Your 2023 Off-Season Plan
Thanks for the analysis. Sheets should be dealt for a piece they need and I am sure they could sign someone to be a bench or depth piece. I can get on board with Colas, but can they win with him developing in the majors or does it make sense to invest in another established hitter to go along with Colas? Wishful thinking is they trade Sheets for a starting pitcher or catcher, sign someone to play right, put Colas in left and start Eloy at DH. But we all know what they will do… My money is on Eloy being in left and that I’ll be disappointed we don’t use resources for an everyday right fielder. JR needs to take a risk and pony up to sign a multi year contract on an every day player rather than have his GM go dumpster diving.

Your 2023 Off-Season Plan
Any quants on here want to talk me off a ledge regarding the Sox not replacing Abreu with anyone except Vaughn and how they could go with a platoon in right field (Sheets and Colas) instead of investing in an every day player?

Jose Abreu in Houston thread
Do we trust them to improve the team with productive players in other areas of need, like an actual right fielder and not a platoon player with Sheets?

Jose Abreu in Houston thread
Abreu’s power numbers may be in decline, but the dude is a RBI machine. I hope Vaughn can replicate what Abreu did in his career and that the Sox can replace Abreu’s production with an actual outfielder they acquire. Clevinger can’t be their only addition this offseason with still so many holes to fill.

War in Ukraine
I’m glad the will of the people is still there. I hope that they can remain resilient throughout the winter and that they get the aid and weapons they need. Hopefully there won’t be politics with the aid given to Ukraine in 2023. Today I donated to an organization that will help with repairing infrastructure and assisting with heating this winter.

Jose Abreu in Houston thread
I’m not sure if they should have given him that kind of money for those years. The Rodon decision was a dumb one and maybe the Abreu one made more sense. But I remain concerned they won’t improve the roster with acquiring someone to replace Abreu’s production. I’m not sold the internal options will be able to do that yet.

I think he could be Hillenmeyer or Kwiatkowski.

Jose Abreu in Houston thread
And yet the consensus here was to let Abreu walk. Nobody seemed to care about the consequences. I will miss guys that actually play a full season. And I still think they are going to miss his production even at what Houston signed him. I am sure someone will come back and show me the analytics, but I think his power numbers will recover and the Sox will regret not bringing him back UNLESS they made the necessary moves to improve the roster.

2022-23 NFL Season thread
My blame goes to the defense giving up 31 and the amount of penalties they had. Fields’ INT wasn’t great. He needs to get better at throwing down the field instead of just evading people, even though that is a huge part of his game. I’ll take these losses that are close and hope there is improvement with an actual fully stocked team next year.

Official NBA 22-23
Probably. But I would like to see further punishment from Silver if he continues to be a dbag about his beliefs from the documentary. Even in his late apology, there are certain things he agrees with. He should outline what those things are so fans can know where he stands. But I think many have made up their minds on Kyrie and an apology can’t fix what he said and believes.

Official NBA 22-23
Suspended at least five games today. I’m hoping for more so that Kyrie will start to get it. It might be too much to ask for him to understand though.

Pedro Grifol named White Sox manager; Katz asked to return per Rosey
I am glad that talking heads on Twitter were wrong again and that their “reporting” was nothing more than a waste of time. I don’t have much to go off of when it comes to hiring Pedro Grifol. The positives include that he seems to understand analytics, he comes from a division opponent that has kicked our ass from time to time, he will get input on a new coaching staff and they didn’t hire someone from within or with ties to the organization. The negative comes from the fact that they didn’t hire someone with recent post season experience. I would have liked to know why they didn’t hire Espada, Mendoza or Long. But that point is moot now. The success of his managerial career depends on reshaping this roster.

White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
I thought I heard Dan Bernstein say Ozzie had a 5 1/2 hour long interview during Bernstein and Holmes today. Not sure who his source is.

I thought they would get more too, but without knowing the market I would take a 4th. The salary cap room for next year looks good for the Bears though.

Bernstein is working on that but doesn’t know that yet. Carlos Beltran was mentioned by someone they interviewed in the last segment but I missed who that was.

Maybe the FO needs to get thicker skin and that banner should show up at the game in the upper deck all of the time! Yep, come on down Kevin Long or Joe Espada! Sure, let’s listen to a Twitter user as a source on Espada. Let’s get more people confirming this. I’ll bet him a six pack of beer he knows something but it’s not the whole story.

White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
Why couldn’t they wait until after the World Series to announce it? He’s cheap and sucks the dicks of the owner and the FO. A yes man who won’t change anything. Seems like Jirschele was just a name that Soxtalk promoted. A poster who many believe is an insider posted about it several pages back and the discussion turned. I’ve seen nothing reported. Or that psychologist who the Score and AM 1000 interviewed who said, “Tony, put Engel in, run Engel.” They hold it at hotels downtown, a much better location than Naperville or Lisle. The event was a lot of fun when I was a kid and teenager. Cool memorabilia, fun meeting players and getting autographs. Not sure why so many people are crapping on the event here.

No Soxfest in 2023
I agree they need to play better baseball, but why cancel the fan fest?

No Soxfest in 2023
Because you could get kids autographs, shop for memorabilia, do something fun in the winter, go to cool seminars and ask questions. Too bad they are too scared to answer questions and face the music.

White Sox Mgr Speculation Thread
Great, glad to hear he’s off the board, assuming the Sox get someone who isn’t tied to the organization. Now people can stop focusing on Bochy and instead focus on Espada. Some of us don’t mind having seasons in the Midwest and don’t like summers that are scorching. The cost of living argument is all too easy and those of us who live in Illinois know it all too well, but some of us aren’t among the crowd that bitches about it and then feel free on their way out of the state. I personally welcome the debate since people love to crap on Chicago and Illinois.

Who is buying/renewing tix for 2023?
My old man went to at least two to three more games this year, including the last one against Minnesota and another against Colorado that were non competitive games. He wants to see what they do with with the team on the field before he commits any money next year. I agree with this approach, especially if he is retired and can easily come over to my house and watch the games on cable and see his grandson.

Who is buying/renewing tix for 2023?
This year, the thing I learned for going in small groups is using StubHub. You can filter by including fees and selecting specific sections, then you can evaluate the prices of the tickets you’re going to buy. You can search on the map on Ticketmaster, but the fees are never included. If you use Ticketmaster, you also need a separate app for parking. I am usually good for one game in April or May with about 15-20 people for my birthday and we always sit in the outfield to keep things affordable. But other games really depend on who wants to go and what my availability is. Using StubHub makes sense to save on tickets and occasionally parking, but also for the convenience of using one app. And I’d rather buy from a resale market for a bargain instead of direct from a team, unless the deal is like Bleachers & Brews, which is a fairly good deal the team offers that I have used for many outings with lots of people.

They also talked about Ozzie on the Score. It doesn’t mean Guillen or Thome will get hired.

So have they only interviewed Espada and Washington thus far, or Harris too? I haven’t seen much reported on these interviews…
