  1. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:57 PM) Even better news is we won't have to see Everett playing everyday once Frank is back. How Everett has as many RBI's as he does I'll never know. Its not like Konerko who has actually hit the ball hard. Everett has looked awful in pretty much every at bat I've seen him in the past month and somehow has gotten a few clutch hits. Oh and Timo...good riddance, that turd should be gone once Gload/Thomas are back. With those two back and Everett into a PH/Role playing spot than the Sox will have a drastically better lineup with Crede the lone hole (and I call him a hole...have you seen the HOLE in his swing). I should add, this isn't something I'm saying because the club loss. This is just something I've seen for too long and its to the point where its no longer a slump, but more a trend.
  2. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:56 PM) Methinks you over estimate this guy. Prior challenged us over the middle of the plate. If he read the scouting report and just painted the outside corner he might of had a no hitter against us. Our guys are pull baseball only hitters. Throw it over the center or middle of the plate and they will mash it out for a long home run. You paint the outside corner and they cannot adjust at all and attempt to pull the outside corner. Joe Credes approach tonight was embarrassing. Stepping in the bucket, head up trying to pull the outside pitch. I watched the game, the fastballs were pretty straight. They had some velocity on them. Everett on 3-1 not catching up to a fastball down the middle of the plate twice and then grounding out after he pulls the slow slider was silly also. Our hitters have to do a better job of adjusting. There is a particular way that most pitchers will attack the sox. Now the top shelf pitchers like Colon, Pior, Zambrano, Johan will pitch in. The rest especially the plus six era guys just hit the outside corner. Last year we watched as crap pitcher after crap pitcher would look like Cy Young because all they did was spot the fastball on the outside corner. How many times did our offense get 4 hit, 3 hit 2 hit by some plus six era guy. This game is about adjustments, after seeing a patter. Like first pitch fastball on the outside corner, take the bat off your shoulders and take a chance. His stuff was dynomite and he was painting the black. Now I won't disagree with you on Crede, I've officially given up on him as of tonight. The other issue was Everett (or should I say lame ass) and Timo were in the lineup. The two of them are worthless. Everett has been looking awful at the plate for some time and I'm sick of it. Rowand should officially be the new 3 hole hitter and Everett should be done once Frank is back (minus the ocassional ab's). Dye is back in gear and there is no reason for Everett to ever play more than one straight game in the field (unless he can get into a groove). If the Sox need an everyday outfielder they should look to AAA in Anderson. However, while I am pencilling out those three schlubs on this team It still makes no difference, they ran into a guy that flat out dominated...case closed.
  3. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:54 PM) The thing I don't understand is that half this f***in team is new and still the same old problems. Matchup against a rookie = shutout, west coast trips = f***ed. This is different. Rookie or not the guy pitched amazing. You couldn't throw the ball much better than he did today and hell the SOx lost. They didn't stand a chance in this one (it could of been closer) but they weren't going to get a run off Santana today.
  4. Santana pitched brilliantly. Jon had some tough luck and the game could of been closer, but there wasn't much the Sox could do against Santana. Santana has flat out nasty stuff and was throwing strikes all day long. Nothing you can do but tip your cap and move on. Its quite obvious this was by far the best pitching performance the Sox have faced all season and there is no harm in losing this way (Santana was dynomite). Hell I didn't see hardly any, if any opportunities where the Sox missed a cookie. On one random sidenote, I am no longer a supporter of Joe Crede. It has nothing to do with dropping that ball today (he's a good defensive player) but I'm sick and tired of his long ass swing. Problem is as of now the Sox have no other options, but you can bet your ass Crede is going to be dealt at the deadline and that the Sox will have a new 3rd baseman (which will definately help out this offense). I supported Crede for years, but today that support ends. He hasn't adjusted s*** to his swing and its long and ugly and good lord does he have slow hands.
  5. QUOTE(JimH @ May 23, 2005 -> 05:47 PM) No team will want to pick up the rest of the $6M salary so it may take a while before he lands somewhere. All he has to do is clear waivers. Than the Reds owe him the 6 million and if he signs with another team the Reds owe him the 6 mill - the league minimum. All the Sox would have to pay him is league minimum once he clears waivers (and he will).
  6. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:30 PM) Because they understood that he throws very straight fastballs on the outside corner. Our guys are falling over trying to pull the ball. Just watch the game...he didn't throw anything straight tonight. Not one pitch of his wasn't moving (mainly with sinking action) and he was painting the black. Santana pitched like he was capable and there is no harm in this loss. Its a tough loss for JG but Santana flat out earned it and pitched what I'll call the best pitching performance the Sox have faced all season (he was 10 times more nasty than Prior and Prior was nasty on Sunday).
  7. The Sox have won just 13 games since 1995 in Anaheim. Remember I told you guys, this place has to be as bad as Oakland if not worse. They are now 25 games under .500 against the Angels in Anaheim since 1995. Thats downright pathetic. Now you see why I shudder at the thought of these next 3 games. I'll be freaking exstatic if the Sox can just split this series. And there really was no harm in this loss. Garland pitched good (had some tough luck hits) and well Santana was downright filthy. He was throwing strikes and like I said in the game log has tremendous stuff. He isn't one of the best pitching prospects in all of baseball for nothing.
  8. QUOTE(beck72 @ May 23, 2005 -> 05:04 PM) You're thinking Cliff Pennington, the SS from texas A+ M. He's a switch hitter as well; high OBP, more walks than K's Thats it. I'm awful with names so I typically remember the state they are in and try to come up with some whacko ass idea of the name in my head, LOL.
  9. No idea on his timetable, but he's supposed to play at one point or another this year. I'll try and ask once finals are over to see when he's supposed to be back. Worse case I'll ask Wilder in the interview
  10. Ya Levine was acting as if the Cubs were on the brink of making a pretty good size trade. There is a post over in ATH in regards to the Cubs move. Interesting on the Ozzie front. The way I see it there was no reason to do it this soon, but I don't have a problem with it I guess. Ozzie has done a good job this year. I 've questioned some of his decisions but he keeps the team lose and you can't argue with the record.
  11. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Maybe this is why they cut Edinger... http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...ack=1&cset=true Ya, but Edinger hit all of them on Sunday before he was cut. I think it had more to do with the Bears being respectful of Edingers wishes. HE felt he was the odd man out and wanted an opportunity to catch on with another team as a starter (and he will). That may not of been the case had the Bears waited and waited.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ May 23, 2005 -> 03:10 PM) Join us! You don't understand the POWER of the DORK SIDE! Is that you Jim?
  13. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:46 PM) It is an intriguing thought for sure. I am just afaid we would have another Koch on our hands is all. He was still young too, but just didn't have it anymore. Only one difference in my mind. The Sox were paying Koch a whole lot of money and would be paying Graves league minimum. If they can't fix it, he's gone. Its not like Viz is doing all that much better and Graves has a better track record than him. Plus a decrease in velocity hurts a power pitcher a lot more than a finesse pitcher.
  14. QUOTE(shagar69 @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:19 AM) obviously this trade would NEVER do down, but i would do it in a heartbeat. IMO Teixiera and Blalock are the 2 best young hitter in the game. I'm with you, I'd be all over this deal. Blalock and Tex will be perennial MVPs and are going to be more affordable. They would give the Sox way more production offensively than Crede/Rowand and the Sox would than either have Everett play LF with Pods in CF and Dye in right (once Thomas is back) or the option of promoting Anderson. The only flaw would be that you'd have Konerko and Tex and Tex is the better player but you'd first have to deal Konerko as well. Never going to happen but in short I'd do this deal and wouldn't think twice. I love Bmac and all but these two guys are awesome hitters and Blalock is a plus fielding 3rd baseman as well.
  15. QUOTE(Steff @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) August we can do.. and it's better for him also I think. I'll take care of that. Tailgating is fine as long as it doesn't mean full grill detail. Alright sounds good...looking forward to it
  16. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:24 PM) So there's "almost ZERO difference" between facing a DH like David Ortiz or a pinch-hitter like Todd Hollandsworth? Wow. No, I'm referring to the difference between the 9 hitter in the AL and the 9 hitter in the NL when your closing. Most teams (Both AL and NL) have a few power hitters and if your going through the 3-4-5 of the lineup regardless of whether the team has a dH or not, its usually going to be tough sailing. And the difference between some 9 hole hitter in the AL and a pinch hitter in the NL is very minimal. If someone looked at the stats I'm sure there isn't much any fluctuation between a closers sucess in the AL/NL in terms of ERA, etc.
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:21 PM) I guess that's the thing, depending on the person. Personally, I'd prefer the safer pick, the guy that might not be the superstar, but the consistent .270/.360 guy over the guy that might be a superstar, yet also (if he doesn't "catch on") has a huge chance of being a bust. I guess that's the GM/scouting director's job, mixing and matching as far as those "boom or bust" picks and the "safe" picks. Are you guys still looking at getting that Q & A with Wilder, that Jim had mentioned? Ya, its finals week for me right now (I'm taking a little break...had one this morning and another tonight...then one each day until Thursday...although that ain't stopping me from going to the Sox games the next 3 days, LOL). I'm hoping to get a time set up for Friday but it may not be till early next week. But it should be taken care of relatively shortly. We also have a few more potentially in store. So if you got any questions make sure to post them and I'll do my best to get some of them answered. The overall goal is to have this one focused more on the players the Sox have, with a little insight as to who they draft and then were hoping to be able to set up one a few weeks after the draft where we can discuss some of the new players.
  18. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) I never said that he was NEVER good. I just don't think he's THAT good anymore. I also don't think that he was ever the dominating closer that you make him out to be. Dominating closers don't have a 3.95 ERA in the N.L. It's a shame that you can't respond to my posts just because I disagree with you. NL/AL big freaking difference. Its not near that big of a deal when your closing out the game because your never going to face the opposing pitcher. Sure they may not have a DH, but they will at least have a semi decent pinch hitter for the most part when the pitchers position hits. There is almost ZERO difference between closing in the AL or NL Jabroni.
  19. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:18 PM) The quote is in my sig... "I have to know how to curse in english, spanish, japanese, and whatever language Uribe is speaking." -- Ozzie Guillen, April, 2005. ROFL...thats gotta be one of my all time fav quotes.
  20. QUOTE(Steff @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:17 PM) I'm gonna be here on Friday then I leave Saturday morning for a few days. Can you guys come in on Thursday...? I might be able to swing a card game if you can. He wants to play bad... Can't plane tickets are purchased and I'm doing training for my internship just before I fly out. Than when I get back that Monday I start. Wish I could though. Maybe in August? I plan on coming out for that Twinkie series. So tailgate on that Friday?
  21. QUOTE(thomsonmi @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:16 PM) I play shortstop for my softball team. Last year, a runner on 2nd asked me if there were two outs. Even though I knew there was only one I said "yes." The batter popped out and the runner took off for an easy double play. Bad sportsmanship on my part? Or just gamesmanship? I thought it was pretty funny just as I feel about Uribe's move. My daughter's high school team runs a play where they pretend to pick off the runner on 2nd, the fielders all of a sudden start running around like the pitcher has thrown the ball into the outfield. The runner steps off second and the pitcher tags them out. It works all of the time. Well I know one thing. If I'm playing with my friends I'm definately trying to make them look like an idiot and will do everything and anything to aid in that
  22. QUOTE(Steff @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Oh.. he got is due on Saturday. Jim and him talked.. don't know what he said to him as I was talking to Jr (who specifically said hi to you and Mario and Mike and Alex - BTW). But little MVP walked away with a smile from ear to ear.. :puke :rolly Those were good times...are you gonna be at any of the Dodger series. I think Boz mentioned you'd be out of town?
  23. QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) His english is a good point, I don't remember who it was but some Sox player was quoted as saying something like, "Yeah, we never know what the hell Juany's saying" Hell I thought that was Ozzie. Or it was something along the lines of you can understand half of what I'm saying, but no one knows what the hell Juan is saying.
  24. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:11 PM) He saved 40 games with a 3.95 ERA in the N.L. That's not necessarily good, that's a lot of luck. Luck...maybe, but its not lucky to put up good numbers every single major league season sans one (where he was moved into the rotation). Gimme a f***ing break....the guy isnt' some one year wonder he was one of the better relievers in baseball for a few years and was still a good reliever the past couple (minus his stint in the rotation). Why I respond to your posts I'll never know. Now he may come to a new team and fail, but to say this guy is a turd and was just lucky over the years...ROFL. Jamie Moyer was lucky too.
  25. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ May 23, 2005 -> 02:03 PM) That's really dissappointing. I'm sorry, but that's a poor choice (Lucy over Suzuki). If he's the leader you say he is, that makes it ten times worse, because aren't the Sox one of those teams that really looks for good character? Yuck... a guy shouldn't go second round just because he can play good defense, and that seems like the only thing Lucy has done well in his short time in the minors... Well one thing Lucy has is a s***load more tools than Suzuki ever will. Lucy flat out has a catchers build and is a freakish athlete behind the plate as opposed to most catchers. The problem was he was raw and with that its going to take him some while to pan things out and of course there is a higher bust likelihood. However, Lucy has the ability to be a very good catcher, both behind the plate and at the plate. We'll just have to see. I was also down on the move but the more I read and heard about Lucy the more I understood in a sense. It was one of those high risk, high reward, high bust type of scenarios and I think since the Sox had so many picks they figured they could take that chance rather than play it safe. We'll see how it pans out, but I'm just trying to give the Sox perspective on this. And its easy to 2nd guess after the fact, but I know there were a lot of people who didn't think Suzuki had the tools and sometimes tools get looked at a little too much, just like velocity does.
