They never even tried though.

GameThread: White Sox @ Twins
Yeah but lefties that throw 102 with a wicked slider don't grow on trees. Sox player development (or lack thereof) fucked him up. He should have been an Aroldis Chapman level closer at worst. Also the Sox TJS guys are losing significant stuff after surgery. They should re-evaluate their TJS rehab protocol. He always had significant reliever risk, but they didn't even try to start him.

I'm not going to argue against the Crochet pick. It was worth the gamble if the Sox didn't rush him to the Majors and they actually gave him time to build up his arm. MLB draft is a crapshoot. The pick wasn't bad, what happened afterwards was brutal. Another guy that got injured and lost his stuff, just like Kopech.

7/20 Games
Reyes and Hernandez have been so disappointing. The top international guys from the last two classes.

GameThread: White Sox @ Mets
That's so confusing to me. Jerry doesn't like to spend on proven talent and he doesn't like to spend on unproven talent. So where you getting talent from, Jerry?
-

So then is Jerry right? I think it sucks that the Sox aren't really players in FA but that's even more evidence to sink a lot of resources into scouting and player development because that's where the value is.

GameThread: White Sox @ Mets
He was worth it in 2020 and 21. Not in 2022 and 23. That's the point I was making. Grandal was worth 1.6 fwar in 60 games in 2020 and 3.6 in 2021. He keeps up that production and nobody is complaining. This is my point.

Also Grandal was worth it until he got injured. But that is to be expected as a 33 year old C.

GameThread: White Sox @ Mets
Kopech is having a good game but he's clearly not the same guy he was as a prospect. You can say that about way too many of the guys that were supposed to be core pieces. Also this is gonna be unpopular but Cease=a healthy Rich Harden

They do a really good job of finding Quad A guys. Their approach works in Charlotte, not in Chicago.

He's way too streaky for my liking. Under the old draft system where the Sox could pick top 5 multiple seasons in a row I'd have him on the block but in the current system I doubt the Sox are trading their players with anything more than a year left on their deal.

This team has no concept of what a strike is.

2024 MLB Draft Order (Reverse Standings)
I forgot about that. It really sucks for the Sox because if they win a spot they will fall into that category as well.

2023 MLB Draft thread
It's really hard to trust the Sox player development at any level right now. I hope these kids can overcome the disadvantage they're at.

7/18- White Sox at Mets, 6:10
As was said earlier, it is so White Sox for Giolito to give up a snowman in the ER dept right before the TDL. The rule of being a Sox fan-Murphy was an optimist.
-
Eloy...yet again...
Out of all of the guys that the Sox traded for/drafted/signed, only Giolito, Cease and maybe Robert lived up to their prospect status. Even when healthy, Eloy has Avi Garcia syndrome where he has great raw power but hits too many ground balls to tap into it.

Kopech is not a starter
Thank you for creating this thread, I was gonna do it if you didn't.

Is it time to question whether Kopech can be a starter?

Garfein's Latest Podcast...
I know a lot of fans don't want to hear this, but I don't really blame Moncada that much for his failure. In 2018-19 the ball exploded off of his bat and he had elite EV metrics. Then he got covid and wasn't the same guy. It's just s%*# luck tbh, he got sick and injured and it altered his talent level. It sucks but that's the way the cookie crumbles. I don't have a problem with him being called a bust, because it’s objectively true, but it's more bust-injuries than bust-lazy.

Can someone explain to me wtf they're doing drafting Nick Madrigal again? I thought they tried that and it didn't work.
