  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 04:55 PM) FWIW, a guy who I'm 99% sure had a triple-digit fastball that was "way too straight" and "not pinpoint control" was Max Scherzer. He came up as a 100 mph guy, learned to take a little bit of velocity off that fastball in exchange for more movement, and well. Montas has a lower K-rate than Scherzer did but an equal or better walk rate, and coming out of the DSL teams not surprising he's a bit more raw. He's not ready for prime time yet and we all know that, but big difference between that and "not having the ability to be a starter in this league". If you've got a 100 mph fastball, taking a bit off of it to 96 with better control/movement and still having 99 in your pocket when you need to strike a guy out in the 7th inning is a solid recipe. Just takes time and learning. totally unrelated. but i remember another hard thrower who just couldn't take a little off to be a better pitchers. Felipe Paulino
  2. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 04:49 PM) He is well-rested so another gem tonight. if you may, let me further add, rested and all the little aches and pains healed.
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 05:50 PM) I think NorthSide summed up best what to potentially do with Daily but Zangari stays put since he's only 18 and fresh out of HS. oh sure.... side with the admin... i can how you are. but in all honesty, while that is a good idea, i just didn't want to rush him. i would like to do a lateral move with other rookies and change the scenery and present him to other pitchers, like the ones he was facing. just a different view.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 05:15 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@CSNHayes 4m4 minutes ago Frankie Montas is a one-day promotion only. #WhiteSox intend to go with six-man bullpen on Saturday and Sunday. i always liked the idea of a 6-man rotation for this season. i still like this experiment.
  5. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 05:22 PM) This is Part 2 of my Q&A with White Sox Dave of Barstool. well it was nice until..... well you did good.
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 05:01 PM) I look at this and see a few different outcomes. #1- The White Sox do indeed sign him long term in attempt to ride this season out and make a wildcard push. If they go this route, I really do see them dealing away Quintana this winter. He can most likely bring more back in a trade than Samardzija and the one way to acquire offensive help would be to trade away pitching. I HIGHLY doubt they will go the free agent route this winter. (They NEED to maintain draft picks) #2- They are saying they plan on extending him in an attempt to increase his value even more as teams will definitely get into a bidding war close to the deadline. Steve Stone currently believes they can get a team's #3 prospect for him or multiple prospects who are younger. Things sure will get interesting within the next few weeks. I believe this home stand will be pivotal in determining the team's direction. Personally, I hope they find a way to acquire a few top prospects before the deadline. They need to fill that 3b, 2b and C spot badly. i agree with the bolded, however, all pitchers that will be FA, will not receive a QO from there teams. that will include regular positional players. so a stop-gap fix can be found.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) Judging by the amounts of middle fingers he gets, a lot of people think he is #1. another one..... humor. you know, it been a while since i really seen nice humor on this board. keep it fellas.
  8. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:10 PM) Nice to see Zangari with a few hits and Cody Daily is just murdering the AZL. i was looking at that and a couple of of the rookie league players. but where to put them, is what i was thought. every players needs reps. can they move them around in the different sox rookie teams??? a change of team mates, a chg of pitchers facing??
  9. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:50 PM) Eaton 8 Abreu 3 Cabrera 7 Garcia 9 LaRoche DH Ramirez 6 Soto 2 Sanchez 4 Saladino 5 Samardzija P it is back.... i don't know why, but i like this lineup.
  10. QUOTE (shipps @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 04:01 PM) Danks is thinking you are his number one fan. most excellent.
  11. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 03:23 PM) That's a good sign. However, Sale seems like the type that wants the ball every time out even when he isn't fully healthy, so hopefully he isn't pitching hurt. oh man, that mean this makes the other debate moot. or is it mute??? ummm
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:37 PM) Houston is also rumored to be looking for a 1st baseman. Maybe LaRoche wouldn't be better than what they have now but maybe the Astros might like the idea of getting a veteran leader to help the young guys down the stretch. Shark and the Rock both to Houston. that would be sweet, but i think hou would want to sox to take back some salary of some sort. what do you think??
  13. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) Aside from what I have all said in this thread, that's another reason to trade Samardzija. The Sox desperately need hitters throughout the organization and trading Samardzija can help with that. excellent point and i agree.
  14. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:55 PM) I'd like to see him traded first and then possibly brought back in the off-season. that too would not be a bad option. but i can see the sox making a bold move like, this and say, if it failed, we tried to sign him and he said no. we as an org at that point needed to think about the future.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) There's a big difference between Chris Sale now and Strasburg back when that happened. If Chris Sale can never pitch in the postseason without extended rest periods during the season how do you actually ever make it to the post season giving Sale a month off every year when every game is so critical to actually getting to the post season ? It's been 6 days since Sale last pitched. Has there been any indication that he needs rest right now ? Sale said " "I don't make calls like that," he said of whether he will start Sunday. "[but] absolutely, any time you get an in-division rival, those are the games you need, those are the games you want. Like I said before, I'm here to pitch, whatever they've got for me, I'm game for it." That was taken from an article by Mark Newman on MLB.com . I just don't think he should miss the entire series with KC and he could pitch right away if they really wanted him to. Chances are the Sox are out of it and anything Sales does will not get them back in it, however a 3 series go for it mentality while starting the 2nd half at home is the right message to send the team and fans. Sale can get all the rest he wants after that and if by some miracle the Sox make a run then Sale will have to do what most pitchers in the postseason do and that's just suck it up and do your best. Right now ,as in the future ,the question will always be "Can the Sox get to the post season while giving Chris Sale rest periods during the season " ? i can understand you point and you do make a good one. but i rather give Sale that little extra rest. ref bold 1. a month???? bold 2. Sale is saying the right things. he is not the boss. bold 3, it is this series. the future????
  16. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:36 PM) Per Rosenthal: One rival executive says he expects the White Sox to make a big offer to right-hander Jeff Samardzija in an attempt to keep the team's starting pitching intact long term. interesting..... i like it.
  17. going for it, also doesn't mean to run the risk of injuring your ace. i trust the sox team medical people on this. i rather take that chance now, give him a day of rest now. he logged in a lot of innings. totally unrelated...... can anyone remember whent pro baseball had a 4 man rotation. i remember Wilbur Wood having a 300 + inning season. Tommy Johns when he was with the sox in 70 had 250+ innings. a different era and in today''s era, i am happy the org protects their players.
  18. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Yes there will be more sellers . The Tigers might decide to sell David Price .There's still Hamels, Cueto, Mike Leake, or any Oakland starter since you never know what Oakland will do. Padres may decide James Shields is movable . Craig Kimbrel and Aroldis Chapman or Jay Bruce might also become available. Rumors are already flying about Justin Upton and Carlos Gonzalez. It's not only starting pitchers that will dilute the market for Shark but any trade that brings players back the Sox are interested in. i am sooo divided on this. the sox should decide whether they will trade shark, if Yes, then do it sooner. jump on the other team with a very good pitcher and pick up pieces the team need. if not, do what is necessary to make this run for the playoff. but i guess the sox org did make a mention sometime this week about that. oh well i am going to cheer for the sox to make this run.
  19. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 12:20 PM) The team is not contending and doesn't need to pay a vet to close. To quote Tyler Perry, "I can do bad all by myself." don't get me wrong on that, i can see the reasons. but Robertson has proven himself and there is always going to be next yr. any way, that logic i bolded can be held for any play on the sox.
  20. QUOTE (3GamesToLove @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 12:08 PM) No more former players on PBP, please. the owners way of reasoning..... keep it in the family.
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 17, 2015 -> 12:14 PM) Another theory. They're trying out Montas on MLB pitching to see how he holds his own. If he does well, they'll try him out in the closer role and move Robertson to a contender before the deadline. interesting. but after thinking about it, while it is a great idea, i would be hesitant to pull it off. Robertson is an established cl with a track record. Montas will be rookie. then again, how do the sox fill those holes that they are missing.
  22. well with no newer updates on hockey, at least of the hawks. i am posting this team payroll amount. the price of 3 SC and no org willing to help. unless it is paid with a hefty amount of sugar. http://www.spotrac.com/nhl/cap/
  23. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) I've seen so many people suggest moving Micah Johnson to the outfield, I couldn't take it any more. So I wrote an article on all the reasons why that would be a bad idea. Read it here. Then let's hear if you agree or disagree, and why! real nice article and really in-depth.
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 08:20 PM) Great article. He can't be moved to the outfield for all the reasons you suggested. It's interesting how Micah has gone from being a savior type (Hawk's hype last year) to somebody considered laughably bad defensively and not even much of a hitter on the big league level. A month or so of big-league ball took the luster off Micah. Does anybody actually expect anything from him now? His reputation now seems to be a horrific defender with fantastic speed yet limited hitting skills as well. i can see how you and if anyone else can come away with that feeling. however, i think many who saw the abysmal beginning of the sox will keep that in their mind when judging MJ and the 2nd baseman prospects. i know the sox really didn't help themselves this yr. all i would say is, he is young, has a great attitude, by all rpts, and he will continue to develop.
  25. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jul 16, 2015 -> 07:57 PM) Barstool had me on to talk about the Samardzija situation and state of the Sox. http://www.barstoolsports.com/chicago/fire...de/#getcomments nice interview.... very professional answers.
