QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) Kenny actually seemed to do better when he didn't have as much money to play around with. Mark yep. And his best trades were the small ones. When he would decided to pile on the prospects for the "elite" player, they weren't so elite when they came back here.

Samardzija/Cooper
QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 4, 2015 -> 03:49 PM) Focusing too much on cutter caused his fastball to not be ready out of Spring Training? Also, I've said all year his mechanics are different than last season. He's pitching less over the top, which has caused his splitter to not have the same movement from last year. Cutter is Don Cooper's m.o.
-
Samardzija/Cooper
I believe it. Note how Samardizja has changed what he's throwing. Not nearly as many fastballs; lots of sliders and Cutters, Cooper style. Cooper needs to go right along with Ventura. Sox should make him the QO offer.

9/3 at Minnesota Twins
Don Ventura sacrifices the team's second to best hitter, to take the bat out of the hands of the team's best hitter. He can't think a move ahead.

Saladino could take over ss until Anderson is ready
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 3, 2015 -> 07:23 AM) This is such a typical statement from you. A 2nd round pick drafted out of high school, a 7th round pick and a 17 year old Venezuelan kid signed for minimal money turned into 3 major league players. That's a win. A utility infielder for a second round pick is not a win. It doesn't matter whether it's high school or college. That said I'm not convinced these guys are just utility infielders. People around here have a tendency to give up after six months of seeing a player play. A young player that is. I have no problem putting those two at second and short for next year. Although it should start right now every day.

It's call-up season, so who does Ventura/Cooper put into the lineup? Gordon Beckham, everybody! But no call-ups.

40-Man Call Ups - Analysis
Leury did a little better this year offensively. Don't see a problem playing him. Sox paid $6 million for 2 horrendous utility infielders this year, so just as soon give him some work. they'll need a SS next year as well. It would be nice, however, if Ventura would actually consider playing the call ups.

White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 03:17 PM) He stands next to Joe Maddon. That should make him a clone. Why do so many people think this way? Look at your places of employment and look at the better employees and their assistants. Are there assistants just like them? Hell no. Dave Martinez has interview countless times for a managerial job, including the TB Rays where, if he was Maddon's clone, would have been the perfect place for him to start his managerial career. He never gets the job. Why? Anyone who thinks Robin lacks emotion would quickly realize he is the Tazmanian Devil compared to Dave Martinez, who is basically Harold Baines personality wise. That's probably why he hasn't been hired. But good managers higher good people below them. Ventura's issues have nothing to do with his stoicism (which I think is a plus). As for Thome and Konerko...they'd probably be better than Ventura (not a high bar to achieve that) but they are similarly inexperienced.

Hahn Speaks
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Sep 2, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) I don't think anything big (like trade Chris Sale) will happen either because the Sox are still in the mind set that they can compete next year. Trading Chris Sale does not let you do that. That's just not true. If the Sox got 3 quality young players for him who could produce right away, the Sox would be a better baseball team. Teams win without aces (and Rodon may be that anyway). And the Sox certainly have proven that they can lose with the best of them with Sale.
-
Hahn Speaks
There are three pieces to Sale's value: his quality as a pitcher, his cheap contract in terms of dollars, and the number of years. The problem with dealing with the Dodgers or Red Sox is that the cheap contract doesn't mean that much to them. To get full value you would have to look at teams for him that would mean a lot such as the Astros, Royals, or pirates, or even the Cardinals. I don't know that those systems are strong enough. The The Dodgers are Red Sox may be willing to take contracts as part of the value but I don't think that really Sox much and hopefully that's not what the Sox would be looking for. As for Quintana, I'm just not sure how big that haul would be

White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) Why does Coop get a pass on White Sox starter 1st inning problems? He shouldn't. He also shouldn't get a pass on producing only one staff in the top 1/2 of MLB in ERA in 7 seasons. He also shouldn't get a pass on his handling of the bullpen, and his status as Robin's mentor/shadow-manager, and Williams' mole.

September Call-Up Predictions
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 09:01 AM) Carroll, both Johnsons, Brantly and Leury. Probably Beck if Putnam isn't going to come off the DL as soon as he's eligible. I'll go with all of those but Carroll. No point in bringing up AAAA players.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 03:22 PM) They sent the manger away. They lacked one then too. He was better early in his career. Really haven't had a good one since Torborg. Don't want the fossil from the Twins either. Modern thinking, please.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 10:14 AM) So you are admitting all your posts complaining endlessly about the talent level are just BS. The Sox apparently have plenty of talent to win, it is Robin Ventura holding them back. They lack talent and a manger.

Robertson Claimed by Yankees, pulled back by WS
Robertson, Laroche and Soto for JR Murphy

Robertson Claimed by Yankees, pulled back by WS
Sox need C, 3B, OF prospects. Don't need MI prospects
-
Robertson Claimed by Yankees, pulled back by WS
Unlike guys like Henley and Sandoval, Robertson has pitched to his contract so it's not surprising he was claimed. Despite "blown saves" he has pitched well.Wonder if we could even work out a trade. I'd rather keep him though.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Aug 31, 2015 -> 12:13 AM) I doubt KW leaves. I just want an all new coaching staff starting with a veteran manager. I don't necessarily want a veteran manager. I want A manager with experience coaching in major-league baseball. I also like one who is attuned to modern thinking and analytics. The front office did a dreadful job last off-season so there really needs to be some churning there too.

8/29 vs Seattle Mariners
then Ventura pulls the best hitter out of the lineup for a pinch runner.

8/28 Games
Rodon was much more polished out of college than Fullmer. Fulmer has a goofy, vicious delivery that they really need to straighten out to get full value out of him.

White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 29, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) Melky was a worse signing than LaRoche? Lmao ok. Sure it was. More money more years, gave up a draft pick. People act like he's producing offensively. He's not. He is also a lousy defender. Laroche is a good defender but the Sox aren't using what little value he has. We're done with Laroche after one more year. They could cut him in the spring.
-
White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura
The problem is Laroche and Melky were very likely to Decline. Melky was the worse signing. More money more years, gave up a pick, bad on defense. Great post up there Balta Explains everything vividly and accurately..

White Sox Futility Under Williams/Hahn/Ventura
The rebuild was going fine until they decided to take a U-turn last winter and sign a bunch of veteran stiffs. You can look at the rebuild of the Astros and Cubs ans most of their talent was not acquired from trades. It was acquired from signings of international players and through the astute drafting. Yes the Cubs got their ace from a trade but that was from a trade anything should do – Dumping a mediocre veteran in July for a young player. Again that's another thing Sox simply did not do over the last year.
