  1. I never said that about Thompson and Mena, but nice try putting words in my mouth like you always do to everyone. But if Getz gets credit for the developmental success of players he DFA’s or trades away, shouldn’t he also be blamed for not keeping said prospects? Afterall, Getz chose to add Sammy Peralta to the roster in 2024 rather than retaining Rule 5 pick Shane Drohan in a season his team lost a record-setting 121 games. That is the type of season in which a Rule 5 pick can easily be retained, had Getz thought Drohan was worth keeping. Getz DFA’ed Peralta twice that same season and he left via free agency at the end of the season. Getz also thought that 33-year old, -0.5 bWAR, lefty reliever Cam Booser was worth trading away Fajardo for. This is like praising Hahn and the Sox for signing and developing Fernando Tatis Jr. only for Hahn to trade him away for a washed-up bum in James Shields. Congrats, I guess?
  2. I just looked at the Red Sox top 30 prospect list and didn’t see Drohan. However, I did see Yhoiker Fajardo at #25. Getz strikes again!
  3. He’s also turning 27 in January and has yet to pitch in the majors. Is he even really a “prospect” at this point?
  4. I guess Getz and his staff didn’t think Drohan was worth retaining. Getz DFA’ed Drohan last year to make room for the great Sammy Peralta. Getz DFA’ed Peralta twice during the same season.
  5. I was actually referring to nrockway’s post. I brought up Getz because he’s one of the two big reasons (along with Jerry) that the Sox have the stinky record that they do. We were talking about managerial records and GMs are a big part of that, as are owners. Meanwhile, 83 wins for the Reds this year along with a playoff berth wasn’t a tough path, yet you praise Getz for helping to “improve” the Sox record from 41 wins to 60. You and most other Sox fans would literally cream in their pants if Getz managed to put up an 83 win season within the next 3 seasons.
  6. “What if’s” are just that. Hypothetical nonsense to defend your own argument. What if Getz didn’t go 101-223 over his first two seasons as GM of the Sox? But he did, which is why there are no GM of the year awards in his future. Francona’s team won 83 games in a tough division. That’s what actually happened.
  7. Chris Getz, ladies and gentlemen… The wrong guy at the right time (for him, at least). 101-223 as Sox GM. Dude could easily hit 300 losses before 175 wins in his GM career. What a bum…
  8. I found this one, but it must be the wrong one. However, it states what one of the trade rumors was — Crede and prospects for Chavez.
  9. Clase has earned about $11.5 in the majors so far, but look at his upcoming contract years and you’ll realize truly how stupid he was. Imagine risking millions for even one stupid bet that can’t be for anywhere close to the amount of money you are risking throwing away. 2026: $6M 2027: $10M club option ($2M buyout) 2028: $10M club option ($2M buyout)
  10. Agreed. But a shot at 70+ wins and a vet or two to flip for a couple Single A relievers would look like a good season to Getz considering how horrible his past two seasons have been. It’s all about perception!
  11. Exactly. I’m not sure if any of those guys move the needle for the Sox regardless, even if they are willing to sign here. At best, perhaps they add 2 wins and can be traded for a prospect that just barely makes it into the Sox top 30 list? I guess that’s something. Not sure I’d consider that a nice offseason, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers.
  12. Mead will likely be given some more time, just like Fletcher and Julks. Even though it was Houser and not a huge trade chip, Getz can’t admit that he got nothing of value back for him this soon. You make good points about primary positions mattering but this is an organization that is willing to move many of its players around all over defensively, whether it’s a good or bad idea.
  13. Weird. I never mentioned helping the bullpen the last two years. I thought it was fairly obvious by my previous post about the current state of the rotation and bullpen that I was talking about going forward. No one was saving Getz’s 101-223 White Sox over the last two seasons. These two failed trades that Getz signed off on definitely didn’t help things either.
  14. Who needs young pitching when you barely have a rotation and a mediocre bullpen?
  15. True, but don’t forget — Getz traded these two young pitchers for them. Christian Mena Luis Rodriguez
  16. Venable was not a more coveted managerial candidate than Francona. Francona took a year off from baseball due to health issues but that didn’t automatically make Venable more desirable. Desirability is indicated by pay. Counsell got 5-years and $40 million guaranteed a year earlier. Francona is rumored to have received 3-years and $15 million guaranteed from the Reds. I’d bet that Venable is no where near either of those contracts. The Sox beat out the Marlins in the final offers. There was no massive rush from multiple teams for Venable’s services. Just offers from two of the worst and cheapest teams in baseball. Perhaps if you would have stated that Venable was “the most coveted young managerial candidate” it could have been a true statement. But you didn’t say that.
  17. It’s difficult to debate with such hyperbole. Apparently, Venable was “the most coveted managerial candidate” of the 2024 offseason. Not the guy who reportedly signed for $5 million a year for 3 years in Francona. Does anyone think Jerry gave Venable $15 million guaranteed?
  18. The Sox hired Grifail and he was an absolute joke. I truly believe he fits your first paragraph’s narrative. Meanwhile, the Sox reportedly beat out the Marlins for Venable’s services. ***** golf clap *****
  19. And who wouldn’t want to accept a promotion from a team in which the organization has historically not fired their front office people after years of poor results? Also, how low are Sox fans’ expectations that it’s even impressive to sign a first-time manager? It’s not like a first-time manager is going to command a ton of money like Craig Counsell. The Sox bread and butter throughout the years (minus the awful TLR best buddy hire) has been signing first-time managers because quite simply Jerry is cheap. Just sad how low the expectations are with this team. Jerry has brainwashed everyone. “Listicle.” 🤣
  20. Talk about getting burned.
  21. That penalty was a joke.
  22. Sure, but do you think those other expenses account for the $190 million dollar difference?
  23. So isn’t this proof that the Sox aren’t actually “losing money” as has been stated in other threads? They just aren’t making the revenue that they expected or want. Hence the slashing of payroll to Marlins levels. Will be interesting to see the 2025 revenue numbers.
  24. Look at the team that claimed him — one of the few organizations as dirt cheap and awful as our Sox.
  25. He’s going to plug up the big dumper so he doesn’t drop any more bombs?
