The Red Sox will designate Joel Pineiro for assignment to make room for Jon Lester on the roster. There just wasn't going to be room for three right-handed middle relievers in the Boston bullpen, so Pineiro and his 5.03 ERA will depart. The Red Sox might be able to dump the remainder of his $4 million salary in trade, but they wouldn't get much in return. I remember a poster here talking about how great of a signing Joel Pineiro was.
