Yeah, not much from the cheap waver wire pick ups other than Houser. But now let’s look at the players that matter: Vargas, Meidroth, Teel, Quero, Shane Smith.
-
I hate to say it, but the Sox pro scouting has been a lot more productive recently than the amateur scouting. Houser has some value but not Fedde's value. 2 targets from last year who are rebounding are Crawford of the Phillies and Spencer Jones. Crawford's numbers are good across the board, except for lack of power. Jones is an intriguing gamble because the Sox have zilch in the way of power hitters. Jones' numbers are also way up, except for 34% Ks (even that is slightly improved). I don't think either is a top 100 prospect anymore, but not sure that anyone the Sox would look to trade could nab one of those guys either.

I think Schriffen calls an okay game, until he gets excited: then he sounds like a 15 year-old kid in a locker room. Getz was on the front office show on MLB network. Did his best to upsell Robert. Asked him about C Montgomery and he said that he has certain things to work on. Really the most interesting comment was that he was surprised Boston included Montgomery in the Crochet deal, intimating that he'd have done the deal without him.

That was nice. Taylor looks like he’ll be an absolute beast in the pen (and hopefully in rotation next season). Leasure’s way too wild, but he doesn’t throw many puppies either. Teel made a nice play covering for a bad Rojas throw. Capra can play some D, so I see why he’s here (for now). Vargas’ 9th inning DP was smooth. Aside from being the best player on the team, Vargas looks like a leader out there.
-
And the odd thing is that he was a real non-reach. McDaniel of ESPN had him ranked #6. I'm sill hoping he can hit, though. For me it was Fulmer. terrible delivery, which everyone acknowledged. Never showed anything.

Both of whom should be on the 26-man.

6/21 game thread Sox at Jays 2:05 CDT
GreenSox replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in 2025 Season in Review
Back to the norm. Where does Getz come up with the likes of Noda and Capra? (and Slater and Rojas, et al). And then Venable puts Noda at leadoff. WTF is going on here? He's not giving the team a chance to win. Not that it's a big-deal long term...but no need to intentionally knee yourself short term. -
6/18 game PPD, rescheduled 6/19 Doubleheader 1:10PM

Trading young for old is usually a bad idea. He also traded a young pitching prospect for Julks and a whole bunch of international $ for that Gonzales guy from the Astros AAA team. Those are the sorts of lazy trades that Hahn used to do. Of course Getz hasn't made any disasters, but I hate to see him pick up bad habits. -

As Hawk once said "They find another way," And I'll keep asking WTF are Slater, Rojas, Noda and Capra doing on this team? Enough with the clown act, Getz. -
Get him in round 2. Should have a lot of good options there and in 3 and 4 as well.
-
Very disheartening. But a lot of this is Getz own choices with the roster. Capra, Rojas, Slater, Taylor, Noda should be nowhere near this team. There is not a legitimate reason to have a single mediocre or worse veteran on this team, much less 6 of them (let’s not forget Benintendi, but he’s sort of forced). They contribute nothing. The Sox would get more benefit from any and all of Jelks, Fletcher, DeLoach, Lee, Elko, Baldwin and others from Charlotte playing instead of those veteran clowns. If one of the Charlotte crew finally puts it all together, it’s a huge win for the Sox. He's got some big trades he needs to make too. And it's not just Getz. Shirley too. A lot of bluster from the Sox drafts, but so far it's Crochet 5 years ago (and he was really for the bullpen).
-
Or even if Jo Jo isn't the pick. To me, the players ranked 40-60 don't look that much different than a lot of the players of the players ranked 10-30. As of now, I'm in the round-1-underslot/no punt (at least until late) strategy camp.

Luis Robert trade thread: La Pantera stays.
GreenSox replied to ChiSoxFanMike's topic in Pale Hose Talk
You're probably right. As a sweetener, the Padres can take any reliever they want (except Taylor). Heck, take 2. I wonder what the Sox could get for Martin. If they get a premium offer for him, they should move him; but only for a premium. - -
All the reasons why Elko, Baldwin and others are in AAA ring hollow when Rojas and Capra reside on the 26-man. And Slater and Taylor. No development going on with the above. And most aren't even holding their own as bottom of the roster players. They are just bad players. Meanwhile AAA is stuffed with players who really do need an audition. What is the point of this?
-
Sosa should be at 2B. Rojas should be nowhere near this team.
-
Could the Sox please expand the DFA list to include Noda, Rojas, Slater, Capra. What are we doing here?
-
Noda? Come on.

Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale
GreenSox replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Just because Baldwin is not a first baseman. Even if he does well, he still isn’t going to deliver like a first base needs to. Baldwin needs to work in centerfield; ultimately he’s probably a utility guy and perhaps a really good one. I’m not confident that Elko is the answer. But he’s the only first baseman Sox have that’s anywhere close right now. And Sox are in a position to give players real chances. I would give Fletcher and Julks another go over slater et al. -
Sox trade Andrew Vaughn to acquire Aaron Civale
GreenSox replied to WestEddy's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Give Elko the rest of the season. The mix and match options will always be available. Rojas along with Slater et al should be DFAd in the near future (Slater today, really). -
Another sucky 1-run loss. Why is Meidroth playing 2nd? He is a plus SS defensively. Slayton, Capra: please DFA this absurdities. We have guys in Charlotte who need another look anyway.

I wonder at which positions the true depth of this draft resides...not just the first 50 picks, but the first 200 or so. The Sox edge is drafting first in rounds 2-20. Use it. If they didn’t a draft corner OF Masher Jac @#5 last year, I can’t see drafting Irish now. Jace might be a good gamble, if they have real insight of his issues and how to fix them. CF is big. I would hope not another pitcher, all things being equal.
-
Fair enough. Who did I miss? I did take a conservative approach. I’m not counting on any position prospects yet because the promising ones that I see (outside of Colson) are still in A ball. I haven't completely given up on some of the AAA guys, but not counting on them either.

And that's a 4-2 WHITE SOX OVER TRASHCANS WINNER
GreenSox replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I wonder if Luis Robert isn't a casualty of the new approach. In his 5-WAR year, he only had 30 walks all season. In this, his worst year, he already has 25. The new approach may help Robert in the long-run if he sticks with it....but for the Sox, the run is about 6 weeks. I'm certainly thrilled with the new direction overall. -
Grant Taylor set to join White Sox in HOU
GreenSox replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Kenny Williams made lot of trades that were poor value; a lot of them. But most didn't end up so bad because the prospects he traded away largely ended up doing nothing. He also made some brilliant moves. And then the weird: He trades a top 25 in MLB prospect, our starting catcher and another prospect to rent Freddie Garcia for 2 months....and then extends him and then we win the WS. He trades 5 WAR Carlos Lee for 1 WAR Podsednik and a middle reliever....but darned if it doesn't work. I don't know whether all of his was luck or a great eye for talent or both. , -
This vividly shows how far the “new and improved” White Sox still have to go. What we confidently have going forward is a SS, 3B and 2 Catchers. On the pitching side, several ¾ starters. 1st Base is TBD. Or, put another way, we still need 2 top-of-rotation starters, 4 front-line relievers (we have none on the 26-man, really), a 2B, 3 Outfielders, and possibly a 1st baseman. And, of course, a bench. I’m optimistic that some of the gaps can be filled with guys already in the minors (pitching, 2B perhaps). I think we’ll spend $ when it makes sense to do so (it made no sense to spend in 24 or 25). I’m still leery of the quality of the drafting and when will we get back into the international game?
