  1. QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 09:02 PM) If found guilty of domestic abuse, should this end the career of Tito Ortiz in the UFC? I think it should. Dana hinted he wasn't thrilled with the news but would let the facts shake out a little before they decide... he basically said outside murdering someone, hitting a woman is the worst thing you can do, so I wouldn't be shocked if they cut him. ...also, the Randy/Toney fight for 8/28 isn't officially signed yet, but looks like it will get done.
  2. Go out of your way to see a replay of the Garcia/Korean Zombie match that was on the prelim card on Spike last night
  3. how about someone convinces him to throw fast balls to KGJ, who has had trouble catching up to them for the last few years, instead of dicking around with off-speed stuff?
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) What also shows you how bad this has gotten is most of us now think Rios is great and he's hitting .250 with six ribbies. Yippee. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...sal01-bat.shtml with a 105 OPS+ (not great, but above average, and he's been hitting 6 on down) and a .279 BABIP, .40 under his career average... Rios has looked WORLDS better at the plate this year.
  5. and it's Randy vs. Toney August 28th in Boston
  6. I think I've mentioned this before, but if you're an NFL fan, you really should subscribe to Glazer's twitter account, that guy is on top of his stuff, he was a few minutes ahead of TV yesterday and consistently ahead of ESPN, Si, etc. on a regular basis. Even if you have twitter, I think you should make this one exception!
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 09:33 AM) Jay Cutler or the triple headed monster of Orton/Quinn/Tebow????? lol, IMO, this is a no brainer, it's Cutler everyday and twice on Sunday... I don't think any of that triple header is very good, but if I had to pick one I'd go with Quinn just because I think he has a higher upside. I really think the Tebow pick was one of the worst picks I've seen in a long time, I don't see him being a starting QB on the NFL level, but hey, I'm not paid millions to make those decision so what do I know!!! IMO Stl has to be kicking themselves, they could have had Suh or another player with the first overall and still got Clausen with the first pick in the 2nd and saved paying the #1 QB price, barring a miracle and a new collective bargaining agreement isn't reached. I like Bradford slightly better than Clausen, but not QB #1 money first 2nd round money more.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 09:59 AM) "Hats for bats??? Keep bats warm." lol, first thing I thought of... now I may being a little over optimistic, but I think if Q and Beckham start doing anything this team magically looks a lot better.
  9. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 09:04 AM) And we have a winner. No command = fail. Doesn't matter how good of stuff you have, if you walk the world and get into hitters counts at some point you are going to pay in the AL. The minute he gets his command underneath him, he will be fine. this may sound stupid, but IMO yesterday actually gave me hope for him, his velocity was back up, his stuff was moving, he just can't locate and I think that's going to come. as my previous post states, I think they need to address the AJ/Jake situation on the field, there's way too much time between pitches
  10. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 09:18 AM) anyone else been noticing the pretty clear jawing going on between AJ and Peavy? Wonder if there will be a change soon. Those guys don't seem to be on the same page at all. I really think this is one of the major problems, he is not in sync with AJ at all, he shakes him off about every pitch. He never gets in a rhythm, the fielders are standing around, it just is a snowball effect, IMO. I see AJ's and maybe the coaching staff's side that they know the AL hitters better, but at the end of the day it's Jake making the pitches. I think they should have Lucy start his next game and basically have Jake and Lucy sit down and go over every hitter, have Jake tell him his preferences and see if they can get a flow going.
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 11:36 AM) One of the streak for the cash picks today was about Tebow Where do you think Tebow will be drafted 29th pick or earlier 30th pick or later I took 30th pick or later I would go with 29th or earlier... not because I think that's where he SHOULD be drafted, but i think that's where he'll go. IMO, it won't work with him in the NFL, I know he's tried to change his delivery, but I can easily see him regressing back once under game situations. Also, the intangibles are what they are, many players in the NFL try as hard as they can both mentally and physically. Also, the "rah rah" crap won't cut it in the NFL, he will be dealing with highly paid professionals, not college kids, the combine story where he was told to "shut the F*** up" when asking for prayer before the wonderlick test IMO will be the common attitude towards him in the NFL
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) Except I think he was answering my ? about Uribe... But I guess it's applicable to Swisher as well...theoretically. yes, I was giving my theory on the Uribe situation, as far as Swisher goes, I think the move to lead-off and then Ozzie completely turning on him combined with his attitude doomed him in Chicago
  13. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) I am thinking the Cubs hope it would piss Carlos off enough to ask for a trade... possibly, but again, he is done a huge chunk of change and the Cubs would likely have to eat a high portion of that
  14. I was a huge boxing fan for years and years, over the last few it's tailed off some, got tired of the alphabet soup rankings, etc... watch it a little more recently since HBO and Showtime have had higher profile fights on
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) So does everyone else in baseball, when you compare those salaries. lol, i knew I wasn't making any sort of profound statement there, it really is a poor and mind blowingly bad decision.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) Absolutely true, great point we will see, the guy has a ton of talent, so I would never be surprised i any role if he is a top talent in the MLB, he just has trouble putting it together... with that said, he has 16 out of 28 quality starts last year, I think that's more valuable than a very good 8th inning guy
  17. i am by no means an expert in MLB players swings, but as a layman I think his head is pulling off the ball more than too long.
  18. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 04:50 PM) I think it is really messed up how Pierre was brought in to solve the leadoff problem yet the problem isn't solved at all. We already have a good number 9 hitter in Alexei. well, they've played 14 whole games and his BABIP is around .200. Over their careers Pods and Pierre are 4.7 and 4.8 RCG players, I imagine once the season shakes out they'll both be around those numbers, but to do that Pods will have to stay healthy for about 2 full seasons, something he hasn't made a habit of in his career
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 03:50 PM) Awesome. He ought to go insane down there. The interesting thing is that it could actually turn out better for the team if he can keep his head in it. He can go full out now, and not have to worry about throwing 125 pitches. That pen is so awful, he can't do any worse. Plus Lillly can step in and do better as a starter. that might be a problem, when he's going good he has wide variety of pitches working, but one of his big pitches is a good sinking fastball, usually being amped up makes that stay straight.
  20. QUOTE (whitem0nkey @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) the only thing that I can think of is they want Z to waive his no trade clause. apparently he OK'd it, and honestly, who is trading for this guy unless the Cubs are picking up a vast majority of his contract? Maybe, maybe, maybe the Mets
  21. QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) Shuffling the lineup will make a marginal difference at best. The Sox won't begin scoring "a lot more runs" until the latter three in your lineup start hitting. from the Cle series and last night, if Q and/or Beckham start hitting a little they'll score more runs
  22. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) I'm not trying to argue/fight...just want someone to answer with their honest opinion. Why did Uribe completely regress offensively after his first season with us? Did he tune out those who tried to talk to him and get him to change his approach/swing? That doesn't sound like Uribe, it's more Nick Swisher-esque. it could be he was in a HR friendly park and he was overswinging and couldn't get it out of his head, then when he went to a bigger park that's harder to hit HRs in he took a simpler approach
  23. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) The website in question is run by non-Middle Eastern Muslims, I believe. In fact, they may be Americans. WHOIS has them registered out of Bellevue, WA - a city just outside of Seattle. Talk about possible domestic terrorism... CNN had them based out of New York and an old interview with one of their spokesmen.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 05:38 PM) But, Devil's Advocate, Dye had to play in that cavernous Oakland Coliseum with so much foul ground. What's the park adjustment factor downward for offensive stats there? Dye put up good numbers with the Braves his rookie year and also with the Royals when he was healthy. Just the fact that he was coming of a huge injury and was a "project" at the time we took him doesn't mean he was a bad hitter. Heck, you take any guy who's a better hitter than a defender in the 2nd half of his career, USCF can really make him look good. He led baseball in homers from his position, but he also gave up untold runs with his lack of range and lazy throwing mechanics and "plus arm" that was merely average while we had him. Let's not forget, the best deal he can get now is for $3 million USD. There's a reason for that much bigger than just the second half of one season. Look at the back of his baseball card, Ozzie would say. Well, there's a lot more to it than just hitting homers. Ask the Mariners' GM. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/dyeje01.shtml OPS+ isn't the most perfect stat, but it is ballpark adjusted, and when he went from Oak to Chi he went from 105 to 118 and had his best year in his career OPS+ with the White Sox... Dye definitely excelled with the white sox offensively.
  25. Good win, those are the players that need to be in the line-up day in and day out. If Ozzie wants to tweak a little with the order that's fine, but IMO those are our best options for a good offense, in fact if Q and Beckham can turn it around a little it would help dramatically.
