Wade Boggs & Ryne Sandberg inducted to HOF
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to CSF's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(ChiSoxFan @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Boggs made it in with 90% of the vote. Sandberg just made it by 6 votes. Congrats to both. Boggs was a shoo in but I didn't expect Ryno to make it this time around. Good for them both. -
QUOTE(YASNY @ Jan 5, 2005 -> 04:39 AM) You had to know it wouldn't be long before the Patriot Act was used on a US citizen for something other than terrorism. So it begins .... So what? If the Patriot Act helps put this asshole away for a long time then so be it.

Something I've been thinking about
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to whitesox91403's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Rowand is more than ready to handle the day to day chores in the outfield. I always was very enthusiastic about this guy and I too said give him playing time and watch him get better. Now that he has a good season under his belt this is his time to shine and make people understand that last season wasn't a fluke. -
QUOTE(Cali @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 12:48 AM) Isn't it now Heather Podsednik-Vizcaino-Playertobenamedlater? Happy B-Day LMFAO!!!!

QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 12:06 AM) And note -- I'm just saying -- if people are going to b**** about Kofi being callous with being on vacation and taking 3 days to come back, they also need to rag on El Presidente and his massive amount of vacation time that he's been taking. Just needed to clarify. Callous? I didn't think Bush was callous for not interrupting his vacation. I do, however, find it funny though that nobody criticized Annan for taking exactly as long as Bush did to respond. Kofi Annan, callous? No. He's not callous for taking vacation days, he's callous for taking bribes from Saddam Hussein with the same money that was supposed to buy food and medicine for innocent people. That also makes him corrupt and morally bankrupt but I'll stay on topic for now and stick to plain old callous.

QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Jan 4, 2005 -> 12:07 AM) United Nations is guily of undermining itself. I don't blame Bush for attempting to assemble an independent coalition. After the Oil for Food Scandal, I'd question UN methods of distributing 350 million. I'm really glad the U.S. is leading the way in getting this relief effort done. It's refreshingly ironic that the U.N., who a few days ago was saying American's were stingy with their aid, is now crying like a little brat that didn't get picked for a pick up basketball game in gym class. Now that the U.S. government and its citizens have provided a sizeable committment of cash and is using the military to deliver relief supplies, provide desperately needed drinking water and help the sick and wounded maybe people will be reminded that the U.S. is still the greatest force for good in the world. BTW. I wouldn't want Kofi Annan touching that relief money either. Saddam Hussein already has several lawyers organizing his defense for nothing, he doesn't need any money siphoned off for a legal defense fund.

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 09:07 PM) That's about the best description of Mariotti there is. Sosa worshipping, homosexual, s*** eating ass clown is the best description of Mariotti I ever heard but I'll settle for yours.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jan 3, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) Crap.. if Kenny keeps doing things like this I'm not going to have anything to b**** about at the Q&A.. LOL I think if we sign AJ then that'll silence the last of the remaining KW haters........for the time being anyway. I think he's done a fine job this offseason even if we dont land AJ for whatever reason. We're head and shoulders above where we were last season IMHO.

The Voluntary Human Extinction Movement
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to Wise Master Buehrle's topic in SLaM
QUOTE(Mr. Zero @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 11:33 PM) Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth's biosphere to return to good health. Does this make sense? Why even bother reading the rest when they're proposing I live a life where I do not have children. They are a bunch of tree hugging morons, they'd give up all of mankind just so inanimate objects and animals can be healthy. That's great and all but.. no one will be there to care, except for a bunch of animals. I hate some of what people do just as much as the next guy, but this is just plain silly. SOOO They think that humans should phase themselves out by not breeding anymore? Hopefully everyone who's a member of this organization is leading by example. -
QUOTE(winodj @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 09:43 AM) Tolls are cheap in Chicago, even at 80cents. To Leave Jersey and get to Staten Island on the Outerbridge Crossing, 6 dollars. To Leave Brooklyn and get to Staten Island on the Outerbridge Crossing, 8 dollars. Don't I know it. I went to NYC for the 1st time back in May and I was totally floored when I found out it was 6 bucks to go through the Lincoln Tunnel. I should have been ready because going up I-95 from the DC area the jackals in Maryland, and Jersey were taking rather large bites out of my wallet with turnpike fees.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 10:20 PM) It's My Party Too It certainly would be a great moment in our history if both the DEMS and the GOP both dived to the center. Imagine a both parties actually moving to where the majority of Americans are instead of catering to the extremes in their party. But if they both dived into the center then there'd be no more SLAP flame wars.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 01:19 AM) ChicagoBears.com Link Definitely a good move. Brad should have been the lone Bear voted to the Pro-Bowl this year, as he's definitely had an awesome year. As much as the defense has impressed, part of their success is due to the position that Maynard gives them, consistently, too. Definitely this years' MVP of the Bears, no question in my mind. Congrats, Brad! ATTA BOY BEARS!! Way to take care of the team MVP!!! LOL!

Bears Draft Pick Poll
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to NUKE_CLEVELAND's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 10:44 PM) Sign a Free Agent WR or two. Trade down for two 1st round picks. Select a OL and then a LB. 2nd round, select a DB. It's so simple! Who's going to be available at that position? -
Who will have more wins by Jan 2?
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to Gene Honda Civic's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 05:10 PM) Yeah the polls are quickly moving after the fact --- The score was Bears -- 32 Bulls -- 5 When I bumped it. At the time it certainly seemed that as bad as the Bears were that the Bulls were worse. I'm glad I was wrong when I cast my vote. Hopefully the Chicago basketball team can continue to get better and be watch-a-bull (bad pun) again. -
Much as I hate David Terrell and the fact that we dont have any decent recievers at all I still think we have to focus on the OL first. That was the main reason we couldn't move the ball this season.

QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 03:37 PM) Naah man, the way to attack Cubs fans is with baseball questions. Like, how do you come up with slugging percentage? What is OPS? Who are their minor league prospects? And then when they're stumped, you go in for the kill with an organized attack against Wrigleyville culture. Talk s*** about their khakis, laptop computers, sideways hats, fratboy atmosphere, etc. It ain't hard, man. And then afterwards, tell them that you never want to see them again in your best Hunter S Thompson voice. CELL PHONES!! You forgot the cell phones!!! That's the only place I've ever heard of where fans talk to each other on the damn things from 4 seats away. If that aint enough tell em to mind their heads when they're taking in a game because the place is literally falling apart.

Official Beat the FudgePackers But Need A
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to Goldmember's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) Damn this offensive line is a f***ing joke. It would be interesting to see these QBs play with some real protection. I wonder if Quinn or Krentzel would look any better with a real O line. To think that Olin f***ing Kreutz made the Pro Bowl too. arrgh!! I know they have to send someone but how about sending the punter instead. -
QUOTE (YASNY @ Dec 29, 2004 -> 12:27 PM) I didn't say bush did the "f***ing" in Asia. He failed to seize an opportunity to change the world's view of the USA. He's showed his tendency to be a world leader when it goes against the wishes of the free world. Yet, when he has a chance to step up and be a world leader in a time of disaster and human suffering, well.... Let's go mountain biking! What would you have him do YAS? Would it satisfy you if he went to Sri Lanka or Indonesia and pick through some rubble with the survivors? This is really petty and carping criticism of the President if I ever heard it. What's more substantive? A press conference or the C130's that were landing with relief supplies hours after the disaster occured?

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 29, 2004 -> 10:48 AM) This is how the US is treated in the world... when we do something other countries disagree with we are raked over the coals and portrayed as bullies, but when something bad happens we are the first country they turn to and expect to pass out money... That's how it's been since anyone can remember and that's how it always will be. The United States is the most unappreciated nation on this planet.

QUOTE (upnorthsox @ Dec 31, 2004 -> 07:01 AM) LOL!!! Something about the phrase "Outfielder Paul Konerko" just gets me giggling. He's proven he can steal a base, why not let him try his hand at playing center?

podsednik: Leadoff man, #9 hitter or benchwarmer ?
NUKE_CLEVELAND replied to CaliSoxFanViaSWside's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (YASNY @ Jan 2, 2005 -> 01:49 AM) I honestly think that Harris will be more aggresive on the basepaths this year, if he can get on base enough. Harris needs to be WAY more aggressive. If he gets his head out of his ass and uses that great speed everyone keeps talking about he can be a real weapon & if you pair that up with Poesdnik matching last years numbers then we're gonna score a ton of runs this season. -

BOSTON RED SOX 5. ATLANTA BRAVES 6. MINNESOTA TWINS 7. NEW YORK METS 8. FLORIDA MARLINS 9. ANAHEIM ANGELS 10. PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES How do the Scrubs make number one after losing Clement and not replacing him? They might be in the top ten but no way are they number one. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 02:33 PM) <!--QuoteBegin-thelatinoheat_30+Jan 1, 2005 -> 02:28 PM--> QUOTE (thelatinoheat_30 @ Jan 1, 2005 -> 02:28 PM) <!--QuoteEBegin--> i forgot exactly what he said, but somethin like he talked to kenny a day ago about aj. when the hosts asked hawk what the lineup should be, hawk said wait till spring training cause they'll make some more moves, kinda suggesting we'll get aj. also said he(hawk) had lunch w/ aj about a week and a half ago and also aj went to high school with hawks daughter. thinks he's conscientious. hawk said he would want him on the team but he didn't seem to be too enthused. and he said what pitchers said about him not preparing was prolly just pitchers pointing the finger after a bad performance: on the umps, bad d, and eventually bad sequences by aj, etc. also said that getting big boppers for the cell isn't the right theory, which he said jerry manuel did while he was here(you could tell he was ripping on him again). since its so easy to get hrs, even the smaller guys can get the homers so we don't need to clog the lineup w/ "power" hitters, which is a good point, except on the road, like @ comerica. the pitcher he's worried about most is contreras cause of his love of his splitter. overall, hawk didn't seem as optimistic about the team as usual, esp. the rotation. kinda skipped over talking about the starters to say the bullpen could be one of the best in the league. You know, I love Hawk and I hated Manuel for his tenure with the sox but I think Hawk should really stop ripping on the guy. Manuel wasn't the greatest manager but he was a classy guy and doesn't deserve to be ripped on all the time by Hawk. We all certainly got our licks in on Uncle Jerry and his boy Roycie when they were here but I think at this point its beating a dead horse.
