  1. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Feb 5, 2009 -> 07:10 AM) IMO the only one who sounds stupid in that quote is KW. Not about Crede, but that defense of Colon is hilarious. If Garland outperforms a healthy Colon, it will only be attributed to his transfer to the NL.
  2. QUOTE (longshot7 @ Jan 27, 2009 -> 01:13 AM) I think Gardy has something against Rock Paper Scissors. I'm so offended. Although I agree it isn't the best way to determine this, it isn't as if they missed the playoffs to a coin flip. They lost home field advantage, and proceeded to lose the game. They had their chance still...
  3. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 12, 2009 -> 01:08 AM) Marti would definitely be in the mix for the 4th/5th starter's spot. Even though he won't blow anyone away, he definitely would be the favorite I think if the White Sox were to sign him as of today. As far as Gomez, don't think we'd have much interest in him at all...the other kid Torres had earlier, CF Fernando Perez (who worked out with Viciedo at his famous tryout in the DR) would be a much more interesting sign than Gomez, fwiw, because he's still only 20. In this case, it may be better that he's more seasoned with Jordan Danks being groomed for the spot.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 19, 2008 -> 03:34 AM) If we go by this 33% paycut theory, Garland would be at $8 million next season, Orlando Cabrera at $6,666.667 and Bobby Abreu at $10.7 million. We'll have to wait and see how close that is. Besides Garland, would anyone take either Cabrera or Abreu at those salaries for 2009? Sounds like bargain deals, but it's hard to say, no one really knows what kind of budget we have. I believe KW said we're at the upper limits, despite our cost cutting moves.
  5. Currently, this is how I see the lineup. Lillibridge/Owens CF Rameriz SS Quentin LF Thome DH Dye RF Konerko 1B AJ C Fields 3rd Getz 2nd I'm just guessing, but I can see Lillibridge winning some time in CF and taking on lefties.
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 12, 2008 -> 10:31 PM) if asked to pick right now, i wonder who the prognosticators would pick to win the AL CENTRAL in '09. My guess is that it will be CLE again. Sizemore and company, Lee, now Wood. A healthy Hafner (maybe). Well, division wagers aren't posted yet, but for the 09 AL pennant Sox, Indians, and Tigers are tied at +1100, with the Twins at a very slight favor at +1000.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) I don't think Miles is a target or should be, but if these other guys are more versatile, it would be an upset. Miles played 2b,ss,3b,lf,rf,cf and p last season. What, no catcher or first base mit? Ha
  8. Scott Proctor-R- Dodgers Dec. 12 - 9:31 pm et Dodgers non-tendered RHP Scott Proctor. Proctor finally broke down last season and underwent elbow surgery after the season. He's expected to be ready for spring training, but it looks like he'll finally escape Joe Torre's grasp. Yhency Brazoban-R- Dodgers Dec. 12 - 9:30 pm et Dodgers non-tendered RHP Yhency Brazoban. Brazoban, once looked at as a potential closer, has battled shoulder problems since returning from Tommy John surgery in 2007 and now looks like a long shot to have much of a career as a reliever. Then again, it could help that the lack of a paycheck will force him to cut back on junk food. Yes and yes if they could be signed to cheap/minor league deals. Potential depth, or nothing. I'm good with rolling the dice with these two.
  9. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 10:36 PM) Well, would you say Dye's on his 3 year organizational board? He has 1 year left on his deal, with an option for 2010, and I doubt he'd stick around after that. You have to remember, the overall package for Swisher was what a lot of people thought was "weak" (but let's wait til Marquez learns a cutter before we pass judgement). Maybe the Sox's financial issues are so bad, that they have to dump Dye's contract, because other teams won't trade for Konerko or Thome. Hence, they may take a little less in prospects than what is considered fair I guess (or at least KW targets guys who aren't as highly rated as what he thinks). I don't think so, we've already shedded a lot of payroll. Also KW said we are good shape with payroll, and are in no dire need to trade Dye. He even said he wants his guys looking for possible fits that make us better from a prospect standpoint, but also with veteran FA's.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 12:10 PM) Considering KW's MO is "under the radar", Dye's availability and rumored destinations have been anything but. KW said he considered JD a friend and respects him greatly, I just wonder why he'd have him twisting like that. Its kind of strange. Maybe they are talking about it, and we're the one's in the dark?
  11. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:36 AM) You're thinking the guy from the Cardinals, this is a totally different player. Got ya - thanks
  12. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:33 AM) dude on WSI says rumor says that encarnacion is in on the deal but we may have to pay half JDs salary...take that FWIW...which is probably very little Isn't that guy done? I think his eye injury ended his playing days forever...
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 03:30 AM) If the Sox can afford it, I can live with it though I'd rather the Sox move Quentin back to his natural position of RF in hopes that his defense improves from last year. Quentin would no doubt, they wouldn't stick Abreu there over him.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 12:38 PM) A rival GM revealed weeks ago the White Sox were shopping every decent-sized contract they had (and maybe he wasn’t exaggerating that much), and so far Kenny Williams has traded away Nick Swisher and Javier Vazquez, or almost $17 million off 2009 alone. from yahoosports.com That sounds like an exaggeration, I surely doubt MB or AJ were shopped. We don't even have a backup catcher, let alone someone to start everyday besides AJ. Sounds farfetched, even coming from "a rival GM."
  15. Let's see how that would look potentially: Furcal SS Rameriz CF Quentin RF Thome DH Konerko 1B AJ C Fields 3rd Dayan LF Getz 2nd Or if Getz could somehow emerge as a solid 2 hole hitter, that would create some flexibility as well.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) The thing is, in Kenny’s mind the team doesn’t have those holes. He seems to more than satisfied with the pool of Richard, Poreda, Marquez, Carrasco, Broadway, Egbert, and Van Benschoten for the 4 and 5 spots. He also seems to think that, Owens, Getz and Lillibridge will me more than enough depth for the leadoff spot. Frankly, I don’t blame him occasionally you have to throw a couple guys against the wall and see who sticks. I don't believe KW is ever more than satisfied... Especially with the team as it stands. Maybe he isn't able to do anything else, but he's not satisfied.
  17. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 09:07 PM) What other MI would they want from us? We have a glut of failed prospects (lilli, Nix) and a average at best spect (Getz). If we want another team's star MI, the discussions on their side IMO begin and end with Alexei. Thats what I would ask for if I was the O's. Roberts is a better all around player than Alexei, but Alexei has upside. Classic spect-for-star deal. You would ship off our starting SS, making a 1 million a year for the next three years, for one year of BR? That's not a classic spect-for-star deal... One, Alexi proved himself last year that he can play in the MLB at a high level, and two, that would be just dumb.
  18. I noticed the title says for Fields and Armstrong, but I don't think it is including Fields based on what was said.
  19. I'd like for the Sox to pony up to get Sheets. Risky? Sure, but nice upside. That would really make the rotation look like a strength again.
  20. Maybe the Sox go after Pat Burrell? Taveras/Lillibridge CF Rameriz SS Quentin RF Thome DH PK 1B Burrell LF AJ C Fields 3B Getz 2nd Lot of right handers though, but I think Burrell would be a good addition. MB Floyd Danks Bailey Marquez
  21. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 03:58 AM) I so wish Flowers was a great CATCHING prospect and not just a 'catcher' that can hit. Anyone in the know think he will actually ever catch in the bigs or is he a 1st baseman type in waiting? He is actually said to be a good catcher in the respect that he calls a good game, blocks balls in the dirt well, and offers a big target to pitchers, but his draw back is his arm. He tails the ball a lot, and I guess has trouble throwing out runners. Could be a big deal at the MLB level for sure. I was just reading though that he is open to this trade, and mentioned partly is because there is a DH in the AL. He seemed open to Dhing, if it means being in the majors. Good sign as far as I'm concerned.
  22. QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:58 PM) The myth of Scott Podsednik is going to kill this team. In 2005, Pods had a nice year and was a nice player in his role, but too many people credit him for winning us that world series. With that said, If you're looking to recapture that 2005 Podsednik spirit, you won't get it from Taveras. His career numbers are below those thresholds. You're going to get a really fast guy making a ton of outs at the top of your lineup. I also assume that the proponents of acquiring Taveras and giving him 650 ABs are willing to write last year off as a fluke, and no, no I am not. This guys a good 4th outfielder to have if you give up nothing to get him. Keep looking for an everyday guy. Wonder if we receive a veteran leadoff hitter by other means, and then Taveras as a CF 9 hole hitter? If his bat was to replace Uribe, I have to feel it is a significant upgrade, especially with his speed.
  23. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 11, 2008 -> 12:04 PM) I think Poreda would do better as our 5th starter and we move Richard to the pen. It just seems like Rirchard would be a nasty lefty set up man. Especially if we DO in fact trade Jenks and Thorton replaces him. Maybe Richard would be better off, but if Poreda still needs work on his secondary pitches, then starting could be a roller coaster ride. I'm fine with him in the pen.
  24. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 03:23 AM) Even so, how likely is it that DET will be willing to trade within the division? Oh, totally not saying that will happen. I thought we were in fantasy mode for a second.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 28, 2008 -> 06:01 PM) Consider that bridge burnt. There was a lot of really bad blood there. Winning cures all - even in this case
