Whitesox sign Kevin Pillar to Minor League Deal 3M if he makes the club
I never said to spend big at all. My point is, why even spend at all on these guys? Let Colas prove himself in the majors. See what Sosa can do. Sink or swim. We already know that the majority of the veteran players that Getz acquired suck, so why even waste money, time, and at bats on them? What exactly are you buying time for? You are wasting time in a losing season in which you can figure out if your young players are worth a damn.

Sheets is pretty much worthless other than as a bad lefty backup 1B that will occasionally run into one. My point is, what is this strategy even supposed to be? They will be terrible either way. Why not see if you can salvage some young players for the future as either starters or bench players by giving them at bats in a lost season? That way, Getz may not have to waste $3 to $5 million on all of these terrible bench players.

Seriously, save all the money Getz wasted this offseason dumpster diving for terrible veterans, put it in a vault, and spend it later on something worthwhile. Not this collection of crap. Is anyone really excited to see Martin Maldonado behind the plate instead of Carlos Perez? DeJong and Lopez over Sosa? Pillar over Colas? It’s ridiculous.

Why? How does this make any sense? I understand making young players earn their way to the roster but the Sox have all their cards on the table and they have absolutely nothing for RF, SS, 2B, or catcher. How does it make any sense to waste at bats on Pillar and Phillips over just letting Colas play and either boom or bust? Why do bums like Pillar and Phillips deserve at bats over Colas? Because they are veterans? They are bad veterans! They are already a known quantity of suck. At least there is some glimmer of hope that Colas could turn into a decent player. I don’t understand how the Sox run their awful team and I probably never will.

I don’t think Getz has shown interest in such a player yet.

How many negative WAR players has Getz acquired this offseason? He must be looking to set the record.

Cue the Getz in dumpster image (I can’t find it.).

Likely. More dumpster diving. Dude is 35 and can’t hit. It really sucks being a Sox fan. I’d rather watch Colas get at bats starting on opening day than watch at bats be wasted on this old bum.

Why is he all for it? Does he love QBs that can’t throw the ball and go 10-28 as a starter for your team?

Indeed. The worst of the worst.

Sox Interested in Dom Smith
Doesn’t make much sense as to how they are employed does it?

Sox Interested in Dom Smith
He’d be a better pickup than Dom Smith.

Sox looking at building in South Loop
Oh, you didn’t know? @tray is a Sox fan ambassador. The White Sox pay him to speak for all Sox fans.

Sox Interested in Dom Smith
Would only make sense if they still plan on trading Eloy.

Grifol, Sox out to prove doubters wrong in 2024 (Merkin Optimism Series)
I always thought that Hinch was Hahn’s guy but Jerry overrode him and hired TLR. But after that, I did think that Hahn chose Grifol.

Cease To Padres per Passan
This would be nice.

Cardinals to sign Keynan Middleton
But Middleton didn’t actually name any names specifically. I remember he said one reliever was falling asleep in the bullpen but he never said who it was. Besides, multiple players came out and said similar things as Middleton once they were traded from the Sox. It sure sounds like it truly WAS a toxic environment.

Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
Was just thinking about this. Weird offseason. They are trying to compete while still turning their expiring contracts into new players. Still seems pretty half-assed.

Not surprising that JR, Kenny, and Hahn fell for a snake oil salesman since that’s what they were as well.

I think “asshole” is a bit harsh. He was just honest about a dysfunctional team. Refresher link for reference: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38147621/ex-white-sox-reliever-keynan-middleton-rips-club-no-rules-culture

Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
Benintendi is a bad signing for any team for his performance (complete lack of power). Sure the money isn’t a killer for most teams, but once again you said it — “Sure, for Jerry it is.”

Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
Getz definitely will have overplayed his hand if Cease gets seriously injured in Spring Training or pitching before the trade deadline. Hindsight or not, his head should roll if that happens.

Orioles Acquire Corbin Burnes for Ortiz/Hall/34th Pick
Your last sentence nailed it. Two of your three proposed moves (Montgomery and Soler) are fantasy land for the Sox, especially after recently splurging big free agent money for once on the worst possible choice in Benintendi.

When did he ever start?

Eh, I know people say you just have to get into the playoffs, but this team would get absolutely smoked in them, both offensively and via our stupid manager’s decisions. I also don’t see how we can assume anything all that positive from either Fedde or Kopech as starters.
