  1. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) Well, would you say Dye's on his 3 year organizational board? He has 1 year left on his deal, with an option for 2010, and I doubt he'd stick around after that. You have to remember, the overall package for Swisher was what a lot of people thought was "weak" (but let's wait til Marquez learns a cutter before we pass judgement). Maybe the Sox's financial issues are so bad, that they have to dump Dye's contract, because other teams won't trade for Konerko or Thome. Hence, they may take a little less in prospects than what is considered fair I guess (or at least KW targets guys who aren't as highly rated as what he thinks). I don't think so, we've already shedded a lot of payroll. Also KW said we are good shape with payroll, and are in no dire need to trade Dye. He even said he wants his guys looking for possible fits that make us better from a prospect standpoint, but also with veteran FA's.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Considering KW's MO is "under the radar", Dye's availability and rumored destinations have been anything but. KW said he considered JD a friend and respects him greatly, I just wonder why he'd have him twisting like that. Its kind of strange. Maybe they are talking about it, and we're the one's in the dark?
  3. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:36 AM) You're thinking the guy from the Cardinals, this is a totally different player. Got ya - thanks
  4. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:33 AM) dude on WSI says rumor says that encarnacion is in on the deal but we may have to pay half JDs salary...take that FWIW...which is probably very little Isn't that guy done? I think his eye injury ended his playing days forever...
  5. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:30 AM) If the Sox can afford it, I can live with it though I'd rather the Sox move Quentin back to his natural position of RF in hopes that his defense improves from last year. Quentin would no doubt, they wouldn't stick Abreu there over him.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) A rival GM revealed weeks ago the White Sox were shopping every decent-sized contract they had (and maybe he wasn’t exaggerating that much), and so far Kenny Williams has traded away Nick Swisher and Javier Vazquez, or almost $17 million off 2009 alone. from yahoosports.com That sounds like an exaggeration, I surely doubt MB or AJ were shopped. We don't even have a backup catcher, let alone someone to start everyday besides AJ. Sounds farfetched, even coming from "a rival GM."
  7. Let's see how that would look potentially: Furcal SS Rameriz CF Quentin RF Thome DH Konerko 1B AJ C Fields 3rd Dayan LF Getz 2nd Or if Getz could somehow emerge as a solid 2 hole hitter, that would create some flexibility as well.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) The thing is, in Kenny’s mind the team doesn’t have those holes. He seems to more than satisfied with the pool of Richard, Poreda, Marquez, Carrasco, Broadway, Egbert, and Van Benschoten for the 4 and 5 spots. He also seems to think that, Owens, Getz and Lillibridge will me more than enough depth for the leadoff spot. Frankly, I don’t blame him occasionally you have to throw a couple guys against the wall and see who sticks. I don't believe KW is ever more than satisfied... Especially with the team as it stands. Maybe he isn't able to do anything else, but he's not satisfied.
  9. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) What other MI would they want from us? We have a glut of failed prospects (lilli, Nix) and a average at best spect (Getz). If we want another team's star MI, the discussions on their side IMO begin and end with Alexei. Thats what I would ask for if I was the O's. Roberts is a better all around player than Alexei, but Alexei has upside. Classic spect-for-star deal. You would ship off our starting SS, making a 1 million a year for the next three years, for one year of BR? That's not a classic spect-for-star deal... One, Alexi proved himself last year that he can play in the MLB at a high level, and two, that would be just dumb.
  10. I noticed the title says for Fields and Armstrong, but I don't think it is including Fields based on what was said.
  11. I'd like for the Sox to pony up to get Sheets. Risky? Sure, but nice upside. That would really make the rotation look like a strength again.
  12. Maybe the Sox go after Pat Burrell? Taveras/Lillibridge CF Rameriz SS Quentin RF Thome DH PK 1B Burrell LF AJ C Fields 3B Getz 2nd Lot of right handers though, but I think Burrell would be a good addition. MB Floyd Danks Bailey Marquez
  13. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 03:58 AM) I so wish Flowers was a great CATCHING prospect and not just a 'catcher' that can hit. Anyone in the know think he will actually ever catch in the bigs or is he a 1st baseman type in waiting? He is actually said to be a good catcher in the respect that he calls a good game, blocks balls in the dirt well, and offers a big target to pitchers, but his draw back is his arm. He tails the ball a lot, and I guess has trouble throwing out runners. Could be a big deal at the MLB level for sure. I was just reading though that he is open to this trade, and mentioned partly is because there is a DH in the AL. He seemed open to Dhing, if it means being in the majors. Good sign as far as I'm concerned.
  14. QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) The myth of Scott Podsednik is going to kill this team. In 2005, Pods had a nice year and was a nice player in his role, but too many people credit him for winning us that world series. With that said, If you're looking to recapture that 2005 Podsednik spirit, you won't get it from Taveras. His career numbers are below those thresholds. You're going to get a really fast guy making a ton of outs at the top of your lineup. I also assume that the proponents of acquiring Taveras and giving him 650 ABs are willing to write last year off as a fluke, and no, no I am not. This guys a good 4th outfielder to have if you give up nothing to get him. Keep looking for an everyday guy. Wonder if we receive a veteran leadoff hitter by other means, and then Taveras as a CF 9 hole hitter? If his bat was to replace Uribe, I have to feel it is a significant upgrade, especially with his speed.
  15. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) I think Poreda would do better as our 5th starter and we move Richard to the pen. It just seems like Rirchard would be a nasty lefty set up man. Especially if we DO in fact trade Jenks and Thorton replaces him. Maybe Richard would be better off, but if Poreda still needs work on his secondary pitches, then starting could be a roller coaster ride. I'm fine with him in the pen.
  16. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 03:23 AM) Even so, how likely is it that DET will be willing to trade within the division? Oh, totally not saying that will happen. I thought we were in fantasy mode for a second.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) Consider that bridge burnt. There was a lot of really bad blood there. Winning cures all - even in this case
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 03:56 AM) Here's why I don't. Cmon - we've all been there... Lol - jk
  19. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Oct 21, 2008 -> 12:17 AM) Off the top of my head, this is what I want mark buehrle John Danks Gavin Floyd Brett Myers Clayton Richard I like the Myers idea I think
  20. 4 lefties in the rotation? Seems like a major gamble, especially with two being Poreda and Richard.
  21. Anyone see us making a run on Lowe? I can see KW picking up another starter this offseason.
  22. QUOTE (Brian @ Oct 15, 2008 -> 03:16 AM) Peavy just signed a 4 year deal last year, didn't he? Ya, 4 year 52 mil
  23. Alright, this obviously won't happen, but what about a Poreda, Fields, and Javy for Peavy and Kouzmanoff. Logic is the Pads get two young cheap talented major league (or at least close) players, and replace Peavy for at least a year with a guy that will replace his innings and K's, if nothing else, while still shedding payroll. Sox still have a problem with the 5th starter, but no question upgrade the team, and still do so long term. Probably would have to add another body in that mix to make them even think about it.
  24. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 5, 2008 -> 04:06 AM) Well, Beltre and Mora would be more logical, since they're familiar with the AL already...and Blake. Beltre is going to be option #1 for every team out there, and I'm not convinced the Mariners have decided to part with him unless they can get an outstanding package in return. Actually, I think they would rather get rid of Ichiro, it's just that they can't do it because of their fanbase. Kouzmanoff and Atkins are wild cards. Fill CF with Ichiro then, and I'd be okay with Uribe/Fields at third, with Rameriz moving to SS, and a solid second baseman.
  25. I bet Ozzie liked Anderson pounding Mabry's ribs.
