projectable power

Sox Linked to Dominican Slugger

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 16, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) Or even after 3 you should realize "hey, this isn't going in the right direction. I have to drive later so I should stop." I go through that routine once a weekend. I use 4 beers as my limit if I go out and have to drive. This is provided that it is over at least a 2 hour period. I've never really had an issue with not being able to stop at that point.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ May 16, 2013 -> 09:17 AM) If it were zero tolerance, 90% of the bars in my area would be forced to close. There is no cab service and many of them are out in the country where you cannot walk to them. Not just that but think about how many people will have a glass of wine or a single beer or cocktail with their dinner.

QUOTE (Jake @ May 15, 2013 -> 04:00 PM) FWIW, aggravated DUI exists at least in some places. My brother got lucky in being downgraded from aggravated DUI (I think the threshold was .15) Aggravated DUI exists in NY for over .18 I believe
-
So this is kind of related, but I read yesterday that the NTSB is recommending lowering the threshold for DUI from .08 to .05. That's a pretty significant recommendation.

QUOTE (juddling @ May 14, 2013 -> 07:05 AM) After 'meeting' the titular Mother last night on HIMYM I found it a bit humorous that they got an actress that looks like a combo of Lilly and Robin......wonder if that was a planned choice or not. At first glance I thought she looked kind of like Nora (Barney's ex)
