  1. At this point the Sox should just trade or release BA. If they're not even going to use him as a late inning defensive replacement he has zero role with this org, give the guy a chance to latch on with a team and contribute
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:59 AM) If moving Getz from the #2 spot to the leadoff spot will ruin his career or damage it in anyway, he's not going to have a very good career anyway. Put him or Ramirez at the top.(Even though I like Ramirez low in the line-up) but 8th sort of wastes him too. Move Wise to 8 or 9, maybe 9, moving Fields to 8 and the team will be far better off. I agree with you 100% about the Getz comment, but don't you think if they are going to move Wise that far down they're better of putting BA in due to his superior D?
  3. QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) Well, when Big Frank came back as an A, he got a standing O. Then he hit a homer, and got another standing O. When he hit his second one of the game, though, we booed him. He was probably laughing when we did; we were. We owe Crede damn near EVERYTHING for what he did in '05; I expect him to get similar classy treatment here. I never want to see us act like Cleveland fans did towards Thome. Obviously Crede deserves a ton of credit for '05, but Frank is the greatest offensive player in franchise history, IMO Frank is on a different level than Joe... with that said, Crede still deserves a ton of applause his first AB, then it can pipe down. Also, Crede is with one of our main rivals.
  4. QUOTE (YASNY @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) One more shot at Wise here ... Did anyone else notice that Wise didn't seem to know which way to turn on that bomb to CF that Burls gave up? yeah, he's not a very good CF which is why I think if BA and Wise are going to give you basically the same thing at the plate it makes much more sense to me to have BA play because he is a much better defender. I still have no idea why the hell Wise was still in CF in the 9th.
  5. QUOTE (SoxFan101 @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 11:25 AM) It just doesnt make sense, the reason Marmol wasnt the "closer" is for situations last night where he could come in and get a much needed strikeout. So, instead of using Marmol they being in Gregg and ofcourse end up losing the game. true, it just goes to show that their pen is a major weakness for them. I think if Heilman shows anything they'll try him as the 8th inning guy and Marmol as closer. both Gregg and Heilman have a career WHIP of about 1.3, which isn't great for a relief pitcher. Is there an update on Soto? He left yesterday with a sore right shoulder
  6. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 03:51 AM) Kevin Gregg is going to be fun Marmol will replace him quickly I imagine, but he'll still be lurking in the 7th and 8th.
  7. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) Their fans will be shocked to see how much of a home field advantage they lose without the dome. I still love that their org isn't changing their scouting or development theory and just plan to cut the grass real short like they do in Texas, completely ignoring that the theory likely won't work without Texas weather! (Unless they're just b.s.'ing The Hawk)
  8. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Apr 8, 2009 -> 09:15 AM) It's not just one game. It was all spring where he drew ZERO walks and proved he wasn't a capable leadoff hitter. When I booed yesterday, it wasn't directed at Wise, who I know was busting his butt, but instead it was directed at Kenny and Ozzie. Kenny for letting it get to this point, and Ozzie for being so blind in ST, yet still hitting Wise leadoff. Wise is a 4th or 5th OF, not a starter, and definitely not a leadoff hitter. It's baseball suicide to grant the most plate appearances to your worst offensive player. It's also many years of him being in pro ball and not being very good. Someone compared it to Mack and how Wise has no control. I do understand that point of view, but as a fan I want KW and the org to know that it's not acceptable to have his caliber of player starting in CF and batting leadoff. Do I think KW is thrilled with the situation? No absolutely not, but he still needs to hear it from the fans.
  9. I have no problem with players getting booed if they deserve it, but Crede deserves nothing but a standing O in his first AB
  10. I'm glad there's a thread dedicated to this! Today's bad play doesn't suprise me, he's a 31 year old career minor leaguer, he wasn't going to magically find it this year. Why the hell was he in the game in the top of the 9th?????
  11. QUOTE (tommy @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 11:49 AM) Wise CF Getz 2B Quentin LF Thome DH Dye RF Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Ramirez SS Fields 3B that still dissapoints me
  12. I'm excited!! I'm pissed that I scheduled a meeting for 2 so I will have to listen in the car and miss about an hour, and with MB that could be roughly half the game (and when they moved it to today I missed out on going since my uncle had an extra but I coulnd't change the meeting this late). I think this is a wide open division and Boers and Bernstein made a great point in saying any pick to win it could finish last and it wouldn't be a shock. The one glaring thing that tempers me is Wise. He's just not a MLB player IMO. I would be more comfortable with Getz leading off and letting Anderson patroll CF with his superior D and putting him at 8 or 9 in the order. Hopefully Wise proves me wrong, but I'm nervous
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 11:14 AM) I've been hearing A's this A's that for the last two days on this site and there lineup isn't that great. The whole rest of that division sucks but I wouldn't be shocked at all to see the A's be the team that finishes dead last. Giambi is past his prime and is going to a much large ballpark, Nomar will get hurt, Sweeney isn't ready to leadoff, Holliday is legit, but other than that, very very blah lineup. Rotation completely young. not to pick nits, but this should probably be in the MLB catchall, but I tend to agree with you, I think their pitching is too young as well. I think Beane made a great trade for Holiday because if they contend he's there if they don't he'll probably be able to get what he traded for him in return or more at the deadline.
  14. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 10:12 AM) Sabathia was real bad to start last season, too. Had like a 12 ERA through his first 4 starts. It ended up being one of his best seasons. yeah, i posted his career splits above. I think he'll end up being very good again this year, the base numbers won't be there IMO because he was pitching in the NL last year now he's pitching in a great hitting division.
  15. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 07:02 PM) C.C. gave me -17 points for my fantasy league... I have -1 total points right now... He better pitch a no hitter his next start. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...=Career&t=p He's never really been that great in April, so I think he'll be fine. He's not going to pitch like he did for the Brewers, but he'll be a legit ace soon enough
  16. QUOTE (JustWin @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 08:45 AM) This is what scares me. Right now whenever Cub fans poke fun at our attendance, we use 2005 to strike back. That's our trump card. What happens if one of these years the Cubs do win it all? Then we have nothing....absolutely nothing....to use against them. They'll have the better attendance AND the trophy. We cannot even try to use the argument of "well we won it first" because that won't mean a damn thing to anyone. In fact, even now I hear Cub fans say things like, "ha, you guys won a world series and your team is irrelevant in this town." It's so frustrating. Except they're not irrelevant, they still have good attendance. The Sox will never be as "popular" as the Cubs so don't waste your energy arguing with Cubs "fans" about it.
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 07:58 PM) I'd like Ocho Cinco from Cincy. it just seems that Cincy is OK with saying F you to him and making him stay. His best bet to get out is keep his mouth shut and show up for things for awhile
  18. QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 05:23 PM) That main event was awesome but Mir was annoying the hell out of me with his one-sided commentating. I thought Rogan was biased but he has nothing on Mir. yeah, it was a joke, which is odd because Mir is usually a good color guy. Pulver was excellent last time, maybe they'll just stick him in there full time.
  19. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 09:02 PM) really jim leyland....you pulled your team cuz they threw a piece of garbage on teh field....wow i've seen way worse...i have to think leyland is trying to get a forfeit here I have a feeling this Tigers season might get ugly really quick
  20. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) whoops that wasn't Phillips, it was Sutcliff. They're both equally as useless as announcers so it was an honest mistake. Bradley playing alot in the field isn't going to work and they should just let Marmol close now instead of making the switch down the line
  21. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) That kid's got bosoms! Somebody get a wet towel! Uter, that's a funny name.
  22. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 12:15 PM) Can someone clarify something for me? I havent been following Plaxico's case, isnt he in line for some significant jail time? If so, why would ANYONE want to sign him until his jail term is over. The mayor called for 3 1/2 years, which won't happen, but they got a continuance a week or two ago because, according to reports, the DA basically said they are demanding jail and Plax wasn't willing. Basically having experience in the IL crim courts I would say he will do somewhere around 6 months, I just can't see him walking with probation only on this. IMO the dumbest thing he can do is piss the judge off by not accepting an offer and force him or her to decide his sentence. (Yes, I know everyone has a right to trial and if that what Plax wants to do he should have every right to do so and shouldn't be punished in sentencing for doing so, but I also live in reality.)
  23. QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 01:15 AM) I just try to make suure my meals get healther as the day goes on. I'll have heavy carbs for breakfast, I figure I'll burn them off during the day, less at lunch and very few at dinner. I recently switched to 'MGD 64' beer, because I'm not giving up beer. MGD 64 tastes like water! I cut back on my drinking alot, so when I actually do it I drink Miller Lite or captain and diet pop.
  24. the last two fights on the WEC card tongiht were excellent. Be on the lookout for rebroadcasts
  25. QUOTE (greasywheels121 @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) He'll be in the booth on Sunday Night Baseball this season! With Joe Morgan? If that's true ESPN is just messing with people now.
