  1. Pretty hefty price, especially in this strikeout-focused era.
  2. When you give up Eder and a prospect outside the top 30, you can safely say that the price is right.
  3. 4th round pick from last year for Slater? Nice!
  4. This also brings a last-minute showcase for the Katz-rejuvenated Tyler Alexander.
  5. Fine, but then we should have gotten 2 or 3 Vargas’ in that trade. Sure Marlins did well trading for 2 out-of-options guys. How about the Sox? Hahn brought us Madeiros and Cordell; and those secondary prospects in the Frazier/Robertson trade that did zilch? Low minors Rule 5 guys. Getz trading for the older prospects = Julks, Fletcher and DeLoach. I’d say the real bargain, is not the decliner, but the ascender who hasn’t hit the ranked prospect lists. That’s what the Padres and As got from Hahn. That’s PCA. That’s what the Dodgers got from the Cubs for Bush.

We have a lot of those, including Jared “4-Rounds” Kelley and Dalquist et al. Hopefully some can still be turned into viable relievers. Just need a lot of pitching prospects as the failure rate is high.
  7. Well the Padres major league catching is, as of now, less than exemplary. If Astro’s #2 Melton is worthy of derision for these Sox “major leaguers,” what level of prospect can we reasonably expect Or is this just a set-up to beat on Getz, regardless of outcome.
  8. Is this guy substantially different from, say, Gilbert or Alexander? Sox vet relievers have surprisingly nice stats.
  9. I should have used the term "risky"; he's also Astros #2 prospect and was in the top 100. And can play CF. No one seems to be making any decent offers for any of these major leaguers.
  10. Yea, he's a questionable prospect. It's just hard to get more sure prospects out of these teams...and or good reason.
  11. Oh, the Sox can squeeze their way into this Astros: Cease, Tauchman Padres: Robert, Houser/Civale, veteran Sox pen arm of their choice, K Lee Sox: Melton (Astros prospect)
  12. If both of those things are true they absolutely should trade him;
  13. Only if teams are willing to pay the price of an ace: Crochet minimum, and that really isn’t enough. This org. struggles enough with finding talent; hopefully they won’t devalue the talent they do find by accepting a reliever’s price for ace talent. The Sox probably should trade him if they see him as a reliever….but for an ace’s price.
  14. House and Civale are basically Paddack I suppose. Prospect in the teens sounds about right.
  15. And inside-the-park-ers. 2 in one game, if I recall.
  16. Vientos has been a negative fWAR player in 3 of his 4 seasons. He showed some power in his 1 good season, so, at a cheap price, perhaps take a chance. Vientos is also a poor defender. Poor D was a huge problem with the last buildup. Accepting poor defense this early, especially from such a marginal player, doesn’t seem like the best idea. Speed and baserunning should also be a priority (not so much thusfar).
  17. Complaining on the Brewers about the pen, so they traded him. Sox were willing to deal with it; not sure how other contenders will view it.
  18. Wouldn’t surprise me if, long-term , Vasil and Taylor are in the rotation and Burke and Martin are in the pen. For now, Vasil and Taylor need development; Eisert et al need to be showcased. So the bullpen usage is likely to be a bit odd.
  19. Rough night for my man Leasure. Nice final audition from Civale; unless his attitude is just too much and makes it moot,
  20. Rays and the Getz FO seem to work well together. This is the 3rd player the Sox have sent to the Rays, including thais who was a legit major leaguer. The Rays probably gave the Sox the heads-up on Vasil. Good win-win situation.
  21. Of course the Phillies et al are interested in Taylor: they think they can get this top-of-the rotation talent for the price of a reliever. Trading him for Crawford (much less Robert and him for Crawford) under-values him. The Sox may see him as a reliever, but he certainly shouldn't price him as one. That would be clowning.
  22. Informed as in information about goings on in front office. Also posted a lot of info on draft prospects. Jimmy brings a lot of info too. Everyone has opinions on players, trades, etc.
  23. Can't let those twerps chase him off. Most informed poster on the board. Re Robert return, I'm good with pitching. Can't ever have enough and if teams are more willing to trade it, oblige them. We need a CF; but it's unlikely that this deadline solves that anyway.
  24. Naylor didn't bring Cleveland a haul when sent to Arizona either. I'd pass on Naylor. Need better defenders (and players with some speed).
  25. Vasil is certainly part of the core. Probably a starter next season. Control an issue, but he's got guts. Leasure is part of the core. Needs work on control, but a lot of talent, Pretty much all of the young pitchers need command improvement (taylor would become great with command). As soon as the Sox move the vets out of the pen, we'll see if Palette et al can enter the core.
