2006 draft order
QUOTE(Randar68 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 08:22 AM) Yes, they did. And coming out of the draft I said he was the highest ceiling guy they left un-signed, which included Donald Veal, Greg Moviel, and a few other very talented guys... I'll see if I can find my post-draft report on him, because basically, 3 years ago, I called him a future first round pick. I remember you making that prediction. I think we were all dissapointed (can't say we were shocked) when Hodge didn't sign. He's a very very talented offensive prospect.

2006 FutureSox Top 25: 5-1
QUOTE(Randar68 @ Apr 21, 2006 -> 09:04 AM) I'd only move him if the following happens: 1) Sox sign Crede to a 3-year deal or longer 2) The Sox draft Wes Hodges this year. Otherwise, I'd keep him at 3rd. If Crede shows he's heatlhy I think we'll see him resigned. Fields is a pretty damn good hitter though so he's going to have value even if he can't play 3rd and he's a good enough athlete to move to the OF. I do agree on holding off on the move though. However, if Joe Crede went down, I'd be scared s***less at the idea of Fields coming up and being our everyday 3rd baseman. Not because of his bat, but becasue I think we'd see him make 3 errors a week and a team built on pitching can not suffer on defense. Crede is the best, if not one of the best in the league when it comes to defending 3rd and he's one of the better offensive 3rd baseman. He's became much more focused at the plate and that will give him a slight increase in avg this year. If Crede can ever turn into a .270-.280 hitter (something I believe he's capable of) he will become a perennial all star because of his power and defense to go with a solid average.

Sox Should Make Signing Buehrle Top Priority
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) The Red Sox are best served to make sure blister gate doesn't happen again this year before tendering a long term deal to Beckett. And I don't think he's worth as much as Mark is as far as a contract goes, but Boston will most likely overpay to keep him. Your right in the sense that he's not worth as much and isn't as good of a pitcher, but people pay big bucks for guys with Beckett's arm and stuff. Beckett is twice the pitcher Burnett is (however Beckett has his blister issues) and someone will offer a very similar deal. I also would never pay Buehrle 15 or 17 mill a year which I saw some people say he's worth. Burnett money (well just above that) is a fair market value, especially in a market that has a few great starters and not just Burnett available.

2006 draft order
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 03:00 PM) Didn't the Sox draft Wes Hodges out a high school a couple of years ago? They have a histoy of redrafting players like they did with Chris Getz and Ricky Brooks. Yep, at the time he had broke his hammate bone and became a switch hitter because of it. The guy is a total stud.

AL Central Central
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 20, 2006 -> 01:03 PM) O's now up 9-4. You know, for all the talk about our bullpen woes, there's is just as suspect--if not moreso. I've said all along that I think they are incredibly over-rated.

Gammon on WEEI
Even Wirtz wouldn't be that stupid. All the games are sold out so he wouldn't do anything. However if things ever got bad, he could definately run that franchise into the ground.

4/19 Games
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 10:29 PM) I'm with that thinking. How old is Malone again? Seems like he's been in Bham for years now. I'm not knocking Corwin, but the odds are against him considering all the arm troubles he's had and the fact that he's been notoriously known for being a little lazy. Now I have no idea if his work ethic has changed over the years.

4/19 Games
QUOTE(Jordan4life_2006 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 10:17 PM) 2-3 walks a game? That's still pretty bad. Malone will never be a stud. Doesn't have the command for that. A viable lefty reliever who could turn into a pretty good one (if he can stay healthy and improve his command enough) is something I could buy.

BP's "Top 50"--Where's Buehrle?
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 09:24 PM) I think right now there are some people who would put Kendrick over Wood, largely based on the fact that Kendrick has perfomed at a higher minor league level than Wood and has shown very good numbers in batting average, which I think sometimes translates better than power numbers to the big leagues. I don't think there is a scout out there that will say that Kendrick has more power potential than Wood. Nor is there a scout out there that would rate Kendrick over Wood. All that said Kendrick is a damn good prospect himself. Would be #1 in our system.

BP's "Top 50"--Where's Buehrle?
QUOTE(TLAK @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 05:25 PM) He says he's just looking at trade value. Could someone splain to me how Velander has a higher trade value than Brandon McCarthy? I'd buy Verlander having a higher trade value than McCarthy. I think given the choice a lot of teams would go with the guy with the sexy stuff as opposed to the guy who could pitch. Its just like 5 years ago, depsite very comparable numbers (if not better numbers by Buehrle) most GM's would have given up more for Kerry Wood than they would have for Mark Buehrle.

BP's "Top 50"--Where's Buehrle?
QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) Not one White Sox player. And there are even players that arent in the major leagues on this list. What a slap in the face to the White Sox. Not just the Sox, plenty of teams. Hell if you are going to use some statistical indicator, I'd expect a guy like JD Drew to be on that list. When he's heatlhy he puts up very good numbers.

BP's "Top 50"--Where's Buehrle?
More reason why I think a lot of statisticians are flat out DUMB. This is one of the most pathetic top 50 lists I've ever seen. A 2nd grader could come up with a better list. Putting someone like Felix Hernandez as the 7th best player in baseball...BAHAHAHA. Having a guy like Howie Kendrick over a Jake Peavy or Carlos Beltran. Hell both Uptons are in the top 25. If thats the case why do the Drays SUCK??? Plus these guys are actually implying all contracts are equal which makes there list even more RETARDED. BP is about as crappy of a place as things get. Adam Dunn, 19th best, my freaking ass. This has to be about as bad of an article I've ever seen written. Hell Billy Beane and Depodesta would fall off a chair if they read this stupid s***.

2006 FutureSox Top 25: 5-1
QUOTE(Jim Spencer @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 05:44 PM) So far Josh Fields is the top hitter down in Charlotte, but I believe he has 4 errors already. If Joe Crede asks for the moon and KW doesn't sign him, I wouldn't be too upset seeing Fields at 3rd next year. I just wish Ryan Sweeney would start hitting. He does have 3 hits tonight Right now i'd be very scared at Fields at 3rd. He just can't field. I wouldn't be shocked if he eventually went the route of Carlos Lee and moved to LF (or RF for that matter). However I am sure the Sox will give him plenty more time to see if he can get things settled at first. He's a good athlete, but he has a lot of trouble getting himself in an improper fielding position.

4/18 Games
Pedro Lopez hit a game winning 2 run homer for the Knights. Haeger gave up 2 runs (0 earned) in 8 innings while striking out 8. Had a really nice game (No Decision). Lowered his ERA to .45. Josh Fields kept up the hot streak with 2 doubles. Lummy gave up his 1st two runs of the season in 5 innings. Also walked 3 but still had a solid game in a Barons win. He struck out 6 and Rusty Tucker got the win in the 10th. Mark Quinn had 3 hits. Whisler had another mediocre to poor start for Winston Salem, who has now lost 4 in a row. Whisler gave up 4 runs in 4 innings (5 hits, 3 walks). Lucy picked up another 2 hits (.323 AVG) as did Kelly (.413 AVG). Kanny lost 6-4. Noe Rodriguez picked up the loss. He k'd 9 in 5 innings, but gave up 3 runs (4 hits and 0 BB's). Orlando was back in action (missed time with a sore index finger) and picked up a hit and a stolen base. Daron Roberts had 3 hits. Salvardor Sanchez and Welker had two hits a piece. Brandon Allen's funk continues as he went 0-4 (now batting .098

McCarthy - Shades of Carrie Woods?
QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 06:55 PM) It's not the motion which causes problems, it's your arm motion on the pitch/follow-thru. Wood always threw across his body, and put a tremendous amount of torque on his elbow with his slider. McCarthy's overhand curve shouldn't put as much stress on his arm. Plus he's primarly a FB, Changeup pitcher and both of those pitches are not known for putting added stress on your arm (well not like a slider and other power breaking balls). I think Bmac will be just fine, plus I dont' think he has a violent delivery.

Your Glove
Still sport my Mizuno. I've used two gloves for most of my baseball career. I'm in dire need of a new one though, but I hate breaking in gloves. I also have a 1st baseman's mitt, but don't use it now that I don't play anymore.

Early returns looking good on my prediction of Pods hitting over .300 on the week (I'm referring to this week's avg, not season avg).

Contreras and Contracts
QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 03:47 PM) Why should it matter if you're the ace or the "5th starter"? It's a single season award, not a career award. If you have to be the ace of your team to win it, then it's no longer a seasonal award. Because people are going to give credit to the guy that faces other teams aces more so. The media is also going to give credit to the guy that goes out and stops the losing streaks when necessary. The definition of an ace and a 5th starter is different. I like Garland more than about every poster on this site (aside from Tru and Murcie) yet he wasn't getting that award over Colon (not if I was voting). Garland is better than a 5th starter though and would be an ace on many teams. I'm not counting him out because of that, but when a race is close I'm going to look at things like that (ie who has the pressure on him to succeed in big games, who does the team look at to be the stopper, did he do that job, etc).

Sox vs Royals 4-18
QUOTE(jphat007 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 05:43 PM) Ball to the gap caught by JD. Good job Bmac! Wonder if there is somebody different in the 8th. Nah, Ozzie sticks with Bmac longer than most. I don't blame him either. If Bmac looks good why not stick with him. We want to keep his stamina up and the only way to do that is to have him have a lot of 2 and 3 inning appearances.

Sox vs Royals 4-18
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 05:39 PM) I wonder if Ozzie is going to have a quick hook with Garland this season. I doubt it. I think this was more Ozzie being careful not to turn this into a bad game. Jon has had some problems early this year and its best to take him out on a positive note. Jon definately improved tonight and stayed away from the big inning. Wasn't really hit hard (according to you guys) and is in line for a win. Now lets keep this lead.

Sox vs Royals 4-18
Way to go Uribe. Now we got to hope Jon can keep this lead and that our bats can muster up some more insurance runs.
