  1. Yea, Sox could use improvement in that area. Should be a priority especially with the lack of power.
  2. They are contending so may not have room for an arm on the mend. The Sox have plenty of room. Lots.
  3. LOL Yea, I'd have Mead off my list for that reason. Eisert, Boozer, Wilson...these guys need to have a)good seasons then b)traded in June or July. And not for guys who are going to be at the bottom of this list this time, next year.
  4. Is Eisert a factor here? Your list looks accurate. I'd give consideration to protecting Coffee, McCullough, Schweitzer (in that order). None of those guys are that likely to get picked, but I'd hate to lose one in order to save several of the org. talents that they are protecting. Perhaps the better answer is to not protect any of them (including the org. guys) and leave some spots open for more flexibility for sign or trade
  5. I am a bit surprised or curious about this. All of the Sox young players on the major league roster who actually have talent are infielders. And yet they keep the infield org guys like Mead around; and Cowles too, although I'm not sure what the theory of Cowles is. On the OF side, they have no one besides Baldwin once the current Sox starting OF (Benintendi, Tauchman, Robert) are moved.* Lee played some OF. Maybe some other guys will start shagging out there. Fletcher wasn't that bad anyway. The worst of the org bunch by a mile is Mead. *If those 3 aren't moved by July 31, then Getz darn well better be.
  6. No reason to expose Elko, especially with as much filler as is on this 40 man. But then again, maybe so, because I think they need to do a lot more culling. I would say that Palette, 4-rounds Kelly, Dalquist, busts as starters, but not terrible as relievers should be protected over these guys. And then make a number of rule 5 picks.....the guys they ae kicking off the 40 man are org guys at this point, so they could get fortunate like last year.
  7. Whew. A bit worried for a while that they might have to expose Curtis Mead, Derek Hill or Ben Cowles.
  8. The difference is that we had Vaughn for the better part of 5 seasons...if we held onto him, he started hitting like this for us, where does that leave us? Perhaps a trade in December or next July for a decent, prospect. There is not much opportunity cost either way with Vaughn. Not trading Civale at the deadline was a bigger screwup than trading Vaughn for him. The opportunity lost in trading Semien and Basset was massive: years of control for 2 players who turned out to be excellent. And for what? For our 73 win team to rent Samardiza for a season. And Hahn was preening and strutting after that trade.
  9. That trade wouldn't have pissed me off as much had he just traded Houser for the 2 pitchers without Mead. Mead had no redeeming qualities as a player either statistically on paper (no power, no obp, high Ks, not a good defender) or in his actual play. Just a lot of wasted time and crowding out other evaluations by playing him regularly for 6 weeks.
  10. Well, at least the Civale “prospect” won’t have a negative WAR, which is better than we did for Houser.
  11. Can we ever stop effing up these drafts? I don't much care for Shirley's philosophy of reaching, but we should at least be able to catch a break now and then. It's really the reason we're in this mess (along with doing very little on the international front).
  12. I like it. But the vets are still crowding him and others out. They’ve got to move tauchman, Roert and Benintendi out of here by midseason 2026, if not before.
  13. I liked Katz as a coach. Not really surprised though based up the fleeting glimpses that I've seen of his interactions with Venable in the dugout. Surprised about Santos. The Knights are terrible, but that whole place is ridiculous.
  14. Slater trade was nothingburger all around. Whether it was due to laziness, getting duped by Tampa or whatever, the Houser trade was bad. What made the deadline a disaster is that he didn't do anything else. Getz didn't move Robert, didn't move Tauchman, didn't move any of the utility players like Taylor. Didn't move a reliever. He didn't move Civale. Yea, he wasn't the laughingstock like he was last year, but Tampa certainly got the best of him and the overall results were worse than last year. There's another front office that usually naps at the deadline: the Rockies. Woo woo! A seller blowing off the deadline is really incomprehensible.
  15. I discount all Charlotte stats. Pitchers and hitters. Place is a cemetery. Flecher should have been up earlier. Julks too although he got more time than Fletcher.
  16. Yea, he’s not an aging prospect; he shouldn’t have been on my “do not keep on the 40-man” list anyway. He could get a contract for a couple of more years with some team if he wanted to still play. Good luck to him. I wish Fletcher had gotten more time in Chicago this year. He was an early Getz trade. He hasn’t been great, but no one else they’ve put out there has been either. Barfield must have seen something in him for the Sox to trade for him.
  17. Keep Fletcher and Baldwin; discard the rest of the org guys (Creed, Robertson, taylor, et al)
  18. I call ‘em like I see ‘em. Disappointed in 100 losses; and really PO’d at Getz’ lackluster effort at the deadline. Not as pessimistic as most, however.
  19. Out of those 3, 1 ace, 1 mid-rotation starter, and 1 high-leverage reliever was a reasonable expectation. But that still leaves several available spots. the farm should be pushing out some mid-rotation guys. Palette, “4-rounds” Kelley, Cannon, Keener, Burke and a bunch of others…. Are any major leaguers? Smith and Vasil are rotation arms, but still thin.
  20. I count 8 players who played in tonight's game alone who should be nowhere near the 40-man roster come December. And of course there are several more on the 26-man. Just a stunningly thin roster.
  21. Seen that half-inning a time or 2 this season....
  22. Bunt? Just play Fletcher. they are teeming with Hills.
  23. True but that they don’t is one of the big disappointments. The pen will sort itself out. Guys who backtracked like Cannon and Burke probably have futures in the pen. Same with some of Shirley’s failed reaches like Palette and Kelley. Getz needs to stop trading for org. and 6th inning relievers….it’s ridiculous. Also don’t waste 40-man spots going into the offseason on guys like Eisert.
  24. Some young position players are developing nicely. But isn’t that what is supposed to happen? the 2 rule-5 pitchers are bright spots, but most of the rest of the young pitching didn’t make much progress or got worse. All in all, 60 major league wins, and a farm system that is no better than average. Disappointing, indeed.
