I think they always knew this was going to happen - but there is a level of respect for Billy D that they wanted to do it that way. Even Reinsdorf's quotes that came out a day or two later kind of implied that. And I think Billy even said he appreciated it because of how it showed that the respect was mutual. But ultimately - I think even Cowley mentioned it, the Bulls expected this to happen all along but I do think they were hoping he would step into the president role (and believe they offered it to him).

I agree - but I think I’m going to bet he is here more than 2 years. If he is legit - she fits into a rebuild and can be a big global draw and might even mean we add another international player or two on free agent market in Ishibia influenced world.

Just my opinion- that team looks pretty limited - when Dybansta starts to take off, Giannis is not there and they don’t have assets. I’m ok if they want to use cap space for more assets or to take a flyer but I’m not trading Matas at this point. I’d stick to draft approach and find ways to creatively get more picks and assume we suck again next year and get a high pick.

No - you don't win with rookies so its not the time for that sort of move. Keep building assets and than when the time is right pivot. Now if someone were to tell me Ja could be had for Patrick Williams and some other stuff in a pure change of scenery - yeah I'd do that presuming Billy D sticks around cause I trust him to handle that. But even if you win the lottery - you are going to be bad next year, that is okay. I do think having Jones and Giddey as floor generals on offense does help ensure you can appropriately develop people.

No minor league stats yet. Was he injured coming out of high school? On paper seems like very little relative to a guy who can hit (even if he is positionless). Hoping to find out he got an outsized bonus to sign or something. I do get that Sosa wasn't getting the playing time here anyway but this seems like yet another Getz deal where goforward outbound WAR will be better than incoming WAR.

Don’t count anything until it happens. And Patrick Williams is trash. He does nothing on the court and I don’t think he is a plus defender at all - he was solid early in his career but his lateral movement is slower so he is a positionless player in the worse kind of way.

If he keeps this up - I think we see him up at some point in May, hopefully for what is the beginning of a tremendous MLB career.

Yeah - I'm not quite sure how the above relates to this...since they were very clear they were going to use a search firm and cast a wide net. I took some of the quotes more positively than others - doesn't mean I'm confident, but feels like a good sign. And while I get the - let the new guy decide on Billy D - I can respect the fact that Billy D knows basketball, is an extremely likeable person who works well with others, and is a very solid head coach (maybe not top 5 head coach - but the combo of his relationship and soft skills and his knowledge makes him more than competent). So I don't see it as big of an issue as some - but doesn't make it perfect. I think the org is better having Billy D involved in the process than if Billy D wasn't here and it was left to the remaining crew to make a decision. I still think their preference would be Billy D becoming president - so I still think there is a scenario where we see a GM come in, Billy D coaches another year or two and than he moves into a president role and they bring in a new coach - while enabling continuity. I liked the quotes from Billy D - around having a smart room vs. a smart individual. I really have never heard a bad thing about the guy. I do worry that he is too focused on winning that they may try to force things vs. doing this proper.

Deng and Masai Ujiri is one rumor out there per cowley. I’d be down with that.

Masai and Myers could be two great candidates if they go experienced route and want to spend some dough.

A lot more smoke around the front office getting blown out. Cowley mentioned Dunleavy Jr as a possible candidate. There is also a random rumor out there of Paxson coming back. Billy D seems safe unless he opts to go back to college.

Let’s win the lottery and get that pick and clean house - it still will be a long journey but I’d finally start feeling a bit better about the Bulls.

Sox should bring him back - same with Gio. See if you can show they are healthy and get something…not like they are blocking anyone.

This team is bad - offense will be better than it has been but the pitching staff is horrendous. With that said - I think by trade deadline they will at least be interesting to watch as we hopefully see some of their younger pitching prospects and a few more quality positional prospects graduate to the show. I still think we are talking about 29 at the absolute soonest at competing for a wild card and that is a huge squint and hope for a Ishibia injection. The minor league system is at least promising and there are a number of recent picks who are at least not already worthless which is something…we shall see - hopefully we seee growth from The young / newer guys on MLb roster and a lot of good development and progress in minors. But If everything goes well I think we will have Thorpe, Schultz, Smith and McDougall in the rotation in 2nd half of the year and that is a heck of a lot more interesting than anything they have right now…

Exactly this and for 50K this seems so dang short sited. In fairness - maybe this is just part of a laundry list and it’s always something, no idea, but I just am kind of done giving this org the benefit of the doubt.
