  1. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) i know im in the vast minority, but i love joe morgan...he has a way better baseball mind than alot of people give him credit for...everyone says hes stupid...hes not at all...perhaps hes not entirely educated about the players in the game today, but he is plenty educated about the actual game play...plus i get the sense that the guy truly enjoys a good baseball game, and has a deep appreciation for the subtleties that exist in each and every game...and i personally think he communicates that very well....i feel if there is every a trick on a good pick off move from a pitcher, or a mechanical flaw with a base runner, he picks up on it and lets his audience know.....hes a throwback type guy, which is what i love with announcers (why i like hawk and harry callis and vin scully) you just hear alot about ERAs of baseball that you dont hear about many other places... not to mention goddamn that guy had one hell of a swing I can definately buy into what you say above and I totally agree that he absolutely loves the game and you can tell how much enthusiasm he has for it through his broadcasts. I know Vin Scully isn't as good today as he once was (he isn't as sharp with today's baseball game) but the stuff I learn listening to his games is just awesome (it takes you back in time listening to him, for me, to a generation that I've only seen in highlights or heard from my dad/grandpa).
  2. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 10:10 AM) Just looking at his numbers when healthy he was a 30/100 .900 guy which is pretty much all you ask of your rightfielder. Yep. I would love to have Quentin put up those sort of numbers for most of his career in Chicago and I think he has that sort of ability.
  3. Morgan just isn't that smart about what players have accomplished. Ie, him saying Dye would have a tremendous season ignoring the fact that two years ago Jermaine had one of the best seasons in all of baseball. He just makes a lot of puzzling comments. I don't mind him because he has a good broadcasting voice but a lot of times you have to take his statements at heart. Including the comments about the Sox becoming a smart ball type of club because that is just a major misconceptoin about the 05 Sox. Yes they had Pods a top the order but the big key was the rotation and pen and you can't ignore the fact that the 05 Sox could still slug homers with the best of em.
  4. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 09:56 AM) http://youtube.com/watch?v=loFA83ESREo i would say you are correct sir, very similar stances...little bit of an uppercut swing, especially on the low pitch... btw its always amazing to me how much of a local hero tim salmon was to the angel fans, but i guess he did play his whole career there and was fairly decent I never was a big Salmon fan, always thought he was over-rated but today when looking for his stance to verify my assumptions were correct I stopped by his baseball reference page and the guy was pretty damn good when healthy (very good eye and a rock solid defensive RFer). I guess my issue was I remember him for his last few years where he was pretty broken down (he consistently posted above average OPS+'s though).
  5. Tim Salmon. I know people compared him to Canseco and they look a like, but I also think his swing has a s***load of similarities to Salmon (I kept trying to figure it out the past few games and it finally hit me this morning).
  6. QUOTE(danman31 @ Apr 7, 2008 -> 01:42 AM) I think the Sox will finish ahead of the Royals, but KC isn't that terrible this year. If the Sox win less than 75 they won't finish ahead of the Royals. I wouldn't put $50 on that fact. Royals have a pretty darn good 1 through 3 (if it stays healthy) in the rotation and a nice back end of the pen. They will for sure finish better than the Twins. If the Sox play like they are, the Royals will be kind of by themselves in 4th with the other 3 teams battling for the division and a wild card spot.
  7. Beautiful...beautiful win and a great start to the season. Lets keep it up White Sox!!!
  8. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 07:52 PM) This was a great series. If the Sox go on to have a memorable season, one could point to this series as the momentum starter. After last year all I can say is that we should all take in a little extra joy over this. Let it wash out that bad taste of 07 and get ready for some more. I really could get used to watching this team if they keep playing like they have this season. Come on SOX!!!!
  9. 4 game winning streak!!!! Sweep of the Tigers!!!! Lets keep this up
  10. Another DP...YES. Mac actually pitched pretty damn solid. Didn't get hit hard and showed some nasty stuff. I'd still like to see more strikes though.
  11. QUOTE(BurlyMan56 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 07:42 PM) Offensive onslaught on national television, maybe they'll start mentioning us. If not, that's fine too. If they keep playing like this I don't care if we don't get mentioned till the end of October (kind of like what happened in 05, hehe).
  12. Ugly...Quentin...ugly. Alright Mac, man up and pitch over this. Show us you can do it.
  13. QUOTE(daa84 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 07:45 PM) anyone miss chris carter? Carter is an above average prospect, but Quentin is an even better prospect (just as much power potential or at least close to as much with his other tools being better than Carter's). The only difference is Quentin was more ML ready and played a position of need, while Carter was more raw and played 1B (which is an easier position to fill than any position in baseball, imo).
  14. QUOTE(JorgeFabregas @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 07:41 PM) Where's he gonna play? You never know what can happen. Sox could get a tremendous offer for Konerko or move Dye in the off-season. You just never know. I'm not saying it will happen but there are always options that may not be around today that end up showing up. Plus injuries are a part of the game and can pop up and when that happens you have a guy to call up who can play OF/1B/3B (albeit none of them above average defensively). After the home opener I wouldn't be opposed to giving Dye a day off (with BA playing CF, Swisher sliding over, and Quentin playing RF). I think the Sox need to be aware of Dye's age and make sure to keep him fresh (need to do the same with Thome).
  15. QUOTE(SoxWS05 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 07:39 PM) Nice to see OOribe get in the action It should be pointed out that Jon Miller is the only person who actually pronouces Uribe's name correctly. I know I don't, haha.
  16. BA needs a quieter head and if he does that he should be pretty solid offensively. It may also be that he's pressing and pulling his head all over too. He definitely got some pitches to drive in that AB but I still must say I'm more impressed with him now than ever before (despite him being 0-2 with a K).
  17. What a beautiful approach by Juan.
  18. QUOTE(lostfan @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 07:35 PM) Holy s*** that looked like it was leaving the park. Quentin is going to be an offensive machine, any reservations I had about him not having proved anything at the MLB level are gone now. If he stays healthy, he'll have at least a few All Star seasons. I may be getting a little crazy with that, but he has a quick bat, good eye, and all the defensive tools. Crede with another hit...4 hits and 3 RBI's for Joe. This is just such a complete lineup. It is a little slow, but other than that it has a lot of power, some solid average guys, some OBP guys, and a nice mix of lefties/righties.
  19. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 07:34 PM) Oh God Carlos, you're gonna turn me gay. Don't do it Alex...you are a curse to players. Baj...gone....Bullard...gone....Egbert DL....Bikowski...Gone....BA...Bench Duty. So just say no Alex. Go pick a Tiger to root for
  20. Hells yes...Quentin a 3 run triple. I f***ing love QUENTIN!!!!
  21. QUOTE(kjshoe04 @ Apr 6, 2008 -> 07:32 PM) I'd imagine we did near the beginning of the year. We really weren't so bad at the start last year. The bullpen was lights out the first month of the season. The wheels came off after that (injuries and piss poor pen did were the culprates). Rotation looked rock solid early on too, but than eventually came crashing apart as well (but it was after everything else had tanked). Offense was bad all year though. Sweet, Quentin's up and is going to hit a gapper.
  22. He definitely has an explosive bat. I look forward to seeing him get stronger (I would think being able to workout with better trainers and equipment should help him out with that). Plus having a fat pay check.
  23. Badass...despite blowing yesterday's game the Titans came back from a 4-0 deficit to have a major conference series win (road series to boot) against the #5 Anteaters of UCI. I'd say Fullerton will move up a couple spots in the polls (currently #25). Christian Colon (future major leaguer) is continuing to get more and more comfortable and Josh Fellahauer is a guy everyone in baseball should get more and more familiar with (he's a freaking stud out in CF...hits for average, power and can run).
