QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) it's hard to adequately describe my dismay with pierre. And I'm a fan of his And it's easy for me. Always hated his game. Thought I would hate him less this year though. Looks like he's proving me wrong. -

keep up the quick updates guys. I'm at the hospital now for my mother's surgery (Rush computers). Really appreciate it. -
If you're KW, who's on your BIG BOARD to replace Ozzie?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 01:23 AM) I also am a huge Joe Maddon fan, but obviously that isn't really an option. As am I. Which is why I mentioned Martinez, who is being tutored under Maddon right now. Maddon is a saber guy too. He isn't perfect (who is.. but he has his faults more-so on bullpen/pitching situations) but he is really, really intelligent. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 04:33 PM) Feels good thay I won't have to watch Kevin Payne miss hits anymore since he doesn't know how to or attempt to tackle ever. He is much better than Bullocks though and younger.. which I don't get unless we are saving money...

Ima just say this, since we are playing them now, but noticed for a bit here. I'm beginning to like Elvis Andrus. (not quite love level yet though) .400 OBP and already has 16 walks in 69 ABs (had 40 all of last season) Didn't think he would this good, this early on in his career. (though maybe in a year or two) Already one of the best defensive SS in the game. I will say this though, he will come back down to earth with his inflated BABIP, but the improved discipline is really encouraging.

Quentin.

I'll try and say something positive here. He looked good from the 2nd inning to the 6th.
-
Jim, I'm sure you are pissed that Span pretty much got screwed on that "dropped fly ball" by the same umpire that threw him out the previous game. Changed the whole game giving Detroit 4 outs. (don't mean to sound like Hawk, but it actually did)

HAWKS WIN! HAWKS WIN THE STANLEY CUP!!
SoxAce replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
What an upset.. I'm glad for Price too who I still like alot with his potential. That means the Habs have to trade him in the summer. Halak is a hell of a goaltender. -
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 10:10 PM) Escobar's superior power/patience > Gilmore's inflated average. Ya not sure about your power argument. (Hell Gilmore has 5 XBH to Escobars 6 so it isn't night and day better here) But defensively, you would have a point. Both Gilmore and Short though have been very good. Both guys can go 0 for their next 20, and still be hitting over .300

If you're KW, who's on your BIG BOARD to replace Ozzie?
SoxAce replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
No to Cooper. He's much better suited as a pitching coach. My personal favorite.. Dave Martinez. If he's anything like Maddon, I'll be very happy. Thing is.. guys like Pierre, Kotsay, etc.. possibly AJ (though that's just me talking there as I never liked his offensive production even though he's a tremendous baseball I.Q.) have to go. -
OT: That kid Carlos Santana for the Indians org. will be fun to watch. He'll be promoted very soon.

QUOTE (docsox24 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) I'm not. It has nothing to do with his bad starts. I just think his value was very high last year and he may have been looked at as a better pitcher than he really is. I still think he will be decent, just not a top of the rotation guy. His ceiling was never a top of the rotation guy and if anyone thought that, they were crazy to begin with. He's a good #3 at best. But with out rotation (if Peavy, Floyd get their head out of their ass soon hopefully, though Floyd was good his last outing, despite the boxscore showing, cause of Putz) he will be an outstanding #5. Still love him even after one bad start and one mediocre one. People don't even know if its possibly something physical. In either case, he's striking out more guys per IP than he did last year, which is a positive.

QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) Pierre LF, Vizquel 2B, Rios CF, Konerko DH, Teahen 3B, Quentin RF, Kotsay 1B, Pierzynski C, Ramirez SS. I'll be the first to give fathom props for calling the Vizquel to #2 hole yesterday. (he also had Kotsay in today, but batting 9th instead of 7th) Teahen 5th?!?! HALLELUJAH!! AJ 8th?! Ozzie must be reading my post recently.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) Because it's a stupid, juvenile marketing effort that no one outside of Chicago homers will give a damn about? You think the players get amped up fighting for a worthless statue invented circa 2010? That's some great tradition. Well Beckham loves it personally. I would expect anyone IN Chicago (what we have to deal with for a long time and I'm not talking about people who used to live here and haven't been in like 5-10+ years) to actually "get it." Now I "get it".. I just don't like it.

Dear Ozzie, Please bat A.J. lower than 5th.. even lower than 7th. Thanks, Ace. QUOTE (SHIPPS @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) So many details left out of this gamethread but because its heads I will be alright and not make a fuss about this horrible thread. Haha, if we lose again, I'll step up and create one. Peavy cost me a loss, so if he wins today.. Heads who made this horrid, uncreative thread, gets more props in my eyes.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 27, 2010 -> 05:39 PM) Yes, the more power you have the more acceptable your K-Rate is going to be. When the ball leaves the park, it still counts as a hit, so a guy hitting 40 HR can still put together a reasonable set of overall numbers with those sort of K-rates and won't be guaranteed to hit .220. However...34% is high even for a 40 HR hitter. Over a 600 at bat season that's >200 K's. You have learned well grasshopper..

Which ex-Sox Player Would You Want Back for 2010 Team?
SoxAce replied to jasonxctf's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 12:55 AM) It's not like we can bring up Morel yet....you can argue that spot would take away valuable playing time and experience from CJ Retherford, but maybe the additional revenues derived from Thomas and Crede being back on the team would be worth it. CJ is a future utility guy anyways, but I won't jump the gun on a guy hitting .216 in AAA early on just yet. -
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 01:41 AM) Forget AAA. He should've been in the majors from day 1. He's that good. Look around the NL. Mike Pelfrey, Livan Hernandez, Carlos Silva, Brad Penny. It's ridiculous. I'd say a minimum performance expectation from him would be that of what Lincecum did his rookie year. I was talking about hypothetically speaking. There no way he should be in AA right now, and the Nats are really babying him and his arm. (5 IP minimum 70-80 pitches or so) At least give him some scrub AAA to AAAA hitters he can face before-hand or like you said.. just promote the guy. I know the Nats have a great record (and I only say great cause 11-10 is outstanding for that franchise) but this guy can help them now, even in only 5 innings. Now from day 1... not sure. As studly as the kid is, you need to get some failure in first before you succeed. Not even the great pitchers now started from day 1 after they were drafted 1st overall. (I thought Price was gonna be the closest, but the Rays took it easy with him) It's bad enough that I think the Nats are babying him so much. Hopefully by the 6th, 7th, etc.. innings, Stras won't be the kind that implodes. But AAA, he should be. Then again.. I thought the Reds were foolish to have Leake skip the minors and he isn't doing that bad (though still very early, teams will get scouting reports on him) so maybe it's a new era in that department.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 01:07 AM) Strasburg continues to dazzle. 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 6 K. Even had an RBI single (the only run of the game). They really need to do something about this service time crap. This guy has no business in AA. At least promote him. I agree. He's not nearly as Raw as Chapman and that guy is in AAA. Stras should be in AAA.
