I will point out - with the theme of speed - I like Austin of Memphis (and Shakir from Boise). He is small - but damn is he fast. Why not just throw a bunch of speed everywhere - spread things out, use Kmet in the middle - and than force defenses to try and match speed with speed (but smaller guys), thus opening up a ton of room for Fields in run-option and Montgomery to do work. Would be perfectly fine with Poles giving up some capital to get a 4th rounder. Shakir I really like a lot.

I will say this - the defense got a hell of a lot better today. Eddie Jackson finally has a partner who has real upside next to him for the first time in years (since what's his face went to the Packers as a free agent) and Johnson should have a good, young partner in crime at DB. This also means Graham (who showed some potential) can slide into the slot. I expect we see more turnovers and a better Ejax as a result of this, so that part has me kind of excited. I go back to - if only they traded a 6th rounder for Cooper....oh well, lets hope this new wideout is good (I will say - he is supposedly fast but I didn't see it on tape (although I guess outrunning people in the SEC is pretty good tape in an of itself) - like he didn't play as fast as the tape). That said - it wasn't like he had some stud QB at Tennessee so this could be a guy who ends up being a dude. At very least - Fields is a guy who likes wideouts who can run and get in space; He isn't (at least yet) one of those throw the guy open / tight window QB's - so I do agree with there prioritization of speed.

I really think Poles is just like - I am going to stick to my board and do my thing and not overpay, no matter what. It's year one in his mind and no one has a gun to his head. Which I can appreciate - but boy you just aren't helping Fields. That said - I still think they could go out and acquire Metcalf and pay him (I think Metcalf wants to come to Chicago) and I probably would be willing to give up a future pick and/or a player to get him (but not a 1st rounder). Metcalf is worth more - but are Seahawks really going to keep him? But the worse part is - maybe Poles absolutely loves Fields - but no matter what, because of how little Poles has done for Fields - we are going to hear the media and others question it and that is just another thing a young QB shouldn't have to deal with.

I will say - I don’t have a specific issue with any of the 3 players drafted though. And I kind of like the wideout - he has elite speed and while older, dude has great YAC / return skills as well. Get him in space and let him make plays. Go get another wideout and if they can I would be open to a move up for the last good 3t (Winfrey from OU).

I am absolutely irate at the stupidity of this front office so far. I was patient for a while but now I am just annoyed. They could have got ahead of the FA market and traded for Cooper; they could have stocked up on some young wideouts to help their QB…instead they went defense…they could have spent some money in FA to help the line but they really didn’t. They did zero to help out their offense and a young QB who even if the front office has doubts…clearly has the tools to be a franchise QB. Poles better have something up his sleeve. I won’t knock the 2 picks but it is extremely disappointing how little they are doing to try and develop a franchise QB at this point. Like fuck the defense for once in this franchises history and just go all in on offense.

Uggh. That was who I really really wanted. He has special #1 type of attributes, even if he is raw and has some catching issues. He's a great fit with Rodgers.
-
I wouldn’t eliminate TE cause it’s a playmaker and I can live with two of those and than one less wideout if need be but otherwise agree. I want one of Watson, Pickens or Moore and am perfectly content if they get two and than just sign some vet olineman at some point - knowing a year from now they have another full set of picks and more film on some of their younger lineman. I don’t mind DB either. I don’t care if defense is weak as long as it’s because they focused on pieces for offense and Fields.
-
They have literally garbage outside of MOoney - who may or may not even be a #1, but he is very much a #2. IT sure would be nice to have a good #3 and some other upside. Landry is basically a #3 these days and a draft pick is probably in that #2/#3 camp this season at best and than Pringle can get reps too - gives you an ability to move guys around and manage through an injury. I am so tired of watching them run out lousy wideout cores for as long as they have.
-
But no offense to you (cause I respect you opinion) but you have been delusional optimistic about the Bears wideouts including street bum signings for like 3 years. THe Bears have a horrific amount of playmakers on offense and they have a young QB. THEY absolutely need to invest in that side of the ball and big time. Just one isn't enough and Pringle might be better than some of these people - but lets not pretend like the Chiefs were benign over backwards to keep him. HE isn't some difference maker.
-
Sign Jarvis Landry and one of the FA tackles (not long term); Draft a wideout early; draft some dline/DB and interior lineman. Gives Fields a much better array of options. Not saying Landry is that good - but you can probably get him short-term and combine him with Mooney, Pringle and a 2nd rounder and I like that much better than what they have tonight.
-
I wonder if they acquire DK Metcalf with a 2nd rounder - given the run on wideouts. Going to be interesting. That said - Poles seems to be the individual who will just stick to his board and just ignore it - the problem is at some point you have to give Fields something.
-
I can't in a million years see that coming in. But I'm in the camp that I don't know what I'd do if you got a FRP for him, knowing he's about to get paid and you can always use the money in FA in a future year and having another pick clearly helps with the rebuild. That said - Roquan is really good so to your point I might need more (maybe its a future pick that makes it really interesting - say a future FRP or a future 2nd and 3rd..I don't know).
-
Hub floated a rumor that there could be a contender on back-end that might try to get Bears to flip Roquan for a late FRP. Not sure if any smoke there. I also wonder if they wanted to move up - could they package Quinn and a 2RP to get into the back-end of the first round. Will be interesting - some reports that a player or two on the Bears may be headed elsewhere (but not from anyone overly reputable).
-
Yep - I said it so many times - I never can fault using picks on a QB or pushing an elite team over the top - but Pace's consistent use of assets was very poor (outside of Fields and quite frankly even Trubisky - I can't fault if he thought that was hi franchise guy and wanted to give up a 3rd rounder or whatevver it was to guarantee he got them fine...he missed but that is a position where if you hit you change the entire course of your franchise). Wideout, tackle, any of the others don't make sense.
-
I was more hoping Jazz wanted to move on from Gobert (Mitchell and him not a fit) so they are going to a plan B. Question is do you have a 3rd team introduced in the package. You could probably take a shot and buy low on Towns - but obviously there are concerns with him giving his preference.
-
This was along the lines of what I was thinking.
-
Will be interesting to see what the Bulls do this offseason - but if I am in charge, first thing I am doing is finding a way to move on from Vuc, who was horrendous. White can go too - he needs to be somewhere else and just lean in on Ayo and others. Curious to see if you can get a late first for White or if you can package him and Vuc and something else creative to make things happen. They also HAVE to shift the offense. We can't just play Demar ball. But it will be interesting - for all I know they will completely retool.
-
If you think about it though (and this is coming from someone who coaches my son's pony team, my daughter's softball team, and have coached each of their soccer teams - asking me to ref on top of already making the committment to coach is a ton. Youth sports (at least rec youth sports) is a volunteer organization and everything can't just get stacked onto the coaches who are already committing their time (its a lot of work and in my case - I do it and enjoy it, but than I get back hom and work another few hours after my family goes to sleep to make up for the work hours I lost to get to the weekday game early to get the field set-up, get a good warm-up in with the kids, to attend practices (and getting early to make sure all the stuff is set-up, etc).
-
I’d be down with that.
-
Make the playoffs.
-
If they are going to go old school - go get someone like Scioscia. Who else is out there as a more seasoned guy who you might be able to hire in-season (vs. just going to your bench coach)? Too bad they never hired my guy, Bud Black, whose doing a real nice job early on in Colorado.

Now you can panic hahah.

I don’t know how they shit the bed this bad. Just awful.

Was coaching a little league game and missed this one (and don’t have heart to watch the replay). What the heck happened?
-
Probably half of them. But I also fully understand its baseball - teams can look really bad and people go through slumps. Living and breathing on every pitch is just not a healthy way to analyze it, especially given small sample size. Yes - some of those lineups were atrocious but there were years with Ozzie where I think we had Timo hitting clean-up and probably lineups with Erstad & Timo at 3-4. Big deal - if you watch enough baseball, you will see plenty of teams go through spells they look dead, etc. I mean Keuchel stunk - I happened to think he would bounce back (and by bounce back be like a 4.5 type of pitcher this year)...but maybe that doesn't happen. Lambert/VV - both are out once you get your two starters back. I can whine all I want about wanting Rodon back (i was the original Rodon qualifying, constant member of that fan club). But whatever - this team should still win the division and win it handily. It is not a world series favorite (right now) - but the right move at the deadline can change that (although my preference would have been to do more in the off-season using cash and better allocation of resources vs. trade - but whatever). Its baseball - sh*t happens. Now if it were May 31st and we were 10 games under .500 and everyone is out hurt...that is a whole nother story. But its 12 games into the season and 3 days ago we had one of the best records in baseball and now we are .500. Now if you told me we just lost 3 of our best players for the season - than by all means, I would panic away at that point.
