  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 22, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) Tonight's game is a perfect example of why I feel the closer's role is highly overrated in today's game. Clayton Richard, 116 pitches, 6 baserunners over 8 innings. When you are cruising like that, the extra pitches won't take a toll on your body. This 100 pitch thing and 120 maximum idea is ridiculous. There's absolutely NO science behind pitch count limits...ZERO. The pitch count has been passed off as science for a number of years now, but in reality it means nothing. But...because Richard was approaching 120, and it was a "save situation" ('cause remember, it's not about actually winning, it's about padding a closer's stats) we take Richard out of a game he is completely dominating. What a bunch of crap! Every offense in the league would have been begging for the starter to be removed from that game. When an offense is struggling, they search for ANYTHING to mix things up. Bringing in another pitcher is just the ticket for their revival. It happens all the time. Think about this: If Richard had been left in the game for the ninth inning and blew the lead, who would have been under the gun? of course Ozzie would have because he went against the grain of closing! But guess who's locker they are in front of right now? Jenks... asking "why didn't you do your job?" Welcome to pass the buck 101, otherwise known as baseball today. Passing the buck? Is he calling out Ozzie? What a dick head.
  2. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 03:13 AM) 33% Tigers 33% White Sox 33% Twins Not too hard to figure out. Right, exactly what I was thinking... Nothing gained by over complicating it.
  3. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 01:41 AM) It's become a recurring theme around here to bring up the idea of resigning players who were once successful for our ballclub. He's gone and never coming back. Nor do I want him back; regardless of how he pitched in AAA. If he cant make Texas' bullpen or starting rotation (while not terrible, they're middle of the pack in both and could certaintly use him), what could would he do here? If we're thinking of him even as a POSSIBLE 5th starter that's just an indictment on our minor league system. He's behind Richard, Poreda, Colon, Torres (and I haven't even seen him pitch); forgot about it. Even if none of those starters succeed, I'd just keep Poreda out to work out his problems. Richard is stinking the place up, and I don't think Poreda is ready to start. He's a decent option, and certainly low risk. If you don't like him, that's cool, but that doesn't mean he couldn't perform well in that role. It'd be nice to have a fresh veteran arm down the stretch.
  4. Orlando Hernandez-S- Rangers Jul. 17 - 6:04 pm et Rangers released RHP Orlando Hernandez. Hernandez was stuck in Triple-A Oklahoma City's bullpen, and was told Thursday that he didn't fit into the Rangers' immediate plans. He had a 2.45 ERA, opponents were hitting .121 off him and he had struck out 12 batters in eight appearances, so perhaps the veteran will get a call from another club. I might like him in the 5th spot down the stretch
  5. If Freddy Garcia gets healthy and his velocity comes back, you almost have to consider him as well for 2010.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 12:14 PM) Lillibridge is supposed to be a plus defender, but he's been brutal this spring defensively as well. Maybe he's taking his poor ABs with him on to the field, but if he makes the team and KW ever talks about a spring training competition for jobs, I hope some reporter calls BS on it to his face. How,if there is some sort of competition for a roster space, can you play like Lillibridge has this spring and make the team? Because no one is competing for the backup SS spot. It's his by default.
  7. I think they'll take Poreda - KW likes giving possible future starters a taste of the bigs in the pen before officially making them starters.
  8. I'm not so sure we should be in a hurry to move Rameriz from SS. Between the two, I don't think we can say Beckham would fare better there.
  9. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) I'll go on the record and say that Getz would be a better leadoff man then both Wise and Owens. Getz actually makes a ton of sense. Doesn't K much, has a great eye and can walk, has above average speed, and is a gap-to-gap line drive hitter. That's a lot of pressure for a young kid, but if Ozzie went that direction, and it resulted in Anderson in CF, I'd be for it. Still wouldn't make Edmonds a better option for us... Wise right now is earning the spot, so I have no problem breaking camp if his results continue. It's not like you couldn't adjust if he starts to struggle.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 02:54 PM) Edmonds could be a nice stopgap. Wise isn't a lead off hitter and really Owens isn't either. Edmonds isn't the CF he used to be, but he is still better defensively than Wise, and throws much better than Owens, and is an upgrade of the Ken Griffey Jr. statue they set up in CF the second half of 2008. As far as rejecting coming to the White Sox before, he said he was given just a little window to make up his mind and didn't want to rush so he had to say no. I really think if KW was going to sign him, he would have been signed by now. He supposedly is high maintenence. KW and I agree the best of the 3 is BA, but either Ozzie doesn't agree or he believes the CF must be a guy batting first. Ozzie understands the need for it to be that way unless you leadoff with Getz. What other choice does he have for a leadoff man?
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 12:53 AM) As long as they don't neglect the pitching I don't see KW ignoring pitching
  12. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Mar 14, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) same guy reject trade last yr to sox and then we got swisher Plus it wouldn't make sense. Wise has an upper hand because he's hitting well but also because he can leadoff potentially. Otherwise why not just plug in Anderson? Edmonds isn't needed...
  13. QUOTE (forrestg @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) Wilson Betemit is listed as a first baseman. True first baseman
  14. we don't have a backup first baseman, so it actually makes sense.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 10:10 AM) Joe Crede gave the White Sox 1 crucial month in the 2005 season. You know who else did? Frank Thomas. He got b****ed out, and his agent isn't even Boras! What's a brother gotta do. Not complain about everything... And I do like FT
  16. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 07:10 AM) IMO the only one who sounds stupid in that quote is KW. Not about Crede, but that defense of Colon is hilarious. If Garland outperforms a healthy Colon, it will only be attributed to his transfer to the NL.
  17. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 01:13 AM) I think Gardy has something against Rock Paper Scissors. I'm so offended. Although I agree it isn't the best way to determine this, it isn't as if they missed the playoffs to a coin flip. They lost home field advantage, and proceeded to lose the game. They had their chance still...
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 01:08 AM) Marti would definitely be in the mix for the 4th/5th starter's spot. Even though he won't blow anyone away, he definitely would be the favorite I think if the White Sox were to sign him as of today. As far as Gomez, don't think we'd have much interest in him at all...the other kid Torres had earlier, CF Fernando Perez (who worked out with Viciedo at his famous tryout in the DR) would be a much more interesting sign than Gomez, fwiw, because he's still only 20. In this case, it may be better that he's more seasoned with Jordan Danks being groomed for the spot.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 03:34 AM) If we go by this 33% paycut theory, Garland would be at $8 million next season, Orlando Cabrera at $6,666.667 and Bobby Abreu at $10.7 million. We'll have to wait and see how close that is. Besides Garland, would anyone take either Cabrera or Abreu at those salaries for 2009? Sounds like bargain deals, but it's hard to say, no one really knows what kind of budget we have. I believe KW said we're at the upper limits, despite our cost cutting moves.
  20. Currently, this is how I see the lineup. Lillibridge/Owens CF Rameriz SS Quentin LF Thome DH Dye RF Konerko 1B AJ C Fields 3rd Getz 2nd I'm just guessing, but I can see Lillibridge winning some time in CF and taking on lefties.
  21. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) if asked to pick right now, i wonder who the prognosticators would pick to win the AL CENTRAL in '09. My guess is that it will be CLE again. Sizemore and company, Lee, now Wood. A healthy Hafner (maybe). Well, division wagers aren't posted yet, but for the 09 AL pennant Sox, Indians, and Tigers are tied at +1100, with the Twins at a very slight favor at +1000.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) I don't think Miles is a target or should be, but if these other guys are more versatile, it would be an upset. Miles played 2b,ss,3b,lf,rf,cf and p last season. What, no catcher or first base mit? Ha
  23. Scott Proctor-R- Dodgers Dec. 12 - 9:31 pm et Dodgers non-tendered RHP Scott Proctor. Proctor finally broke down last season and underwent elbow surgery after the season. He's expected to be ready for spring training, but it looks like he'll finally escape Joe Torre's grasp. Yhency Brazoban-R- Dodgers Dec. 12 - 9:30 pm et Dodgers non-tendered RHP Yhency Brazoban. Brazoban, once looked at as a potential closer, has battled shoulder problems since returning from Tommy John surgery in 2007 and now looks like a long shot to have much of a career as a reliever. Then again, it could help that the lack of a paycheck will force him to cut back on junk food. Yes and yes if they could be signed to cheap/minor league deals. Potential depth, or nothing. I'm good with rolling the dice with these two.
