Reggie Bush
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) I guess I should be glad I nabbed him in my keeper league... Yes you should be. Only thing that will stop him is an injury and it would be sad for it to happen. He's a smart kid who has done a lot of New Orleans already and is just an insane athlete.

Midseason Top 20 coming soon
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:36 PM) I'm not saying top 10 Alex, but he at least has to be considered in the top 20. His numbers before tonight were just plain sick, and that was only like his 4th or 5th start. He's mostly been a reliever. And I shouldn't even point out that he just turned 20 this year. His numbers as a reliever are damn good even though he does struggle as a starter. He still should be on the list, maybe top 15. And you all will be sorry when you forget the name of the mighty Joseph Hunter.. Hunter is a damn good athlete. Problem is we pretty much make it a point to ignore recent draft picks from the list because they are so unproven. You really have no idea how a player is going to come so we like to give them a half season under the belts before putting them on the lists. The only real exception is McCulloch because he's a top round pick, is producing, and quite frankly our system stinks. Our 2007 preseaosn list will be much different than this list if I had to guess. Cassell Omogrosso Hunter Matt Long (if he figures things out) Texiera or whatever his name is Plenty of others

Preston Wilson DFA
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 09:38 PM) Baseball. Although with the year Mack is having, you could debate it. But he's better than Ozuna and Pods easily. Better careers, Preston Wilson. That said, for there roles I think those guys are better role/bench players. I'm not against the idea of Preston Wilson, but its one thing to just say he could play off the bench and its another for him to come here and be willing to do so. You got to have a positive attitude about it and I don't think he would.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) And you'd be saying what if the tables were turned? Amazing how the tide is starting to turn and now the games don't matter as much? GMAB. When you have a cushion they don't matter as much. The Tigers control there own destiny and sure it sucks to lose to the Sox, but bottom line is we've beat em all year and we still haven't gotten within striking distance any time recently. They don't have to beat us to win the division and they might not even have to go through us to get to the World Series. Ya, I take my chances in a 7 game series with the Tigers, but we got to do a lot more to get to them, they just have to play .500 ball and they are in, the Sox don't have that option.

Midseason Top 20 coming soon
QUOTE(whitesox61382 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 08:58 PM) I don't care how much power potential a guy has when he strikes out almost once every three AB and has a career minor league BA under two-fifty(including this season). danman, that list looks almost identical to a list I would put together(few minor changes here and there). It appears that we aren't too much different in our thinking. The only difference is that I would probably have Hernandez(P) over Omogrosso simple because he has shown two years of success and better peripherals. Cassel is a guy that I didn't mention who I am going to keep an eye on. One problem...Omogrosso's arm is in a whole nother league when compared to Hernandez. With Collaro this guy has serious power. Sure he may be a Russell Branyan but his swing has gotten shorter every season and he's really made strides as the season has went on in Bham. The kid is willing to learn and plenty of organizations would like to have a guy with his power potential (obviously he has plenty of holes in his game though, but so does pretty much every prospect in the Sox system).

Minnesota Twins Post Mortem Playoff Thread
QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Aug 11, 2006 -> 11:47 PM) It was his debut. He'll come around. Not sure what our scout have to do with his line... You can throw out the results of a pitchers first couple starts (whether good or bad). The only thing to watch for when a rookie comes up is the type of "stuff" he has, imo.

Reggie Bush
That one 40 some odd run he had was freaking outstanding. I've been watching NFL Huddle or whatever its called and all I had to see was that run and the speed he has to see that this kid is gonna be a special kind of player if he stays heatlhy. The Texans going to regret passing him by for a DE.

Preston Wilson DFA
QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 06:46 PM) not to mention he needs to be waiver or dfa'd... there's no point to discuss it. preston wilson is a good defender, and used soley against lefties would be a fine addition... BUT who do you get rid of to bring him on? Or, I guess with 40-man's coming up... Only thing I can think of doing is place someone on the DL just before it happens, than squeeze Wilson onto the team just before September so he too is eligible to play in the post-season if we get there and need him. However, we didn't consider Jose Cruz Jr and I doubt we'll consider Preston Wilson. It appears this team is going to stick it out as is.

it feels like 2005 again
QUOTE(SoxFanForever @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 05:58 PM) Who pissed in your Cheerios? I just call it like I see it. All season long I waited and waited for the pitching to do what it was supposed to and now I'm at the point where they are going to have to prove to me (and the league) that they have made strides and are getting better. Too many people just assume our pitchers can turn on a magic switch and while I hate being a pessimist, I see myself more as a realist and the bottom line is unless our pitching continues to improve and gets things turned around (which I've long said is very possible, especially since I've been the guy preaching Javier Vazquez as of late) its all going to be a moot point (even if we do get in the playoffs). Of course, I'd be the first to admit that this year (sans the Angels who may not get in) no team really has a dominate rotation (I do not think the Tigers have one, especially since I expect Verlander to wear down and I'm not a fan of Roberson or the last man in there pen).

Preston Wilson DFA
QUOTE(Wanne @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 06:35 PM) Seriously...there must be something behind this. Maybe he's got a crap attitude because he expected to be the full-time starter. The guy really doesn't have a lot of plate discipline either. Very odd. You don't get rid of a guy with splits like that against LHP. I realize he strikes out a lot but there has to be something more. Either he wants more playing time and the Astros told him he wasn't going to get much down the stretch or he's just been a thorn in there sides for a while. That said I remember Kenny discussing the name Preston Wilson back when he was with the Rockies. I'm a fan of Jose Cruz Jr though because he plays a better CF.

it feels like 2005 again
I don't think this team is any better than they've been most of the year. In 05 we had studly pitching pretty much all season, aside from a handful of starts we have not had that at all this year. Count was awesome, Vaz had an aweosme start two turns ago, but you know what, consistent QS's is what makes a team dangerous and we have yet to show that we can do it. Till than, I'll just continue to assume we will not make any noise (even if we do get in).

Midseason Top 20 coming soon
QUOTE(danman31 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 01:40 PM) He was considered, but missed out. He'd probably be in the 21-25 range if we went that far. He's 22 in low A ball with mediocre results, I'm not thrilled. On the other side, I'm a fan of Richard. Good arm, little old but thats because he was a collegiate player and is a bit more raw than the typical college guy. However, I was impressed when I saw him pitch.

We win tomorrow and we win this division
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) With them heading to Boston and us hosting KC for 4 games....hence tomorrow is HUGE. You still have to play the games. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) Um, one game at a time. Remember, we have 4 in Detroit in two weeks. That's going to be a lot more important then these games are. However, thats 2 weeks into the future. Right now tomorrow's game is the biggest of the season. If we don't play good baseball, 2 weeks from now may not matter. It starts with just going out each and every day, giving it your best and playing fundemental baseball, I've long said we do that we are golden. The bad news is, we've had a hell of a time consistently doing it this season and we've been lucky for the most part that our offense has been ridiculously good.

We win tomorrow and we win this division
QUOTE(Wanne @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 01:05 PM) Detroit may be feelin the pressure...5 errors in 2 games. Here we come baby!!! The nice part is this past week, we've actually been the team winning games we had no business to win while for most of the season it was us losing games we should have won.

We win tomorrow and we win this division
QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 01:00 PM) If we win tomorrow AND win 3 of 4 at Detroit, I'll get on this bus. If we get good pitching, no one will stop us. I've said it all year, but I'm yet to be convinced that the good pitching is there yet. Baby steps though and they are making some strides. The ridiculous performance of the pen today was super sweet though.
-
Is the East a bit overrated?
I'm just going to say one thing...the Yanks and BoSox absolutely spanked us a few weeks back. We had our chances against the Yanks, but they still should have taken the series if it weren't for Arod's defense.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!
- We win tomorrow and we win this division
Tomorrow is an important step, but bottom line is we go as far as the pitching will take us so we'll have to see if they can continue to throw quality starts and if the pen can do what it did today, well things would definately be better.- 8/12 @ 12:20 PM Game Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:32 PM) Exactly, a 5 inning, 3 ER game might not look good in terms of ERA, but that will keep you in every game. That's why I get so frustrated when Ozzie leaves the starters in, and they go from 6 innings, 3 ER to 6.1 innings-5 ER. Fact of the matter is we can't go all season with that, but I think the plan (if the team gets into the post-season) will be to use the pen a lot in the playoffs (as opposed to last year) unless our starters turn things around before than. Otherwise tell em to go 5 and hope our pen arms can do the rest.- 8/12 @ 12:20 PM Game Thread
QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:27 PM) And of course, you can only do what we're trying to do with our pen if you get good starting pitching. The Angels were able to use a strong pen to get them a world series title. There rotation that year was horrid, especially in the post-season, but they got 5 or 6 innings out of the starters and than just turned it to the pen and came back.- 8/12 @ 12:20 PM Game Thread
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:25 PM) The potential for sickness is there, they just need to be more consistent. Neal Cotts needs to get better and so does Riske, but stuff wise there is no better back-end of a bullpen. If healthy and productive these guys (Thorty, Mac, Jenksy) can be the Nasty Boys Version Deux and than some.- 8/12 @ 12:20 PM Game Thread
Thus far I think this is what Kenny is hoping we can do a lot more often with our pen. Of course we still need Big Bad Bobby to come in and do his thing for an inning.- 8/12 @ 12:20 PM Game Thread
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Aug 12, 2006 -> 12:03 PM) Red Sox are by far my most hated club. It's not even close. Ashlee Simpson hates em too- 8/12 @ 12:20 PM Game Thread
Wow, Mac does that more often and stays heatlhy and I'll forget who Cortes/Lummy were. That was some pitching.- 8/12 @ 12:20 PM Game Thread
I don't care if we blow this, Ozz made the right call here. - We win tomorrow and we win this division
