Fire Chris Getz
Since July, Getz seems to be far more concerned with maxing that 2026 win total than developing a team that might be able to win in a couple of years. The light went on and he realized that he could bring back his entire .407 OF for next season. One less thing to worry about. Hurrah! The non-effort at the deadline and clinginess to these veterans is stunning and is stunting. It's a shame because the young pitching is coming together.

New farm system rankings...
Midpack seems about right. Drafting seems about average: some good picks, but several prominent busts. And a lot of reaching. Took a pass on the July trading period.

Plenty of pitchers to audition. Perez should have been released when he came off the injured list. Also have OFs to audition, but Getz doesn't care. Taylor remains. Rojas can't hit, can't field, can't run (or he lollygags on the bases or both).

Fire Chris Getz
That was then. His job was to eat innings as efficiently as possible so as to be traded for as much as possible. This is now. Plenty of pitchers and the deadline has passed. He is crowding out players that the Sox need to look at.

Martin Perez is back. Brilliance. Take another bow, Getz.

Sox and six other teams w/o Top 100 player
Unless the Sox can copy the Brewers’ model.

Peyton Pallette
I've been expecting him to get the call; but they're pretty deliberate with the pitchers still in the "prospect" category. And guys Kelley and Dalquist, while starting pitcher busts, are pitching pretty well in Birmingham's pen. These guys would bring some real talent to the pen (and hopefully sent Taylor back to the rotation). Hope to see at least Palette up; I believe that all will have to be on the 40 man in December anyway so just as soon take a look.

Tigers vs White Sox at Rate Field 8-11-25.
This must be the 40th game like this in the last 2 seasons. Tauchman/Robert/Benintendi went 0/11 with 1 BB. Getz just cannot bring these guys back for another round. This is silly stuff.

Adrian Houser traded to TB for former top prospect Curtis Mead
Still, they sent Mead down and then traded for Gray. And it's not like Mead was some young prospect they were nursing along - he had over 300 major league at bats. Beyond that, what does a productive fully-developed Mead provide? Getz' deals are consistently on the other teams' terms. They never have to squirm. And that's the problem. I think he's cognizant of it after the public fallout from the 2024 deadline. But he hasn't learned how to do anything about it, other than not make deals.

Adrian Houser traded to TB for former top prospect Curtis Mead
The Rays preferred Gray to Mead. The Sox sent them Gray for "cash considerations". But the Sox had to send one of the few trade assets* they had for Mead. Why wasn't he available for "Cash considerations" given that the Rays clearly preferred Gray to Mead? Meanwhile, the Rays send real prospects to the Dodgers for a AAAA catcher. Once again, the Sox get the worst of it. *Houser didn't have a lot of value; but he had a morsel.

8/9 Guardians @ Sox
Fangraphs says otherwise. As does Baseball Reference. As does Law.

8/9 Guardians @ Sox
I will add Meidroth. He was a secondary prospect and, if nothing else, can play major league SS. Quero and Teel are okay, but they were touted prospects; same with Taylor and they have him in the pen. And when oh when will a Getz Waiver Wire position player special (whether claimed or traded for) amount to anything? There sure have been a lot of them.

8/9 Guardians @ Sox
So disheartening. The real progress of this season boils down to Rule 5: Shane Smith and Vasil (indirectly). I guess Colson too, especially considering that it looked like he could be a bust. Not a lot.

8/8 Guardians @ White Sox
Getz traded for Julks (a prospect; not "Cash considerations") so I'm glad to see him play. He also traded for DeLoach, Fletcher, Baker...waiver wire types that he traded for. Now we have Gonzalez in AAA...he's a little younger, but he looks just like the rest of them: modest power, not very athletic. And he's bringing back the same veteran outfield for next year. And Rojas continues to take ABs, even though he's clowned it up all season. Get serious please, Mr. Getz.

Robert stays...
That would be fine. He’s not a long-term piece. And asking for starters on contenders’ certainly wasn’t a serious effort in July. Maybe it’ll be more successful in December. just stop trading for AAAA players. That is not a market inefficiency- those players are not undervalued. If it was, Charlotte would be the most efficient team in the world..

8/8 Guardians @ White Sox
What was essentially a complete non-effort at the deadline was the tell. You can't be so woefully unprepared at the deadline, like Getz was, if you are seriously rebuilding. It's really the same kind of player that's been around here for a decade. Not very athletic. Not a lot of power. No speed (they'd be last in steals, but for Robert). They don't seem to have a driving philosophy or anything. Just load up with AAAA level players and hope for the best.

8/8 Guardians @ White Sox
How's his OF play? That's really where there is room for him, the current mediocre veteran placeholders notwithstanding.

8/7 Games
Galanie is hanging in there. Is he an Elko? or is he a Vinnie P?' And within a blowout loss, Pallette had a productive 2 innings.

Jonathan Cannon optioned to AAA, Wikelman González promoted
Pretty rough; but so was his outing in Seattle.

8/7 Gamethread vs Mariners
And, of course, Rojas needs to go. He can't hit, he can't defend, and his baserunning is terrible. And even if he could do those things, which he can't, he'd still need to go. He's crowding out auditions.

8/6 Games
Palette's stats may overstate his struggles; he surrendered 10 ER in 2/3 of an inning over 3 appearances in mid-June. Otherwise, he's been okay with 4 ER aggregate in his other appearances. Still, they take it easy with him: never pitches on back to back days. He's gone 2 innings a few times, but never more.

8/6 Games
I begged at the time of that draft to not draft a pitcher, and particularly to not draft Smith. He threw hard but his stuff never looked that great. Rough delivery and lots of Ks on pitches no professional hitter would ever swing at. Paying him over-slot was just inexplicable. And then we went back for more with the comp pick (has Larson made it to Kanny yet)? I sense some hubris from the Sox about these lefties.
