  1. Reports have Bulls hiring Tom Thibodeau for their head coaching position... yes, he doesn't have head coaching experience like Forman said they wanted in his press conference, but what he has is World Wide Wes as his agent.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 12:45 PM) Even if the deal is done, no one is denying Lebron his "courting" tour. He's getting his visit to Wrigley, his ticker tape parade in NY, and whatever L.A. does for peopl Agreed. As I posted earlier, a few columnists reporters are saying he missed out on this type of thing for college and many think he wants the ego stroke that he missed out on.
  3. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 06:03 PM) The one they just had in Vegas over the weekend had Mir and Uriah doing some sessions on MMA. From what I heard all the stars we're there and signing, GSP had a 7 hour line from reports. Seems like they bring in all the big stars and make everyone accessible. the Vegas one also had grappling exhibition matches
  4. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) I don't think he could do that even if he wanted to. yeah, Reinsdorf is a minority owner in both groups and I'm pretty sure they're a vastly different make-up of investors
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 03:09 PM) I think he is trying to say that Pods could have saved our season... which he probably couldn't have, Pods couldn't have made Q and Beckham look like they had a clue at the plate and the SPs be a letdown.
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 09:01 AM) If there is a Hawk playoff game the same night, then maybe there is a small effect, but I think you are exactly right. Their tickets are not cheap, and the fans did not see a playoff contender this spring and are sick of paying so much money for a crappy team. I have friends who are die-hard fans who finally just said f*** it, I'm not wasting all this money on this s*** team. In the end, they will still have great attendance figues because of Wrigley & the Cubbies, but I think theres been a noticeable decrease. if there is really a decrease the Ricketts are in a bad position. They already had to scramble at the last minute to cover the last portion of the sale and they have to continue to dump money into the urinal to keep it up, not to mention a couple of bad contracts that will linger for a few years. I would imagine a successful business model for the Cubs necessitates squeezing every last dime out of that place, not spinning wheels or any sort of drop. Maybe they can re-solicit local celebs to pitch in for a small portion of ownership!
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) It's also just starting summertime. exactly, they'll do fine, around the same numbers once the buses full of slack jawed yokels from Iowa start rolling in. The weather hasn't been spectacular every night, a lot of colder nights and rain, so that probably stops the walk ups for the standing room.
  8. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 12:31 AM) Niicee! I wonder what my body fat % is, but I am too scared its like 50%! EDIT: I just did a "self body % check" online. Not very sure how accurate it is, but it said I am 23% body fat with 60 pounds of fat, and 199 pounds of lean. SoxFan, mind doing this 5-minute test for me to see how accurate this thing actually is? http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/h...t-2774-143.html EDIT2: I doubt that above test is right. I did 2 other ones on different sites, and they both show me at 34%, which I bet is more accurate for being 5'11, 260 lbs. I do, however, carry most of my weight in my stomach, which is did say can throw off the % a little higher. If I had to guess, I would say I am at about 30%. I did the one you had listed and it put me at 13.9% which sounds in the neighborhood of being right.
  9. QUOTE (Stocking @ May 31, 2010 -> 02:39 AM) conrats! thanks, now the key is to keep it off and even improve it during a summer of 4 weddings and many trips to lake houses!
  10. Rios and Pierre, minus Juan's arm, are such a nice change of pace to watch play OF defense.
  11. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 27, 2010 -> 09:05 PM) I care, but it's kind of like pissing into the wind. exactly, all the super liberals (i'm moderate, so I will rip on ultra-conservatives when need be) will whine about it at dinner parties, but if their Ipods were $100-$200 more they would riot.
  12. I watch a little soccer, mostly EPL on Fox and ESPN, so I'm not familiar with it greatly, but with the lacking D won't England with Rooney and some combination of Bent, Crouch, Defoe, etc.. just tear the U.S. up?
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 05:05 PM) Nice 0-3 with 3 K by Rasmus today. So much talent, he just needs to hit the ball. he's an extremely streaky hitter, you're right, if he learned a little discipline he would be much better.
  14. This game could get ugly, I don't see LaRussa blowing his bullpen today
  15. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) That wouldn't be loyal... ...oh wait, I forgot only teams need to be loyal, not players. of course it isn't and he is playing the game by downgrading the Bulls, as I posted above, trying to be impartial as I can, without having to align another FA Chicago is the best destination for a FA and Wade knows that and is trying to make the Bulls look bad. (Although I think the Clippers could be a great spot, but not sure any of those guys want to share the city with Kobe and be on the 2nd team)
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) Cain also has thrown two straight shutouts, so his ERA is going to plummet. Silva's been sensational this year, no other way to describe it. here's a way I like to think about players. If Hendry got on the phone right now with every other GM, what would he get for Silva, especially if they don't eat a good portion of the contract. I personally can't see any AL team touching him and with one year left on that deal, I don't see many NL teams giving up more than 2nd tier prospects for him. Again, I want to stress that I think it was a good deal for the Cubs and it's working out well for them.
  17. QUOTE (kev211 @ May 29, 2010 -> 03:28 AM) $$$$ well that and the team isn't very good and he won't stay if another FA doesn't come
  18. QUOTE (Brian @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:32 PM) I smell a traded for Linebrink. he would magically appear worlds better in the NL
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) Outside of a set-up man, what position do they really need to upgrade? well basically any team could use an upgrade on the bench, but they could easily upgrade for Theriot, outside his good start Soto has struggled a lot lately http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...ar=2010&t=b so they could use a stronger back-up catcher or a guy who can platoon more, who knows what is going on with A-Ram, They've gotten a TON out of Gorzelanny and Silva (Coming into today Gorzelanny's numbers, outside of record, aren't too far off from Silva's, 127 to 122 ERA+), cannot guarantee what the heck they're going to get out of Zambrano when he comes back and Randy Wells has been below average this year so they could easily upgrade in SP'ing, and as you pointed out, they could easily use another BP arm, they signed Howry for goodness sake! This isn't some super team who is struggling IMO.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) With June right around the corner, I'd say the Reds being in front of the Cardinals in the standings with Volquez/Chapman lurking is a pretty serious threat. right now it is, but Volquez is not a sure thing when he returns and Chapman is wild in AAA so not 100% sure what he will be like in the majors this year.
  21. MLBN had on their scrawl yesterday that Rosenthal is reporting Dempster is deferring 3m this year so the Cubs can try to add a little payroll
  22. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:20 PM) Come on Cardinals, you know you want to give up the farm for Mark Buehrle. With Lohse out for the year and Brad Penny always a threat to not recover, you're going to need two more starters. IMO a lot is going to depend on what the Cubs and Reds do until July, if the Cards are in first with the Reds close by and the Cubs 5-8 games behind, they may stand pat. If the Reds or Cubs make a serious charge then their hand might be forced. FWIW, many baseball writers are saying it's unlikely the Astros would trade Oswalt in the division unless they got a ridiculous package for him.
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:18 PM) Fontenot and Colvin should play every time they face a RHP. I had no idea Fontenot was as good as he was 2 years ago. wow, just looked at the numbers, and he was good 3 years ago in 119 games.
  24. QUOTE (iamshack @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:14 PM) What a shock. So many of us have basically been saying that Pods and Pierre are basically the same player, and what a surprise, after you lengthen the sample size a bit, umm, they are. 100% agree with you on this, and at the end of the year I would imagine they both end up around their career numbers
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) Ottavino better hope he can be a reliever, because with his lack of control and no secondary pitches, he'll never be a MLB starter. good point, what he showed early with some good speed, some life and decent control, he might be able to be an effective reliever, but seeing him more than once or twice a game will be bad
