The series against the Twins is a must sweep now. Unless the Sox pull a Colorado over these next 19 games, this division race is pretty much over. If I'm the Twins, I smell blood, and beat the Sox at least 2/3 times to wrap the division up (depending on what they do against Cleveland).

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 12:39 PM) As far as mugshots go, thats not too bad really. Agreed. I've seen much, much worse.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 01:10 PM) Not if the Bulls get ballsy in reply and offer Joakim. The problem with Noah is...the cost in luxury tax of taking on him and Deng and offering Noah an extension would be monstrous. Correct, which is why the Bulls won't offer Noah. The Knicks can still offer Randolph and be good in spending. The thing is like the Bulls, I can't see the Knicks doing it. Now New Jersey.. they beat out both teams in talent, and can offer alot to get Melo (as they've said.. whatever it takes). But I highly doubt he would sign an extension to a team who was terrible last year even with a couple of nice pieces.

On the bright side, Frank Thomas sounds miles better than he did earlier in the season. He has really improved his commentary.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 9, 2010 -> 12:11 PM) The Bulls have more talent to offer, the Knicks can offer greater salary flexibility. That is very debatable if the Knicks want to get ballsy and offer Randolph as well. If they don't, your right. And ya... I'll add this to the LeBron, Bosh, Wade, and before that.. Kobe, Gasol, Garnett, etc.. rumors.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) Probably just lying around. For some reason, I chuckled reading this. -
QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 01:50 PM) Whoa there, it's your tone; it's the wrong tone. When, during any of this pile of generalizations, was the condescending, high school tone necessary? I never liked Thome, you apparently did. In fact, I grew up disliking him on the Indians; you apparently didn't mind him those years. So he hit a few nice homeruns for the Sox over a pointless 4 years did he? Good for him. Good.....for........him (slow, sarcastic clap). I swear some of you act like Jim was Mr. White Sox; Mr. homegrown, glad to be home, king of the South Side. That's Buehrle, Konerko, Baines, Thomas territory that he has no business being in the same discussions with. He grew up a cub fan, played forever on the Indians, co-founder of CWS Corpseball, played on 4 meaningless Sox teams that didn't accomplish dick. What's the big deal? I don't think Thome was the missing piece this year; the first 2 months were. We disagree; why give your arguments that personal attack feel, man? I'm not understanding that avenue. :crying

QUOTE (daggins @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 09:22 PM) Give it up for Infante, who looks like mini-Pena He was just called up from AA and made his ML debut (which I happened to miss cause I fell asleep when Torres was getting rocked). Give him a break.

Tampa Bay now 11-6 against the Red Sox. They are also pretty good against the Angels. The only team besides the Yankees (who they also have a winning record against at 6-5) that will give them fits will be the Blue Jays (8-7) though they give the Yankees even more fits and play New York 3 more times in late September. Oddly enough a dark horse team I would watch out for is Kansas City oddly enough (2-2 against them) and I believe Greinke is scheduled to pitch in a series against them late. Is it impossible? Of course not. Does it make me wanna pay attention to that instead of a team who is 4.5 games ahead of us? Not a chance. It is not leaving the AL East, and I'll gladly eat crow if Tampa decides to pull a San Diego during the final two weeks.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 7, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) Beacon of sanity? He has been preaching on how the DH will never really matter. We get a real DH and win 7 straight. On posts on a message board, he has not had a good year (said alot of stuff that did not make sense). On the radio show.. I haven't heard him, but judging on what people say here, he's been very good and we know how we as sox fans can get so I'll take posters here words for it..

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 11:51 PM) Definitely something to keep an eye on but 6 games is an awful lot to make up with 25 remaining and no head to heads left. I don't even think it's definitely. Tampa would pretty much have to go San Diego on us the next two weeks for us to have a shot. But hey.. I will literally keep "an eye" out, as in one.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) There's no way to know if Thome would have helped us. All we know is that he wasn't a fit here for 4 years. He didn't fit in whatsoever. He never excited anybody, only made them cringe and pray for anything but a strikeout. If you think differently, I have to ask if you ever watched Sox baseball with a big group of Sox fans? If you weren't cringing or pulling hair out when Thome was up at crucial times, then...uh...what were ya doin??? Cheering confidently that Thome was gonna make that pitcher pay??? My ass. He came through like 1 outa 15 times; let his meaningless memory go. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 05:30 PM) It's the #1 reason why I find myself still cheering for him even while he's sleeping with the enemy. It's utterly ridiculous. So here's what I did: I just started with the first game of the 2009 season (it's the most recent so it should be pretty fresh in everyone's memory) looking at Thome's HR logs and went through the first 2 or so months of the season looking for Thome HR that finished #1 in that particular game in WPA (ie: the most important hits of the game). Well it was 9 HR in until I got to June 1st and this is what I found: Bottom 8, Down 1, Runners on: 2 Bottom 6, Tied, Runners on: 1 Top 5, Down 1, Runners on: 1 Top 8, Down 2, Runners on: 1 Bottom 8, Tied, Runners on: 2 I don't get how a hitter goes about failing in every crucial situation but still finishes #1 or #2 on the club in WPA each year he was here: #1 in '07 and '09 and #2 in '06 and '08. I hardly ever say this (since I'm not a big fan of the word personally) but this is what you call getting PWNed ladies and gentlemen. Kalapse, still killing people..... with kindness.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) Yeah, Gartrell led the lead with 152. Not good obviously. Danks will have to show the ability to adjust his swing. It's the only way he'll make it. Gartrell has a better chance at this point than Danks does. You could use Gartrell as a LHP killer in the bigs. (ala Marcus Thames. or semi poor man's version of him) Danks does not have strong splits against righties or lefties (oddly enough, he hits LHP better albeit, only 133 ABs). Not saying Gartrell will ever make it, but it is what it is at this point unless Danks really adjust next season. He'll still be looked at based on his tools.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 03:37 AM) Holy. In RTTS, Sox have acquired: Yonder Alonso, Dominic Brown, David Wright, Michael Young, Derek Norris, Ryan Theriot, Mike Napoli, Shin Soo-Choo, Mike Leake, Boof Bonser, JC Romero, Jesse Crain, Renyel Pinto. Yet they are 29-35. The RTTS Ozzie must have batted Mark Kotsay in the 3 hole.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 6, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) Gilbert by the Jets. Yikes... Rex Ryan will probably make the Bears front office look like idiots (more-so nationally than locally) if he uses Gilbert right/gets production out of him.

Bears got back seven players on PS. LeFevour was claimed by the Bengals. (who have been snatching up guys he let go left and right it seems) Shaw was claimed by the Titans.

Wow.... http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/story/1388856...rip-apart-cards I'm sure there will be threads here in the off-season asking what St. Louis wants for Rasmus. Never thought he would be available, but apparently hes as good as gone next year... or LaRussa will be done as a manager there.
