  1. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 22, 2005 -> 01:11 PM) The only way mccarthy will be in the rotation long term this year is a six man rotation... which will not happen. He'll be in the rotatoin for a long time. Duque isn't that good and when/if he ends up being out (its just a matter of time) than Brandon is going to take over, dominate, and not give up his spot. Fact of the matter is Duque isn't that grand. Now this may not be the time that Brandon takes over the rotation, but odds are its going to happen at some point this year. Anyone that thinks Duque will make it threw this year healthy is crazy (or at least I think they are, LOL).
  2. QUOTE(doUrememberwhen @ May 22, 2005 -> 01:08 PM) Vizc, Walker r both strong candidate. Timo will not be sent down for the simple fact that Ozzie 'ricky retardo' like him too much. Gload and Hurt will both be back and the possibility of a 6 man roto might pop it's head up. The other question is, is Ricky Retardo smart enough to realize that vizc timo and walker r all wastes of space in our dugout, NOT LIKELY. They aren't going to demote Viz. He may be struggling this year but he's also been a long time horse in the pen and I'm sure the Sox are going to stick with it and hope he can pitch out of his struggles. If he can't he'll be moved around the deadline with a prospect for another quality reliever. Viz has proven he's a good major league pitcher, no reason to give up on him now, not yet. He's sucked this year but he's more than capable of just turning it on and dominating for the rest of the year. Hell part of having htis great record is you have the luxury of being a little more patient and allowing guys to get out of funks when they usually woudl have to just riddle on the bench with you sticking with the hot hand (in the end you'll typically wear down that hot hand and end up losing due to too few guys carrying the show). I have no idea if this last paragraph makes any sense, lol.
  3. I like it. Two straight poor seasons for Edinger. I don't know if Brien is the answer, but I like the two rooks the Bears have in camp plus I've always been a fan of Nick Setta (he's got a hell of a leg).
  4. No complaints out of me. I'm happy taking 2 out of 3. Of course I'd be happier with the sweep, but still, win series...you do that and you'll go a long way in this game
  5. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) This is going to be interesting, all of the sudden we have to much depth, great problem to have just makes for interesting decisions. The obvious one is walker, next I'd have to say Timo, I'm probably the biggest Timo supporter here but Willie and Pablo can do to much for this team, play a ton of positions, lay down bunts, pinch run, etc. After that when Ross is ready to go it's going to be real interesting. If Brandon pitches awesome again against Texas then I really don't know what the hell to do. I'll be pissed when it ends up being Willie that gets demoted because the organizatoin has this hard on for Timo.
  6. QUOTE(3E8 @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:52 PM) Any reason why he wasn't throwing change ups? I thought it may have been part of a strategic plan by him to only break them out on the third time through the lineup. But I never saw them. I was waiting for that too, the 3rd time around but wasn't seeing any. Thats why in teh back of my head I had him pretty much pencilled in for 7 after he got Burnitz out (little did I know Ozzie was going rush out there and pull him with Ramirez at the plate).
  7. I'd assume it will be Walker for the 1st of Frank/Gload and then it will be interesting for who goes next. The thing with Viz is he does have good stuff. He just needs to start throwing his fastball for strikes. Once he does that he'll go back to his pretty dominate ways (the guy was a damn good reliever for the Brewcrew and a total workhorse). The Sox still have a plus pen and one game ain't going to tell me otherwise. I'd send Timo down when the 2nd of Gload/Thomas are back up. Or just flat deal Timo for whatever. Timo's worthless in my book, although he is obviously good friends with Uribe.
  8. Shingo actually looked really good today. Well he looked good on 3 of the batters his face...the 1st two and than the final out. His fastball was zipping and damn did he make Burnitz look like a fool. I kind of think Shingo is getting closer.
  9. QUOTE(knightni @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:48 PM) I'd be all for sending Viz back to the NL for a decent prospect, then moving Contreras to the BP after El Duque comes back. Hell no, I ain't moving Count...he's pitched better than Duque.
  10. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:44 PM) Ozzie would also not know that since he claims to not look at stats. Ya, but its his bench coaches job to look at those stats and know him. Although I don't think Harold does much anything. Maybe he helps Walker out.
  11. QUOTE(danman31 @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) Ding. There was no rational thinking involved in taking BMac out there. He was pitching well and he had just gotten the last batter out. It wasn't like he was losing it. And to put in the same type of pitcher sets it all up for the Cubs. At least give the hitters a change of pace (Cotts). After he got Burnitz I was thinking Bmac was going to go 7. Ramirez had hit it hard but Brandon was rolling and after that you get Corey, Blanco and Prior which isn't all that gouh (especially the way they are hitting). That and Bmac had it on cruise control minus a few pitches he left up in the zone (he pitched good and he's got the ability to pitch even better). It was flat out dumb taking him out, especially because the only time he looked wild that inning was the one pitch he threw to DL (who he was just trying to hammer inside the entire game). Fact was Ozzie had his mind made up long before that and I know what Ozzie was thinking I just don't think it was the right call (and said it to myself right when he made the call).
  12. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) Every team knows Viz throws only one pitch and all the hitters are aware of this and lay off it when it's low and when it hangs the crush hit. He has been a piece of s*** ever since the start of the year and every time he is in, it seems he lets a run score, whether it be his or someone else's. If Viz could throw his fastball for strikes he'd be a lot more dominate, unfortunately the only thing he throws for strikes is his slider and pitchers just wait for him to leave it up (and he does it far too often) and bam...HR.
  13. QUOTE(chimpy2121 @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) Yeah, it's so sad...they celebrate after that? I dont see anything to celebrate, except moving a game up on Stl. Sox won the series, Prior went 130 pitches (Dusty is a pitcher killer), Cubs bullpen still sucks. The only reason I care about losing today is that we passed up an opurtunity to move another game up on the Twins. BUt it could be worse, the Twins could have won. BMac...Major props to you, go out and dominate Texas on Friday. I'm only bummed because Bmac pitched well enough and deserved his first ML win. But he'll get one soon enough...hopefully it will come against Texas later on this week
  14. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:45 PM) How many times you think he threw his change up? Seemed like only a handful of times to me. Only one time stuck out in my head and it was a changeup he threw to Dlee. It was a good one too, but aside from that he didn't throw any others for strikes that I saw. The funny thing is he was throwing his changeup so much more than the curve down in Tuscon, but I think part of the reason for that is that the curve ball just doesn't break as well in Tuscon. Brandon does have a plus curve and he definately showed it. Hell, just watching him and Prior you can see some sort of semblance. I don't know if Bmac will be able to be as good as Prior, but I think he's got a shot to be close and he has the tools to succeed quickly in the majors (and not have a long adjustment period...ie good control, very sharp/mentally tough, repeats his delivery).
  15. QUOTE(Princess Dye @ May 22, 2005 -> 12:19 PM) aaah. i know it's not his regular gig, but several times Moose Skowron's quick reaction (yes!) has gotten my hopes up..... and each time it ends up in Sox disaster. i.e DuBois HR, Iguchi DP in the 8th Ya, he was busy saying pop out. The more I saw the replay the more I could see that being the case. As in major league...it looked like it was going to "too high". Moose seems like a nice guy and said a few funny things, but I prefer someone else as the guest 3rd man, although it is something I wouldn't mind seeing a little more often.
  16. Way to go Brandon Hell of an outing. Funny thing is it could of been even better, but he must not of had much of a feel for his changeup down in the pen before the start today. Still, fanfreakingtastic Brandon. May it be the 1st of many starts with the Sox
  17. What a game. I'll stick take two out of 3. Sox lost this one on Uribe's failure with the runner on 3rd and what I'll call a mistake in relieving Bmac too early, imo. I thought Brandon was rolling and there was no way I was going to take him out. Ramirez had hit him good, but it wasn't like Bmac was hanging pitches and well frankly I have zero confidence in Viz right now (he's just hanging everything or so it seems, but at least the velocity on his fastball was better this outing). Really though, can't complain, Sox were in this game and Bmac did a hell of a job. I was way more comfortable with him on the mound than Duque (remember I'm not much at all of a Duque fan so I'm bias and well frankly I think Bmac is a stud). I still don't know why Brandon wasn't throwing his changeup. I saw him throw one to Dlee who was just way out in front of it but that was it. His curve was looking really good though.
  18. QUOTE(JimH @ May 22, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) They have their best defensive lineup out there, good idea with it being McCarthy's first start. I thought maybe Ozuna in for Uribe but Uribe's defense outweighs his hitting slump. Exactly...when I had saw all that stuff I was worried. I was wondering why Ozzie would put one of the worse defensive lineups the Sox could have out there for a rookie. I think you got to do your best to at least catch the ball and not create a need for Bmac to get extra outs. On a sidenote, I shudder at the thought of Pods playing anywhere in the outfield, let alone CF and when you mix it with Everett out there defensively as well....well thats just ugly.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 22, 2005 -> 09:14 AM) I'd like to see Jon and AJ signed long term before anything else. The idea with Dye at first is definitely an interesting one. Anderson is going to be starting next year, no doubt about it. Basically the one major place there is going to be an opening is first depending on what happens with Pauly. Anyways, there is going to be some serious range in the outfield next year. I'd like to see Pods move to the DH spot and if you have an OF have Dye, Rowand, Anderson next year (If Thomas is gone). Pods is an AWFUL defensive left fielder.
  20. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 22, 2005 -> 09:13 AM) I strongly disagree with this. Regardless of the numbers he puts up in the 2nd half he's a much greater injury risk going for. That's going to drive down his price considerably. If he helps the White Sox win in the post season is that not worth $10M in 2006? What's likely to happen is that the WSox will work out a contract extension that he's heavy on performance & health incentives. Of all the players on the WSox right now Thomas is the most likely to accept less $'s, & less years for a shot at the WS. Is there any reason to think the WSox are not WS contenders now? No getting Garland reupped and keeping the rotation/pen intact is much more important, imo. I would not pay Frank Thomas 10 mill next year. Unless he comes in and plays like he did back in his prime.
  21. Sweet, Arow is out there afterall. That makes me very very happy.
  22. QUOTE(JimH @ May 22, 2005 -> 09:10 AM) Interesting. I really haven't given it too much thought as my focus is totally on 2005, this team has a chance to win. But, to play along, I think if the Sox go deep into October you'll see Konerko re-signed. If not, my guess is they'll plug a lefthanded bat in over there via trade. I do not see Carl coming back at this point, they want to make room for Anderson and who knows, Sweeney may be knocking at the door too. Going with my assumption for a second, that means Carl's LH bat is gone and the logical place for a LH bat is 1B. I do not think that LH bat will be Gload. Thomas IMO will be re-signed and he may play occasionally at 1B but there will be one additional guy brought in. I see it as someone from the outside, not Gload or Rogowski. They will keep the pitching staff together with a few minor tweaks like Shingo being gone, maybe change the bullpen a bit. Friend of SoxTalk Timo Perez will not be here next year and could be gone a lot sooner. A big wild card is Sweeney, not to harp on him, but he is coming fast. Erubiel Durazo is an option.
  23. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 22, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) It depends on a team's depth. If a team has strong relief depth (incl their ml's) they will look to shore up their greatest weakness relying on that depth. LAA might fit that mold. Consider the WSox has an example. We would only trade Frank because with Everett our depth at DH is strong. Our greatest weakness is the lack of a dominating relief pitcher. Unless we cah shore that up it makes no sense in trading Frank. You don't trade your depth for the future in a year you could go to the WS. Koney is unsigned & not likely to return. There is no one on the team now or in the minors that has Frank's HR potential going forward. He has not been healthy over the last contract so this greatly favors the WSox in a contract extension for Frank. Nomar went from a guaranteed 60M/5 to an 8M/1 not because of his play but because of his health. I see Frank in a similar boat. Since F-ROD was mentioned let's be realistic. If LAA were to trade him for Frank they are essentially trading away a part of their future for a trip to the post season this year. Without F-ROD they are not likely to advance in the post season. But w/out Thomas they are not likely to get there. Umm...they aren't trading Krod. For cripes sakes they wouldn't give up McPherson (even though I mentioned his name) to get RJ so I highly doubt they'd give up Krod for Frank (a guy that hasn't played in almost a year at the major league level). Wouldn't you think they would be just as well off getting Aubrey Huff (and then they could give up prospects only???). Sox won't be able to get value for Frank unless he's at the major league level raking, imo.
  24. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ May 22, 2005 -> 08:46 AM) I wish Rowand had gone after fat boy yesterday when he plunked him and really, really thought AJ was going to. Maybe we should put Timo in to rush Prior and get them both otta the game.[/color=green] ROFL....Timo is worthless. I hope when Gload/Thomas come back its Timo/Walker that are on the way out.
