It's possible that AZ met with Johnson, discussed an extension and gave him a list of teams intersted in trading for him, then RJ took the list to his wife and family (which ends up making most decisions) and they're still waiting to hear back from him. Is this stretching? Who knows, but this article acts like KW is completely out of trading options since he didn't make one at the winter meetings. I think the fact that there's still some top FA's out there will hold trades down for awhile....
-
yeah I agree... there were reports that Yankees would go even harder after Beltran because of the embarassement with Giambi, so I don't see them bringing in Sammy, espeically since he wouldn't fit in that clubhouse with his me first attitude
-
Great move if he's healthy. Sexson may strike out a lot but he has a TON of power, and as far as I can tell it's not steroid enhanced. He is one of my favorite players, that bomb he hit against the Cubs last year was astronomical... if it didn't hit the scoreboard it might still be going.

no wonder you're a Sox fan... you have experience with avoiding radars
-
Right, it seems that the Angels were scared away by Boras and Beltran's demands and I think ESPN through Stark said the Cubs may be falling into the mindset of the Angels and focusing on Drew or Jones
-
articles like this make me nuts! It seems KW is on the verge of something significant! Should be an interesting next couple of days hopefully.
-
um, better make sure she's not a Cubs fan, because I've dated a few of those and they're annoying as s***. (the ones who really don't follow baseball, but will wear a cubs shirt or something are OK, I'm just more concerned about knifefights at future Thanksgiving meals or my father never talking to me again)

Yeah, that's the problem with "sources" sometimes they're used for negotiation purposes... like Edgar's people could have been leaking this information to ESPN in hopes the Cardinals would run in and dump a bunch of money on the table. It seems like I tease KW about 'flying under the radar' comment a lot, but that's what happens with big deals... ESPN or other major outlets will report nothing or contrary reports than all of a sudden the ticker will have a breaking story that no one even mentioned.

Wow, this is the first time this year the Bears looked like they hadn't been coached very well. All the penalties were horrible and sloppy... And Terry Shea made some questionable calls

Nero Says Johnson never turned down the Sox

This is just my gut feeling after processing all the information... but I think RJ will end up staying in Arizona. He'll be satisfied that AZ improved themselves with Glauss and Ortiz, and I think AZ will basically tell him we're not getting good enough offers, so we're not going to move you. -
it depends what we have to give up for him... if we don't take anything from the starting rotation and don't have to give up Lee, I would prefer MB Garcia Contreras Garland Chacon over MB Garcia Contreras Garland Grilli

Braves Trade Capellan For Dan Kolb

Wow, I think the Cubs REALLY need to sign Beltran now... I mean they don't even make a run at Renteria (I don't think the Nomar signing was better than Renteria for the long term), they're having trouble moving Sammy, they're really running out of options for closers, and they're close to bringing a similar line-up back who couldn't generate a run in a close game when their playoff life depended on it. I wouldn't be suprised if the Cubs attempted to make Wood a closer, this guy can't stay healthy and often has 100+ pitches in the 6th inning. There's a friend of mine who is a Cubs fan, and when the Cubs gave him the extension last year I mentioned how he had never won more than 14 games in a year, despite all his hype. He would say how the bullpen blows a lot of his games, but my argument is that if Wood learned how to pitch he would be able to go deeper into games and not have the bullpen in his games in the 7th. -
For what it's worth the ESPN Radio update has said nothing about the trade.... only MLB thing was Pavano to the Yankees for 4 years at 39m

Nero Says Johnson never turned down the Sox
SoxFan562004 replied to santo=dorf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think one of 3 scenarios happened 1. RJ was only going to go to the Yankees and in so many words was refusing a deal elsewhere. Now, that the Yankees balked at AZ's demands RJ still wants out of AZ and is opening his options. 2. The AZ GM really never asked RJ or his agents about trades other places and was trying to force a deal with the Yankees (Even the 3-way scenario) because NY was willing to give so much cash that AZ was basically going to only pick up very little in salary. 3. RJ still only wants to go to the Yankees and his agents are spreading rumors that he will go elsewhere to get the Yankees to give up more. It seems KW is being agressive, let's see if he can get something done -
exactly, and it's not like this is anywhere near a productive member of the ball club. This guy has been dead weight since they signed him. Addition by subtraction is sometimes the best way to go.
-
Yeah, I tend to agree with you. That's been my feeling the last couple of seasons. It would be hard for any of these players to point at anything but statistics and say "look what I've done for the ballclub." In fact it's easier for us fans and KW to point to some key series over the last couple Augusts and Septembers and say "that's the reason you're out of here." Not to specifically blame one single player who's leaving or being talked about in potential deals, but as a whole this team has just not got it done.
-
Yeah, no way either side is 100% correct, but I tend to believe the Sox side more. I'm sure they did offer him more than one extension, and with Maggs canceling his open workout because of a "media frenzy" worry sounds odd. Unfortunately I think Maggs is really hurt and may never be the same player he once was. I think he is kicking himself for not signing an extension when the Sox offered it.
-
No doubt I would rather see Uribe as our everday SS over him
-
what teams did they mention? I would guess; Yankees Cardinals Orioles Dodgers Detroit
-
these signings could mean that they're sure the Yankees are going to take RJ and they're just spending the money they will get off the books
-
That rotation makes me say yes, however I do agree that they would have to get another competent bat in the line-up.... so if the Yankees are eating some of Vazquez contract than that is fine with me...
-
i would have to imagine the Yankees are going to be doing some serious contract eating in a 3-way trade for both the Sox and D'Backs
-
Wow, I'm a little suprised Ozzie just came out and said "we need another starter." I mean I'm glad he's not towing the company line, but that will put a lot of pressure on KW
-
that's OK with me if Delgado is healthy.... finally a left handed stick in the line-up Did Gammons mention the names, or just the trade and you've heard those names other places?
-
Good point to bring up. Did he or Mulder (sp?) have the hip problem?
