  1. Or call Cleveland up and go after St. Clair and bring him in as our guard.
  2. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 10:15 AM) I think the real reason is that you cant just install an O-lineman mid-season and have any success because of all of the assignments and schemes that the lineman needs to learn. You can plug someone in most positions on a football field, but QB and O-lineman are pretty difficult to "plug and play" so to speak. Which is why Beekman is our only option. That or we move Shaffer to the inside.
  3. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 10:30 PM) Yankees are the best team by a wide margin. I think the only team that could really hang with them is the Phillies, and even they would have major issues since their bullpen is trash. Wide margin. If it weren't for the Angels playing uncharacteristcaly bad defense, this series might be 2-0 the other way. Bottom line is I can't see how anyone can tell me the Yanks are head and shoulders the best team in baseball. The Twins played them competitively and the Angels have. I make no excuse, Yanks won the game, but the Angels certainly have helped them out the first two games.
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 19, 2009 -> 08:57 AM) Waddle and Silvy report that KC Derrick Johnson, KC linebacker is on the block and the Bears are rumored to be hot after him... thoughts? I loved Derrick Johnson when he was coming out in the draft. How has he done for KC? I'd be all for it, but we have like zero picks left. Can he play MLB or is he going to play at the weakside position?
  5. On a sidenote, I want more Wolfe. When he's in the offense looks so much better, well at least the running game looks semi-existent.
  6. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 08:37 PM) I'm agreeing. I just said that. But even when he has space, like on screens, he's dancing. On his fumble in the redzone, sure it was his fault, but why call a sweep play on 4th and 9 inches? Lets be honest, when you can't run the ball in from inches away you have all kinds of problems with your run blocking and your rb's. It ain't on Turner.
  7. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 08:43 PM) ??? I'd have to check but I think Peyton Manning has more 4th quarter comebacks than any QB in NFL history. However, Cutler has been money in every 4th quarter so far for us, to include Week 1 where the game ended in a INT because prior to Payne and Vasher blowing coverage as usual, he had given us the lead. He also completed like 80% of his 3rd down passes in today's game. And that was despite getting blitzed like crazy. I know he didn't convert as high of a percentage but the guy has been money when the pressure is on.
  8. QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 18, 2009 -> 08:41 PM) The dancing is about timing, Benson was doing it in '07 when he never had before. This run blocking is probably even worse. Oh btw not to absolve Forte of guilt for fumbling, but yeah that was a brutal call for that sweep on 3rd and goal from the 1 after he just fumbled the first time. And I'm pretty sure I saw Omiyale let his guy through right to Forte, again. Get Omiyale the f*** out of there. We need to see Beekman in there. Omilaye has been brutal.
  9. What Cutler has done so far this year with absolutely no o-line support and no running game is absolutely amazing. The guy has made so many huge throws and taken a beating. I can't wait to see what he does when he has time to throw the ball and has a running game to help him out. Yea he made one bad pick (the other was a good read, bad throw) and s*** happens. Cutler once again did what was needed to help the Bears win the game and than some. The guy is a f***ing stud with ice in his veins, he just couldn't over-come all of the oline f***ups. Real bad loss.
  10. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) You watch McCoy play for USC today? But you guys use your TEs a hell of a lot better than Illinois and that is what matters. Also, I don't know what I would call the Illinois-Indiana game but it sure as hell doesn't look like a D1 football game. Lets be honest, Illini's offense is a complete joke right now. However, even when it was rolling, they didn't utilize there TE's period.
  11. USC has great talent, but I'd say Iowa features there TE more than almost any team in the country and they put them in positions to excel quite a bit. You look over the Ken O'Keefe era as OC and every TE we've had in is typically much more htan just the safety valve, often times they've been the go-to guy in our offense. USC has at times featured there offense much more around there RB's (passing wise) as well as there receivers. This year they've done a great job using there TE's and obviously USC has a hell of a lot more talent than Iowa.
  12. Domimant DE's are very valuable. Gaines has the tools to be that. Its a ballsy move but the Bears wouldn't have had a shot at this type of physical specimen in the 2nd round of next years draft. I don't like mortaging our picks, but in this case I don't mind it. I'm done trading picks though, at least without getting more picks back. That said, I expect that we'll deal Urlacher for something in the off-season and pick-up a pick.
  13. By the way, Iowa might lose @ Michigan State tomorrow, but if anyone watched the 2nd half of today's game you can see why Iowa is a legitimate top 15 team, borderline top 10 team. They have a great defense, above average receivers, an above average oline, solid freshman backs, and a solid QB. If Stanzi continues to improve and get his confidence back and Robinson/Wegner hold up and the team stays healthy they got a shot to get into a BCS game, which would be huge for recruiting and the program ($$$). One game at a time though and Iowa has had some problems against the Spartans. Huge f***ing road win for the Hawkeyes though. Curious to see where they'll be in the initial BCS standings. Also, I'm curious to see if this win @ Wiscy helps them with Fiedor. Moeaki had a few huge catches as did our back-up TE. We use TE's better than any-team in the country (Wiscy also using them well).
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 04:24 PM) The refs tried so hard to get ND to win. This is why people hate them. I'm so glad Weis is their coach. He is going to continue to be mediocre and Notre Dame will remain irrelevant. The time-management is horrible and Weiss will be fired. I really wanted ND to win, but I think its a blessing in disguise that they lost. Weiss needs to get the f*** out. He's awful and I don't want to hear that he doens't have talent. He needs to go back to the pro's and run a pro offense as an OC. The man is not a head coach and his speil doesn't work in college. ND hasn't ran at all under him, we do have great QB play (Claussen is very good)...problem is the lack of a run and the mediocre o-line kill us, and well our defense...ugly...ugly.
  15. QUOTE (danman31 @ Oct 17, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) Stanzi? Really? Iowa's success is almost entirely because they have a ridiculous defense. Stanzi as a pro? Yeesh. Staniz is actually a pretty damn accurate passer. This season he's been all over the map, but the 2nd half of today's game he was brilliant and that is more like the Stanzi I've seen. He's just lost a ton of confidence. I don't know if I'd call him an NFL QB, but he's a better QB than people think and I think that will show down the stretch.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 06:13 PM) True, but trading Buehrle is the third rail and Danks is untouchable. Peavy is going nowhere and Garcia has no value. Floyd's the only guy who has value and is expendable. He has a decent contract, he's a righty, and he is under 30. Considering Floyd has been better than Buehrle, imo, the past two years, I'd much rather move Buehrle than Floyd. The order goes something like this: Peavy, Floyd, Danks (you can interchange Danks/Floyd...but everyone here knows about my man-crush on Floyd...although Danks is real real good too). Buehrle is trade-able, although I highly doubt the Sox would get the value for him in a trade. I see Floyd and Ramirez getting talked about in trade proposals. Both are dirt cheap players with plenty of upside and both have been pretty good (Floyd being the better of the too). Ramirez was in his first full year at short, he'll be much better next year. If the Sox want to retool drastically, they'll have to move some in the group of: Linebrink, Jenks, Konerko, Buehrle. All guys that make a lot of money and aren't stars. Buehrle is a borderline star and I f***ing love him, but of all our starters he's the most expandable because of his salary and the fact that he's said he's retiring in two years. Peavy is a bonafide ace and Danks/Floyd are young mid of the rotation starters with #2 potential. I am not advocating we deal Buehrle, but if someone were to offer 2 top 50 prospects (one being a top 25 prospect), I'd think long and hard about it because 2 major league ready top 50 prospects and 14 million could be very very valuable to a team that has quite a few holes. The problem is you might have opened up a hole in the rotation, however, there is always Jon Garland who you could slide in as a #5 (while letting Huddy develop and seeing what Garcia can do).
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 06:05 PM) Floyd should be the #1 trade piece in the Spring if Hudson is lights out.. Why the heck would the Sox trade a guy that is cheap, has posted back to back above average seasons, and is only getting better (as evidenced by his dominant May-Hip Injury). IT was be absolutely stupid to trade Gavin Floyd...stupid. Another team would have to blow the Sox out of the water to get Floyd and I don't see that happening. Not to mention, the Sox need to trade guys that make a lot of money or are due to make a lot of money. Floyd is a f***ing bargain.
  18. Unless the Sox think Taveras could start, I don't think I do that deal. The Sox pen was awful last year, but Linebrink is healthy and while he sucked and makes too much, he has been a very good reliever most of his career (as recently as a season ago with the Sox) so I'd be hard pressed to dump him if we weren't getting either good payroll relief or a player that we valued a bit. Bottom line I see more upside in keeping Linebrink than going with Taveras, unless of course Sox brass thinks of Taveras as there leadoff hitter (and honestly, I hope that isn't the case).
  19. Could Andrew Miller be a guy you try to buy? I don't know if the Marlins would be ready but he hasn't exactly lit it up for Florida since going there in the Miggy trade. He's still very young and has a very live arm though so I'm sure it wouldn't be easy to get him, but if the Marlins wanted to buy a closer for some reason (probably completely unrealistic) or if somehow they were just a 3rd team in a Jenks trade, I wouldn't be opposed to a deal centered around Miller and another prospect on the Marlins (with Jenks going to Florida or a 3rd team). Probably a complete video game trade, but what the hell, it is the off-season.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 08:45 AM) I'd rather take a chance on a younger player that has fallen out of favor on his team like Conor Jackson. Our pitching is good enough to hold us afloat through some growing pains in the beginning of the season. I'm curious to see what the Sox do with Jenks and Konerko. To me those are the two guys the club could move to free up quite a bit of payroll and allow for some more flexibility. The problem is I'm not quite sure the chips the Sox would receive in return would be very beneficial and than you have to ask the question, could I spend the money saved better or not and I'm not so sure. But I do expect the Sox to try everything they can to move Jenks/Konerko/Linebrink and I believe a guy like Connor Jackson is someone the Sox would target. In general I look at them targeting guys who have had a good season or two, are coming off a down year, but have good tools and skills and they'll take a shot on em. On a sidenote, when it comes to Connor Jackson, does anyone know if he is 100%. I know he missed practically the whole season with Pneumonia. But I'd love to put Jackson in our lineup. He's a pretty safe bet to hit .290-.300 with a .360+ OBP, solid power, solid doubles, etc. Nothing flashy, but just a good overall hitter who would be a great bat to have in the lower part of the order (6 or 7).
  21. Bad loss by the Dodgers. There pen didn't hold up and Kershaw was a mess.
  22. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 16, 2009 -> 06:17 AM) NBA rookies have done what they want plenty of times. IIRC Baron Davis and Kobe Bryant basically forced draft day trades Ricky Rubio is thumbing his nose at the draft too Am I mistaken, I don't remember Kobe forcing that draft day deal. I thought the lakers wanted Vlade cause the whole thing happened pretty quickly I thought. This is going on pure memory.
  23. 24. I got 20 of 26. I got Dellaro and Johnson but had nothing in between there...97 and current was perfect...than Kurt Brown, McDowell, Fernandez, Ventura, Big Hurt.
  25. Closing this thread. Its a f***ing waste of space. And athome...get a clue, this isn't a place for someone to just sit there and act as a human RSS feed. Come up with worthwhile topics of discussion, don't sit there berading and ripping the s*** out of something, especially something as worthless as a website.
