  1. Slater and Tauchman and Taylor are all 30 ish, lack power. And even when they were good, they were the useful sort, but weren't that good. Benintendi is in that class too (although he has had some good seasons). They haven't exactly "earned it" themselves this spring. It's just overkill. It's not crowding out serious prospects, but there still is a chance with Fletcher or Colas. Heck, NRI Calvin Mitchell is more interesting than some of those guys. Plus, we have some young infielders who could play some outfield....versatility is becoming a thing.
  2. No one wanted him as a 5th starter. Standards change in July for late inning relievers. Yall may be right that he's just too odious. But, I can remember 2 teams trading for wife-beaters for want of late inning relief.
  3. Wish he could pitch as well as Clevinger. Clevinger will be gone soon enough. Some team will bite this time.
  4. Looks about right. I just don't see the allure of Slater. I thought Maton had a good spring among the veterans, but no room I supposed.
  5. I/d rather just Bentendi I'd wish he'd just sit on the DL this season. He may be moveable next season; but this season, he's a clogger.
  6. Sure Mayo has more trade value than either Vargas or Sosa; but it's not enough to attract top shelf pitching...perhaps a mid-rotation guy on a short contract in July. But he's not the profile that the Sox need to trade for anyway, so I don't care about him. I'll be very happy if one of either Vargas or Sosa turns into a real major league hitter.
  7. Benintendi will not be traded in 2025. Even if he has a great 3 months, I don't see teams ponying up $35 Million+ for his services. Clevinger will be an effective reliever and will be moved in July; the July market for late-inning relievers is a lot more robust than it is for 5th starters.
  8. Tristan Gray has hit a lot of homers in the minors, including 2 30-homer seasons. It's a longshot, but we sure could use 30 homers...or even 10.
  9. I figure Dalbec is just occupying innings. The important guys are getting enough work. Spring training is too long. As for Vaughn, just pray he has a few good months; if he does, we can get something for him.
  10. And Maton. But he's not really a SS either.
  11. Tyler Davis looked sharp. In his only appearance this spring, he comes in with the bags loaded and Ks Moncada in 4 pitches. He doesn't have much experience, but he looks poised and ready to go. Wouldn't surprise me to see him in the pen late summer.
  12. Sox and Angels just switched 3rd rate backup catchers; they got Robinson and we got Thaiss.
  13. With the Dodgers, I like the idea of Hope plus a couple of other guys reasonably ranked- Freeland and another top 10. Hope has potential galore. That way, the Sox avoid the Outmans and Pages that the Dodgers are gonna want to send; the Dodgers keep their three highest ranked prospects, but they still feel some sting.
  14. Those two immediately, but by June, we should have a couple of better arms all present and correct. But I think their value will only increase as time passes; and heck we may want to keep them anyway.
  15. The Sox have a couple of 5th-starter arms to offer up for sale.
  16. Rojas, Amaya, Taylor, Tauchman, Drury, Slater seems a bit much of the has-been/never-was veteran demographic. Those guys aren't particularly peddleable, even with good seasons, either. One guy I'm really hoping has a big start is Vaughn....now, he could bring back something, if he rakes for a couple of months. Teel looks like he'll be paying Chicago a visit by late Spring.
  17. That's quite the chain, 19 years and counting. I wonder what the longest running chain is in MLB? Good to see them starting the Saint.
  18. Absolutely not. Only make a deal with the Dodgers if they significantly overpay.
  19. The Sox control Martin through 2030, so it seems ridiculous to think about trading him....the Sox have to start building this thing up. On the other hand, per my reading of the prospect reviews, it appears that we'll have 5+ additional starting pitching prospects ready to go by 2026 (including a couple on the "just-missed" list). The Sox are still mighty light on position player prospects, so they've got to be open, if not aggressive, in pursuit of positional acquisitions. Dealing from depth may be the way to go.
  20. I wonder if they've moved him to the Pen full-time, or if it's just a case of if a young arm is ready to go, they'll find a spot on the active roster. On another matter, they've had worse players/placeholders on the active roster than Maton.
  21. Seattle seems like an obvious spot, but for Robert's Ks. Seattle has a serious K problem and Robert just adds to it.
  22. Development was the least of the reasons for that situation.
  23. Fletcher, yes: he was pretty much expected to come in and give us a 1-2 WAR OF. But wasn't Deloach one of those guys like Cordell, who was Rule 5 eligible and one of those guys who in all likelihood as AAA? The more important parts of that deal were the pick and the pitcher. And I agree - I hope some of the IFs get work in LF.
