  1. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 10:13 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Well the Dodgers non-tendered Toby Hall so there's a fine option right there for the Sox. .....eh, maybe. Not too sure how many teams are looking for a back up catcher, or a right handed back up catcher. I would rather have the Sox get Jose Molina while the Angels are down on him and have two guys ahead of him.
  2. QUOTE(Rex Hudler @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What are auto rates at now? I'm currently at 4.95% on a refi, done about 3 yrs ago. Are we talking about new cars, or used? Frankly, I don't see the point in buying new cars. The only advantage you get is a lower rate (but you pay more in inusrance, and the car loses a lot of value after you drive it off the lot.) I got my Corvette for almost half the price of a new one, and mine only had 9600 miles on it.
  3. I will go on record as saying that Gio doesn't ever become any better then a 5th starter... and he'll be out of baseball by the time he's 30, either by injury or just disappointment...
  4. QUOTE(astralpanda @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 06:43 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I said around 30/100. He went 30/94 last season and I can only see him getting better but that's just me. I guess Esteban Loaiza has 20 win, sub 3 era seasons as well? Crede doesn't strike out much because he pops the first pitch up. How is that beneficiary to our team?
  5. Does Ascencio really have any value? I remember him walking 4 consecutive Sox hitters on 16 pitches in April of 2002, plunking Frank in 2003 (Thomas was PISSED,) then bouncing around in San Diego and undergoing TJS.
  6. QUOTE(Texsox @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 05:19 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Most credit unions have very easy membership rules and you would probably qualify. Pick up whatever the factory is offering and ask how much time you have to shop the loan. IIRC you should have 30 days and it will still be a new car loan. I got a .25% off for using direct deposit with my checking account there, and another .25% off for being there a long time. I ended up with 6.65% for 4 years, when the dealership was trying to do 11% for 4 , hell maybe 5, years
  7. ummmmmm, the reason why Houston got so much (or the same amount for Garland) for Jennings was because we pulled Garland off the market from them. If Garland was still available to the Astros, the Rockies wouldn't have netted them this much.
  8. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Dec 12, 2006 -> 05:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> In a bad year Ensberg was still on base many more times than Crede. ............along with 18 of the other 22 qualified third baseman in the major league.
  9. Molina is already signed for $1.3 million. He is not up arbitration. However his teammate Brendan Donnelly may actually be non-tendered.
  10. I want to start getting involved with stocks, but don't know where to start. should I pick and stick with someone online? Is it possible for me to do anything if I don't have access to my stocks because I'm at work from 6:30-3:00?
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 11, 2006 -> 09:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> but there is no harm in giving him an incentive laced contract and bringing him to camp. Actually there is. He could be the 2006 Bonne Logan or 2004 Mike Jackson where he has an impressive spring, and stinks it up when the games start counting. Gosox05, the comparison to Jenks isn't good enough. Hernandez has nowhere near the stuff that Jenks does. Bobby has top of the rotation stuff, not Hernandez like it was previously (incorrectly) mentioned.
  12. QUOTE(T R U @ Dec 5, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The XFL wasnt bad it just got a bad rap since it was owned by Vince.. I remember when I had friends who thought the wrestlers were going to be playing and I had to tell them no it was a real football league The quality of play was horrible. They were also constantly changing the rules which made it hard to follow as well, but I wouldn't mind if it was still around. From the Super Bowl-Spring training, I need some kind of Saturday night/Sunday sports fix.
  13. This really seems like another case of Soxtalkers having a CFSE* with a particular player that we see a few times a year. Look at the numbers. He is a loser, can't strike guys out, so he wouldn't be good in the bullpen. He has also had problems in the clubhouse and is in poor shape. *Chris Farley Show Experience- When fans remember one game that really sticks it to them when a particular player's name is mentioned. "You remember that one time, when Runelvys pitched against the Sox, and we couldn't get guys to score, and Cora sent Iguchi home and he got thrown out by a mile?" "Yeah I remember that. What About it?" "We really needed that win." .....and before anbody spouts any nonsense about Hernandez being a Sox killer (he won opening day during the Royals' fluke 2003,) his career numbers against the Sox: 4-6, 6.58 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, 15 HR in 67 IP.
  14. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Dec 4, 2006 -> 12:08 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, they show this retarded funeral procession, then the a-holes running towards it and killing all of the characters, its actually kinda funny. My friend tells me the funeral for that player died in real life. I guess they also have weddings on there and people crash them.
  15. QUOTE(striker62704 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 06:12 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just for the record, when the press and GMs talk about payroll I don't think they include cash they received from other teams. Correct me if I'm wrong. I'm pretty sure they do, and also buyouts are counted towards last year's payroll.
  16. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 08:17 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> His numbers are skewed by some serious injuries. He was not the same guy right after he was returning from his injury. Ok, I see a lower ERA, but the WHIP is still not impressive, and he still walked a fair amount of guys and struck out nobody, and if numbers have been affected since recovering from 2003, what makes you think he could turn it around?
  17. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Dec 8, 2006 -> 08:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why wouldn't you kick the tires on Hernandez? He has front of the rotation stuff, if you can keep him from getting hurt. Based on what? 435.1 IP, 231 K's, 177 BB's. Add in a bad attitude and poor work ethic, and you have one terrible baseball player.
  18. Carlos Zambrano fears the DH. Look at his career numbers in AL parks. He's terrible. He's great and all, but part of his game is walking or hitting batters to face the defensive-minded catcher with a .200 AVG batting 8th, and then the gimmie out in the pitcher.
  19. Is that the Heroin addict? Maybe he and "Farney" can join alliances and call themselves the "Speedballs."
  20. QUOTE(beautox @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 06:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah that defiantly wasn't a good deal. Hall or Jose Molina should become available soon and hopefully on the cheap. Molina doesn't hit lhp well but he calls a good game and would make a good back up and Hall over the last 3 years against LHP has hit .297 so thats encouraging. Molina hit lefties well in 2005 and 2004, has a great arm. Get him Kenny.
  21. If you guys really wanted to make it a politcal campaign, you would interrupt everyone's favorite thread with 3 consecutive negative posts about the other canidates. "Democrat Texsox. Same old "raise your post count" story." (That's a reference to a republican ad abuot a Democrat raising taxes. Including greiving families to pay a death tax!)
  22. QUOTE(Jeeves @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 04:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Overwhelm Toby Hall with an offer. Kenny has to realize that if (god forbid) AJ were to go down with an injury we would be absolutely screwed. We have NO ONE within the organization that can replace him. Is he even that good as a catcher? We need a legit defensive catcher.
  23. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 04:27 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How about Luis Gonzalez for LF to go with Kenny Lofton for CF - both temporary short gaps? Luis should not break the bank and we could get him for a short, reasonable deal Last year's #s - 0.271, 15 HRs, 73 RBI, OBP 0.352, SLG 0.444 Alou? lofton? Gonzalez? Brian Sabean, is that you? How about you doing some research before making these posts? MLB.com is reporting that the Dodgers and Luis Gonzalez have agreed to terms on a one-year, $7 million contract. It looks like the Orioles and Cardinals were given chances to go to two years, but neither did. Gonzalez's deal with the Dodgers is set to be announced Thursday. His arrival to play left field leaves James Loney without much chance of a starting job entering the season. Andre Ethier is probably going to start in right. Alou was signed awhile ago, and Kenny Lofton is a clubhouse cancer and caused problems with the Sox in 2002. He's not coming back.
