  1. "Elite" is what it would take I think to make a trade (or at least 1 elite) - Sox need to be overpaid. Davis is, what, a high 3/low 2 with 3+ years of control? I would say 2 prospects who project to be 2s is "fair". Then we come to Bryan Hudson.... I do think the system is pretty significantly short on pitching. So I'd look for opportunities.
  2. I'm thinking for a reliever or 2. No use putting more resources into it at this point. Sox OF will sort itself out at some point (although a CF may be problematic). If Martin goes, it's got to be for elite young pitching.
  3. Maybe we can do some business with them. We seem to have a deficit in that position.
  4. Well, when you stop losing so many games late, there isn't anything to tally. I think that everyone is enjoying this team. Some a little too much: they want to trade our best prospects for Mike Trout. My feeling (just guess) is that he'll be gone before July 31. Attendance is up and the team is tangibly improved and competitive. Time to cut some losses. Things are starting to accelerate and the Sox have too much to see and do to waste a 26 man spot like that.
  5. Shields gave 10 runs in Seattle right before the trade. A couple of weeks later, use a first round pick for a quick-to-the-majors college reliever. 6 Weeks after that, Hahn announces it's time to rebuild.
  6. Yes spending is not a panacea. You have to do it judiciously...and that includes deciding which young players to wrap up long term - although taking them through arb +2 or so is a pretty reasonable low-risk policy There's something to be said for keeping the team fresh and relatively young. I think keeping some of the younger relievers in AAA for now makes sense. Get the vets dressed up and traded in July; then bring up the better relievers from AAA
  7. And Blake Larson... does he exist? Used a lot of resources for this guy and he still hasn't hit the leagues.
  8. Start making moves like that, and we'll start a new rebuild in 2028. Run the place like the Brewers run theirs. When they have Ishbia's money, keep running the place like the Brewers run theirs + well-considered Free Agents.
  9. The Sox will have made 3 West Coast trips (their only 3) before they play a game against the Twins, Tigers or Guardians. But then those Central games will come fast and we'll find out.
  10. Bad teams are bad until they aren't. 3 years ago the Royals and Tigers were terrible, and then 2 years ago they were suddenly good. 89 Sox = 69 wins; 90 Sox = 94 wins 99 Sox = 75 wins; 00 Sox = 95 wins 70 Sox = 56 wins (and a worse team, imo, than the 24 Sox), 71= 79 wins; 72= 87 wins (2nd most in AL). It's hard to see this team contending with the best teams in baseball, but for the division (sans Skubal ) - perhaps. They'll need some minor league pitching to step up. One or both of the Smiths would be a good start.
  11. Please make more trades like that, Guardians. Maybe one with the Sox.

He's had reliever risk all along. This is starting to feel like Fulmer risk.
  13. Apparently Roch is a "floor" pick . But why are the Sox looking for floor? We have floor - Montgomery is a fine SS; Bonemer is right behind. Vargas plays a good 3B. Gonzalez and Vaughn were floor picks; frankly, so were Hagen Smith (they misread that floor) and Madrigal. Not that these high school SS are interesting - Emerson is the "floor" among high school ss. The more interesting players are Lackey and Flora; but it's hard to chose them over Roch (unless Roch is an unathletic floor).
  14. Nice game. Needed that one.
  15. Crochet (drafted for the pen) and Taylor, Burke and Schultz, who are all works-in-process, are pretty much the entire pitching yield since 2020 from this great drafting system. Should be able to fill more pen spots with mid-round draftees. And once again, Leasure was far from the worst pitcher in this pen.
  16. .643 career OPS with over 1400 PAs. And since we constantly hear this complaint, he's 5-9. To what end?
  17. But those aren't insignificant issues either.
  18. Leasure gets a lot of grief but he hasn't been that bad and he's far from the worst reliever. He has the skills/tools to be better so that's frustrating and he seems to get rocked at inopportune times.
  19. Montgomery needs to up his contact skills to go from a good player to a great player. He needed to get that run in in the 9th. He just Ks too much.
  20. Sox need to take advantage of basket-case teams and whack the Angels two more times.
  21. I hope they can work something with Murakami and some of our other young guys. But the key is a prosperous farm. Can't win without it. And that will require a willing FO (which we seem to have) and a willing JR to invest in it. I've never thought that JR's lack of FA spending was the major problem. Just make sound decisions. Yea, Murakami could have flopped, but the money and term were modest, and the potential upside huge. The list of flopped FAs is long (and the Sox are enduring one now).
  22. I remember Ventura would have Sale throwing his 117th pitch in 92 degrees in July. Looked like Davis was getting a bit tired anyway.
  23. The veteran relievers are starting to pull it together. I like Beckham in the booth. He's understated, which seems to temper Schriffen's schoolkid patter. Stone's style seems to exacerbate it.
  24. Let Davis take this all the way. It's good crisp weather. We'll have full pen available for last 2 games.
