This is Jerry we are talking about. I’m sure he wanted to know that once he agreed to pick up Robert’s $20 million dollar option and signed off on Getz picking up additional free agents (Murakami, Newcomb) that there was a plan in place to offset that money by dealing Robert (especially before he gets injured again). I doubt they even want to risk an injury to him in ST and there seems to be enough interest (Reds, Mets, Pirates) to make a deal.

I think it’s likely close to happening due to the two most recent signings. Murakami and Newcomb will add $20.5 million to the 2026 payroll. Robert is due $20 million.

They could all struggle just as easily as excel next season.

$90 million wasn’t a very good price for him but he is a pretty good hitter. He would probably be starting for many teams.
