I wish they'd bring back the 40 rounds, or at least 30. If nothing else, they were fun to listen to. And there's always the next MB.

And that’s, FINALLY, a white sox blowout winner!!!
And how about Danny M. and that .812 OPS!

Sure he could have gone earlier; but he didn't. Unless they had an agreement pre draft and that agreement caused other teams to pass (maybe that's what you were saying), I still can't see why you'd pay over slot. It's just consumer surplus. In every pick in a draft (except for maybe the first round) there is someone on your list ranked higher than the position you are drafting due to varying evaluations of players.

I just can't figure out why team would pay any college 3rd year player overslot. Frankly, most should be paid underslot considering their negotiating position. Maybe that's why other teams an afford to punt for a 50K player while the Sox punt for a 10K talent.

The Sox drafted Burke basically where he was ranked; that shouldn't require overslot it seems to me. And even if he were ranked, say, #50 and he fell to the Sox in the 3rd, what choice would he have had but to sign? A few years ago the Sox paid Sheets as a 3-year college player. Paid him overslot for some reason.

Why would a team have to pay a college player overslot? Maybe Covid added an extra year for some of them and the older college player who can leave after 2 years has some leverage. But otherwise, if they don't sign after 3, they become seniors where they have zero leverage and are sure to be offered way underslot.

Why are the sox so unlucky with veteran additions?
They buy high for temporary spurts and career years. Too much trading of young for old. The FO has been so bad with veterans for so long that it's more than just bad luck.

Sox sign 2B Josh Harrison (1 yr, 5.5M; club option; 1.5M buyout)
He made $1 million last year, didn't have year of any sort of note, but Hahn gives him $5 mill. That's just lazy.

I truly think Jerry will make TLR step down after yesterday
If his loyalty had boundaries, Rick Hahn would have been fired 6 years ago.

Sox Claim RHP Parker Markel; option to AAA
I guess it's the strikeouts, but that's yesterday's analytics to a large extent. In the meantime, he's got a big walk problem, and this an ongoing problem in this organization, both issuing them (#28) and not taking them (#30).

It's hard to believe that we'd DFA someone to make room for a 31 year old waivee from the worst team in baseball.

Is that Kumar Rocker from last year? I'd love him at 26. 26 seems like a good spot for a college pitcher (starter; please no more relievers).

Next four months…keys to survival that won’t cost as much
Not Frazier and is .637 OPS again; Drury is having a career year, but Moncada turning it around is probably more likely than Drury keeping it going. At this point, I wouldn't trade for any 2B; the 40 man and upper minors are clogged with them.

6/4 Games
I lot of these guys really need to minimize the hacking. I don't know how the org approaches it in instruction or in signing/drafting players, but it's not a good sign for major league success..

6/4/22 Sox @ Rays, 3:10 pm
Maybe it's just my eyes, but man it looks like Burger has great bat-speed/reaction time. It looked to me like he swung late on that pitch and then just whacked it.

GT 6/3: SOX @ TB, 6:10 PM CDT, NBCSC
The run yield per hit on this team is just awful. Toward the bottom in doubles, homers and walks. One triple all year.

White Sox @ Blue Jays 2:07 PM, Cueto (0-1, 2.41) vs. Manoah (5-1, 1.77)
I like the way you think ? It's pretty apparent that the FO brain trust thinks that the bullpen is where you find spending efficiencies. The same may be true with utility infielders. They're out to lunch.

White Sox @ Blue Jays 2:07 PM, Cueto (0-1, 2.41) vs. Manoah (5-1, 1.77)
And the Sox use a decent amount of draft capital for the bullpen - and they still spend $50 million.

How do you not use Hendriks there? Good gracious.

2022 MLB Draft Thread
I just listed the punts in the prior post. No team came close to what the Sox did. What you are describing IS nuance: drafting a lower rated player so they can save slot. The Sox don't do that: they completely punt 5 picks and sign them for 10K. Actually sometimes the Sox do "reach" a bit, but still pay them slot or above. 100% correct.

100% Correct. What teams do is pay some picks under-slot without completely punting. White Sox don't do that. Here's your list of 2021 punters: Cubs (6, 10), Dodgers (9, 10), Mariners ((5,9,10), Pirates (5,6), Royals (9), White Sox (6,7,8,9,10).

Very few teams punt picks and no other team punts 5-10.

Will the Sox punt picks 5-10 again, or will they try a more nuanced approach this time?

Montas gets Sox speculation
6 years ago, Hahn went scorched earth in desperation, with a SP his centerpiece. But that was before he realized he was a member of the White Sox lifer club.
