  1. As long as Mancow is on Q101, they will never be the best of anything. Oh, but to answer the question, I use CD's. I hate the radio. They don't play anything good on the radio. Who would have thought the days of Payola were better off.
  2. s***, I've just started making my own damn pizza's. Usually it's cheaper, and it's more fun to do.
  3. http://www.myspace.com/thedarkness At their My Space site you can check out the new single. Somewhat "more of the same", but the vocalist seems to have worked on his voice to getting it a little bit stronger sounding. I still think if he would lay off the high parts a bit more, they could be amazing. The sitar thing in the middle of the song doesn't fit, and it REALLY should have been a cool guitar solo, especially since so many people claimed that the vocalist brother is one of the best guitarists alive today, he should have taken this album to show that off a bit.
  4. I do know about them. I'm just curious as to why we all seem to celebrate that year, or why the "company" chooses to have us celebrate that team over, say, 1917 or 1906. Just a different question in the mix.
  5. I almost went into a whole thing about the fact that I want a 1917 WS jersey and such, and that you can't get any of them now unless you want to pay the bog money, but I can still find "old styled jersey's" that say "1919" on them. That is the thing, the old style merch mentions only two dates, 1901 and/or 1919. You rarely see any of them mentioning the years they won the series. I have just always found it a little odd, always wanted to ask, and found today to be an ideal day. Helping to pass time until something happens.
  6. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 07:46 AM) Oh, and to try to answer your question - I think people as a rule tend to blame Comiskey's miserly ways for the Black Sox thing more than they blame the players themselves. Not so sure about that. Most people don't really know (and even more didn't know until 8 Men Out was released in theaters...not that many non-fans read the book) the specifics of the Series throwing, they just know the Sox did. If fans knew what a HUGE prick Comiskey was, I don't think as many would have been upset over the stadium name change. ***place should be renamed "Thomas Field" if you ask me***
  7. Isn't it kind of odd though that it is easier to find 1919 gear than it is to find 1917 gear? Almost more of a "celebrate the failure and not the success" thing going on.
  8. I like it. I like seeing respect between the two clubs when they aren't on the fields. I also have no problem with any of the Cub fans pulling for the Sox. I have a father-in-law who is a Cubs fan, and he is pulling for them, to the point of even stopping watching the Cubs in the end of the season to watch the Sox, because the Sox were doing something, and he wanted to see good baseball, and see something we don't get to see often. Plus I think my love for the Sox makes him like them a little. Then I have two bosses here, both of them HUGE Cubs fans. Season ticket holders and all. But they are pulling for the Sox. They say the best thing they could see happen would be a Sox/Cards series, and watching the Sox destroy the Cardinals. The one even said he would buy a Sox hat at that point to REALLY pull for them so stomp on the red birds, but he didn't want to be a "band wagoner". So I suggested he just borrow one of my hats.
  9. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 12:04 AM) Christmas comes every year and I usually know what to expect. This is soooooo true! Plus, I usually get gifts on Christmas.
  10. Shoot, any chance he'll throw REALLY good and we can get Viz removed from the roster on the next series and Frank put in as a pitcher?
  11. QUOTE(Antonio Osuna @ Oct 4, 2005 -> 07:36 AM) They made the World Series. Not many other Sox teams can say that. I know that...but they didn't really "respect" the game or the series. It has to be more than just that, I would think.
  12. That is soooo cool! Problem is I won't get to see any of the game until the half-way point. Anybody recording this thing? PM me. I think this is the best possible choice for the Sox for a first pitch. I think more than anything is really echoes the "chemistry" that we have heard all year that this team has.
  13. O.K., so I'm getting dressed this morning, and I know I have to go full all out Sox gear today. So I grab one of my jersey's, and it is the 1919 one I grab. Before I put it on, I stop and think to myself "is it wise to wear this one", but put it on anyways as it is my favorite. I started to think about it then, aside from the slight lack of titles for our team, there is no doubt that the blackest period of the team was the 1919 series. The team itself, up until then, was a team to be proud of. But then that happened. Why then is there so much merchandise with it? Why do so many of us still honor that team? My theory is that it is a great way for Sox fans to show that they do NOT buy into curses and such. I just got an email from a Sox fan mentioning the "curse" we have been through, and I said how we didn't have a "curse". My boss asked what about the 1919 series, and I said there was no curse following that and most fans don't think of us having a curse. I then said would we wear these jersey's if we really felt it caused a "curse". He agreed then, and said he also had never heard of a "Sox Curse". But anyhoo, why do you think we still seem to enjoy the 1919 team, and still have merchandise available on that team? Shouldn't it really be a "black eye" to a degree, and a period that we ignore? Or should it be something to respect for the fact that they were a great team, and that scandal actually cleaned up all of sports...to a degree.
  14. THE ULTIMATE IN TIME WASTERS (and wastee's)
  15. This is discrimination!!! Why should I be banned from places in Chicago just because I am smoking hot?
  16. If it's October... ...THEN WHY THE f*** IS IT SO HOT!?! I hate the friggin' heat.
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 01:19 PM) Screw all you guys, I am going to be rich!!! Pfff, screw YOU!!! I'm leaving on a plane in two hours to go collect my millions in Nigeria!
  18. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Sep 30, 2005 -> 10:17 AM) Can you buy the champagne with the Sox logo on it anywhere? I know the liquor store by me has one for the Cubs from the 80's, and it is their pride and joy in the store. I am guessing that type of thing is hard to come by. But try a Jewel, in all honesty.
  19. I went home and had a Celebrator. Flaxx will appreciate that one. Right time of year for one, and the right situation. (though the color there is MUCH too light) (yes...I used the proper glassware...I'm a geek...)
  20. I want to sweep the Indians and keep them away from the post. Shove it back down everybodies throats, and make sure their guy doesn't get manager of the year.
  21. I was scared, I will admit it. I had my doubts. They played a whole bunch of crap games, and they were falling unlike any other team ever has. Chicago has a history of collapsing, in all sports. I don't see why anybody finds it so hard to believe that some of the fans were fearing a "choke". It doesn't make you less of a fan, because I don't think anybody was HOPING for them to choke. One of my fave bands has put out numerous crap albums in the past few years. I still buy them as they come out, and I still support them. Just because I am expecting the next album to stink doesn't mean I am less of a fan, it is just that I am suddenly used to being disaapointed. But my fandom keeps me going back to them, paying my money, and supporting the hell out of them. Just as many of the "choke" callers have done, and will do. The ones I question are the ones who quite wearing the colors. No matter how fearful I got, there was never a doubt I was always a fan. I still wore the shirts.
  22. QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 10:54 PM) This last one is my favorite. I need a blow-up of that one. Hopefully there will be larger versions someplace.
  23. "Hardly" is one of the best Husker songs, IMO. Which other ones did he do from Du? My night would have been made had he just gone on stage and done "Standing In The Rain" and left. Not knocking Bob or Husker, as I do like them both a bunch, but that is such an amazing song.
  24. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Sep 29, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) Brought a tear to my eye. . . Brought a whole bunch of them to my eye. Damn, that is a fine post. I suggest we all raise a glass this weekend, or right before the Tuesday game, for smalls2598's Dad, and anybody else who stuck with for all these years but is not around to see it now.
  25. Ran into a girl I hadn't seen in years a few years ago. Me: Hey Gina, how ya doing!?! Gina: Oh my God Carl, I haven't seen you in years! Wow, you've really filled out!
